Duplicates and Wrong Sections (14)

There should be a way to remove threads that are duplicates r in the wrong section. It would make it easier for someone to sort through the threads to see if the idea has come around before since there would be less threads on the board.

There is, its called deleteing it before anyone posts on it. The only other way is asking the bossman to do it, which is a waste of time.

How is it a waste of time? It makes for better organization. It also doesn't help when people post on it saying it's a duplicate or wrong section.

>>3 I've been meaning to address this, but I got lazy/forgot. Usually, when I post on threads telling people it's a duplicate, I make sure to back up my claim, and post the original thread.

Others however just say it's a duplicate and then leave, which just make them look like a straight up ass, that does it to be an ass, not an ass that tries to keep shit organized.

But yeah, there's no other way of removing threads that are duplicate/on the wrong board short of just telling Reltair, our admin, to delete the shit. Or just have the mods sage it to make sure it doesn't come back up again. We, the normal members, can't really do anything.

And by waste of time, I'm pretty sure Sleepology meant that it'd be annoying for our admin to constantly go onto whatever thing he needs to get on to delete threads, every second of every day. We have duplicate threads, literally, every day, so it'd be tiresome from the standpoint of the admin, to delete the threads.

You also have to understand, he's like 20 something, 30 something. He has a job outside of this site. And a life. And other things that needs to be tended, so this site is basically second priority. And yeah, that's about it.

>>3 Well actually, it does help. By pointing out a duplicate or misplaced thread, you:

1. Prevent other people (well, those who read at least) from posting on the duplicate thread.
2. Teach them to not do it again in the future.
3. Set a precedent that duplicates are wrong.

It also acts as a flag for mods. Sometimes, they don't realize threads are duplicates unless people point it out. They have better things to do than memorize the entire thread archives for each board.
Well, I don't know for sure (considering I don't know the mods), but I'm assuming they don't.

Reasonable doubt? I don't know anymore, I'm going to nap. :I

>>4 That is why I brought this up. There needs to be a new system to get it down for organization's sake. We shouldn't need to get the admin every time there is a duplicate, but we should also not have them stay up. The same thing goes with the threads that are on the wrong board or the troll threads that says, "soandso is a (censored)." Not only would it help with organization, it's just plain annoying to see them.

I feel like I see more bumps for both duplicate threads and organisation purposes combined than real forum posts. Some sort of vote down system might be more effective; something like if more unique IPs down vote a thread that people posting on it, it would be saged or just bumped off the front page. There is a twofold problem with this.
1) It's open to abuse. A person with a non-static IP could downvote threads repeatedly to push them off the board. Abuse of this system would be harder to track that posting abuse since there would be a bunch of downvotes per thread to check.
2) It would probably require a large modification to the BBS system. The admin probably already has a pretty full plate of stuff and it seems like there was a recent re-organisation of boards.

>>6 Well, threads that get saged eventually get deleted as part of a weekly(?) cycle. Saging a thread basically "marks it" for deletion, and prevents it from being bumped until that happens. The admin runs a script to just delete all the "marked" threads.

And this is why he got moderators - so that they could very easily mark these threads when they're deemed irrelevant or duplicated. Moderators also have the ability to close threads, as I understand it, but this doesn't mark it for deletion since threads that hit 1337 posts are closed, but remain.

So technically, the admin DOESN'T need to be brought in every time there's a duplicate thread - but the moderators do. Still a hassle that can easily be avoided if people would take a minute to figure things out, but not as big of a hassle as you probably think.

i think it would be nice to be able to move threads that people put in the wrong section to the section they belong so that it wont start and argument with the people who think theyr better than everybody and think they can chew anybody they want out cause theyv been a member longer. it would be so much easier to just move it in my opinion.

Moon Warriors are the shit.. It's the truth.

Also only the creator of the site, Reltair, can do this.

Otherwise we just have to tell them to shut up and go die for re-posting something for the 30 billionth time.
