(Movement from Main)

I used to have a radio station on the internet, and i was thinking it would be a good way for members to come together.

We could have members upload music, and sub groups upload podcast of things they have talked about. Also, we could do commercials for those who might stumble across the station and would like to join up. What do you guys think?

(I have a place to host a website and run the show, btw.i might need some help with the hosting for the songs however )

Well if you can make it where we can embed it on sites, and be able to have people able to connect to it and talk on it, I'll be more than willing to help you out. Been trying to make a Radio for us, for a while, now.

Some things need to be taken into account when hosting an internet radio station. Some of them I know because my dad owns and runs his own. http://www.asfradio.com

You need to account for royalties, server space, bandwidth, donations, backup servers, ads, possible forum for station discussion only, cost of tracks, retrieving album information, proper equipment for announcements etc., and more that I'm sure I've missed.

If you have every one of those sorted out, then I say go for it. But paying those royalties is a bitch, and you're not likely to raise enough donation money from the BBS members, or from ads that none of us will click.

What about the idea of a Public Radio station? As opposed to a private one. Think of it like NPR or one of the numerous student radio stations in campuses across the nation. You have more regulations on what you can play but AFAICT you don't have to pay royalties to artists. It would also allow for more talk-radio themed stuff. Just throwing it out there; I'm not quite sure what the FCC's requirements are.

btw, i have never paid royalties for the music i play.

You don't really have to pay anything, if you do it smart. By only playing music from upcoming artists. Not those famous artists. Like have them agree to let you play their music, for them having free advertisement.

Also, the FCC does not regulate internet radio at all, because of the simple fact no one owns the internet. It's a large network made of computers the connect each other.

I am willing to help, but I need to know if YOU'RE able to set a radio up that allows people to connect into it and talk with others on it, and it plays on am embedded player on a site. But no video spot shows up. Only a player for audio. Because it allows it to load up quicker.

We can use the forums I made for my business, because for now, the actual business will take time to make. If you want to use them, and if Umbra wishes to moderate them.

It resembles the BBS in the sense anyone can post without joining. Only ones who join (register) will be those who mod it.

Then a Talk show hour for just random conversations, if we can figure out how to allow multiple mics to be connected.

Well if we can get a server made on Teamspeak, we can do this. I used to do it.

Make it where mic plays back what your sound drives (speakers, whatever) hear. While playing the Radio. This way, people can use it, play their music from their computer, without having to actually log into vychune's account.

Well the it currently is, you can login without using my account on l2mr, you just need winamp, or an app that supports shoutcast. Hosting a talk show is a different matter if you want host from around the globe to join or calling in

The TeamSpeak Channel was approved by the service I registered with so the radio is ready for testing by potential hosts.

Radio doesn't Auto play, now.

Dude, you have to have patience. No one is going to magically do it without knowing anything about it. We need to find our own hosts, first, before asking if people would like to.

Hey I'm not trying to interrupt. But I read this thread awhile ago and it sparked up an idea. I wanted to start up a internet radio dedicated to the underground population of my city. But I'm having trouble starting it up. I'm using caster.fm. But I'm having trouble installing the Lame encoder. I don't know how to install it.. Can anyone doing the technical stuff help?

Well... I'm only using two types of software. Im using Winamp and Mixxx. And I'm using the website called Caster.fm.

You would need the Winamp Media Player, unless you are on linux then you want IDJC. There is a link above on this thread for a tutorial. I'm gonna find some hosting as soon as i get some money to have songs to play while noone is doing a show so we can have something playing all day...unless you guys wanna donate....since it's royalty free it wont be much to donate for.

So I'm not sure where this is at in the process of creation and organization and such, but I love the idea of it. If you need some manpower for whatever just let me know (on this thread for now I guess.) I should be able to work in some time.

I have found a site that allows you to freely host your own Radio, Embed it, plus it allows people to "click" on "Call" and allows them to call the DJ and be on the Radio with them. All from the Embedded player or the site it's hosted on.

well, i think it is a great idea, plus it would be a great way to stay connected so people can tell us what's happening with the dollars at any certain point.

The sub categories can be different genre of music (ex: Country, hip-hop/rap, rock, gospel, ex; ex;) all run by different volunteers for different times (we have 2-3 different time in the US) so we can shift around
The only problem is getting people on board with helping and the consistency of the programing, I guess... But if we can work it out in English then the Dollars from other countries can sett up a radio for their respected language (or listen to the English one, their choice)

Google KryKey. It's a free Radio Hosting site that does it from the site. You can have Guest DJ and embed the radio player, and it has a button that says 'call' which allows listeners to call in from a push of button on the radio player.

Personally I hope it's more presenters than music. I can listen to whatever music I want on youtube whenever I want so an internet radio that plays music is kind of pointless but it'd be quite nice to see people of the Dollars community presenting shows, maybe even discussing some of the recent threads and what points have been brought up on them.

Loving this idea. Thought that maybe this could be incorporated with some of the things already associated with the Dollars, such as not only playing music, but also adding a way to cheer people up, using a radio station to help out depressed folks or anyone in a slump

Why don't you start it up with the hosts you've got? Even if it can only air for a few hours during the day, it's obviously better than waiting. And when it finally starts working there will surely be more people signing up. More than there are now anyway.

How often is the radio going to be in use? I have the links that were posted above open in another tab, but nothing's going on there.
I wouldn't be entirely comfortable talking on it or anything, but I would love to listen in often enough.
It'd be great if you posted the times that the radio will be on air, just be sure to say the time zone too.

i would find it ok to talk on it with some friends or somethig or have people call in every week

Is this discussion done? Because an internet radio Dollars would be nice. Although, it'll be more moderated and maintained if the admins could do it, but I think it'll be a big hassle, and I wouldn't want to trouble our admins... T.T It would be nice to have like 'New Zealand Mondays' or 'Philippine Tuesdays' when people from those said countries can play their songs of choice, for everyone to hear and appreciate.

I think you're not understanding what "Undead" really is. The radio thing isn't even for the BBS. It's part of a big, possibly multi-million dollar project that I"m creating and running.

Well, the OP wasn't specifically dedicated to your station Thiamor. It's just that up until now only one station ever had people willing to work on it. If we consider that the OP was really reaching out to anyone willing to create a station, I'd think that Blacky's station would technically fit here. On the other hand, the actual contents of this thread have been entirely devoted to one station, and it's gotten relatively long. So I do believe that for the sake of your own station gaining any attention, FoolishBlacky, that you should dedicate a thread to your station on the Tech board. Preferably when you've got more sorted out, but hey it's your station.
