Do you think there's any way to implement a "To Bottom" button at the top of the page that will take you to the bottom of a thread (after hitting "view entire thread"), and one at the bottom that will take you back to the top?

...is it really necessary? There's a reason you have "Home" and "End" buttons.

2) Why is using the scroll bar a problem? Just click and drag it to the bottom instead of using the mouse wheel, it's faster.

It's not a problem until I have to use my PS3. When I browse on my PS3 and have to hit "view entire thread" to get caught up and there's over 400 posts, it actually takes a really long time to scroll down.

And I know I'm not the only person who has used a PS3 to visit this site, which is the only reason I'm suggesting it. I wouldn't bother if I thought it was just me.

Actually a good idea. When I'm on my iPod it's impractical to scroll down a long thread. The obvious solution is to just get on a computer, but for the few times I don't have access to one, it's a pain.

A minor inconvenience at most, but still a good suggestion.

Coding wise it wouldn't be that difficult.

Off the top of my head, it can be as simple as adding an anchor tag to the title of the thread and the reply box. That would serve the purpose of skipping around just fine.

It would probably make mobile browsing - as mentioned before in this thread - much easier on longer threads.

As long as it has a use, I don't see a problem with it. I wasn't thinking of browsing the internet on gaming and texting devices, SOOOOOO yeah. If it helps, then why not? Like Navi said, it should be easy to code, and as Misu stated, it doesn't really have a downside.

It doesn't really have to scroll with you. At the bottom, you can go to the top. At the top, you can go to the bottom. And meanwhile, you can always click the ">>##" that are referred to in just about every thread to get inbetween if you don't want to scroll to the middle.

Since both to the right and left are just big spaces, void of anything, I think a scrolling button wouldn't be terrible as long as it was kept a a reasonable size.

Do you think it would be possible to /just/ have it on the mobile, or even if it's possible to turn it off, like the bars at the bottom of pages that you can click the vv button on to close? I'm not totally sure what kind of coding a BBS uses, honestly :O

For phones, it could be coded so that if you type in a command, like $Jump >>35 jumps right to post 35. I am not sure how a site can be coded to work that way, but it'd be interesting if a top/bottom thing isn't added.

In fact, I don't think you really need to have a To the Bottom button. Just use the #postnumber thing to get to the end of the thread, it's not too much of a hassle anyways.

I.E, the FAQ has 1070 posts as of now. Instead of:

http://dollars-bbs.org/main/res/1329603701.html#1070 and BAM! You're at the bottom.

No it isn't, and that's stupid. If the goal is to go top/bottom, then if you're using a device where it's hilariously easy to alter the URL - like a computer - then just using the home/end buttons fix the issue.

The problem here is, as I understand it, for mobile and ps3 browsers. They lack the ability to properly scroll and or follow those links, so anchored top/bottom things are wanted. If you're on a Ps3 or a mobile utility, then odds are you can't be arsed to continuously go back to the url and screw around with the Ps3's awkward text input or your phone's tiny keyboard.

I for one definitely think this is a good idea. I would probably use it a lot... I access this site from a bunch of different devices, often without the use of a keyboard. So yeah, it could be very useful. Just as long as it doesn't get in the way.

Another reason why this would be awesome for mobile. When using subback you cant exactly get to the bottom of whatever thread you choose unless you scroll or edit the address manually.

"Top" buttons on mobile devices are usually there - in iPods and iPhones, it's done by tapping the top where the address bar is, for example. Bottom buttons, not so much. Though, I can't say I've seen any site with a "bottom" button before.

Usually what I do for longer threads is I type in # and then a post number after the URL to scroll to that post. Although, that's not really a solution moreso than it is a workaround. On computers, of course, there's the Home and End buttons.

Actually it might kind of work to have (implemented in every post of a topic, at the bottom, right hand corner) a "First" button, and a "Last" button. So then no matter how far you scroll, you'll always see it at the end of each post, thus can always get back to the first or last post of a topic. (Top/Bottom, if you will.)

For people on laptops, they have the home and end buttons on their keyboard.

Hm I don't know what other phone browser does this, but Opera Mini has a top/bottom button appear if you start scrolling.

In any case, I don't see any disadvantages to implementing this. The only thing was some people didn't seem to like the idea of having it scroll with the page. That isn't necessary for this idea, but I personally think it would be okay if it wasn't very large or intrusive.
