There's some misunderstanding, in certain places.
Haru,
>>5 was sound in context. In another context, your response would have made sense, but that's why I felt the need to respond. We've devolved to a point where the bandwagon mentality is to pick from a word bank of generic responses to typical situations - things like "read the FAQ before posting," "you're a dumbshit," "being polite doesn't work." They've been said enough times, albeit in situations that called for them, that people are starting to latch onto them without thinking of their meaning. This is one of those cases where it made no sense.
However,
>>11, do understand some background. The hostility comes from a point in time when there really was just an absurd amount of bullshit on the boards, and what you're seeing is either the older members not calming down from that period, or newer members blindly adopting their demeanor from those days as an example. It was a pretty shitty time when the site was still relatively young, so everyone was still lenient and nice about everything when it started happening - and that was their downfall, for a while.
We've gotten past the point where the normal amount of hostility isn't even necessary in all cases anymore, though, but the mindset got so rampant it's hard to get people to understand that properly. It's case-by-case, not at all a standard.
