What brought this up?

So, in the past, there have been small issues as to where to post about conventions. I've seen threads for cons created in the Countries Board, but the only threads that should be made in that board should be pertaining to Countries/States/Provinces. I've also seen con threads pop up in Random, Suggestions and possibly even on Main or in Missions. The only board I have not seen these threads permasaged or closed in is Random.

So where and how should we post about conventions?
Should info about conventions ONLY be posted as a reply within an existing State's thread in Countries?
Should there be ONLY ONE thread for ALL conventions?
Should conventions be address ONE BY ONE?
Should a Conventions Board be made or would it be a ghost town?
Should convention threads be made BASED ON THE STATE or YEAR?
Should convention threads be posted in RANDOM or COUNTRIES or ELSEWHERE?
So on and so on and so on and so on...

I have my own personal opinions about this, some of which can be seen by going to the thread which brought this up, linked at the top, but first I would like everyone's input and for us to begin discussing where and how to post about conventions.

Personally, I think we should work a little harder at coming up with a secure, cheap calendar for this site so that we can post things like conventions. Perhaps create a group calendar for Apple devices using the default calendar app? But that limits the amount of people that can actually use it. Maybe create a cross-device app that will work similarly? Depends on if we have any programmers dedicated enough to actually make the app...

Could we possibly add a Calendar to put Convention/Meeting stuff as part of the BBS? Like in the top part where the About/Help/Links and stuff are? (Forgive me for the lack of a technical term :/ )Although, how would that be moderated? Just an idea.

As far as convention threads, I don't see why they couldn't just be posted in the individual state threads. Although some newer members lacking common sense may not be able to find them that way, anyway. I don't think there should be just one thread, unless it's an index of some sort.

I suppose I don't mind Conventions being posted on Random, since it seems to be the only place Con threads don't really die. Although my mind may change on that if Random fills up with Con threads. A Conventions Board could be made, and I could see it being as active or slightly more than the Sports Board. I don't think it would be a ghost town, however it certainly wouldn't be the most active board, at least that's my opinion.

~There should be a convention board where each state/country/province has their own convention thread. Having all conventions for every place would be too much. I doubt that the convention board would be a ghost town. If u think about it, we've all watched Drrr!!, which means we like Anime, and Anime lovers love conventions and would definitely post/comment in a convention board.~

Making a calender would probs be the best.
would make the missions board neater as well, actual stuff could be done in certain areas cuz people would be informed.

I don't view "Conventions" as a topic large enough to have its own board. Even if it had it's own thread and people posted there regularly, things would move slowly. I also don't recommend putting it in their country thread, since I know a lot of people who fly out or drive to places nearby to attend these conventions.

Although this is not a FANSITE, it is sorta based off an anime. Sure not all of us like anime, and of the people that do, not all of THEM go to conventions, but it wouldn't be THAT lonely. Just the 2011 Florida cons thread was quite popular, no matter how much I wished otherwise, it never died, and when it did another one sprung up quickly following it, and that's just Florida.....

I don't think this topic has enough input yet, so I'm gonna bump with my view on it.

I think it would be a lot more organized with having a separate convention board. I've never really gone to a convention but now that i have some extra money, I'd like to start. I mean it's not like there is not any other boards that are kind of dead with little to no posts or threads. However, if we do, in time, get the calender made and up and running I think that would be the best way to make this whole thing work. Anyway, that's just my thought on the topic.

Perhaps not a "conventions" board, but a meetup board in general. It seems to be a rather popular topic that keeps getting brought up, and barely anyone reads the countries board anymore because it's such a clusterfuck of "I live here too herpderp"

Unless we try to retool the countries board (maybe rename it to Locations or something?) and make it more usable for such a thing. Right now, it only serves as a rollcall.

That's a pretty damned good idea. How about we have another sub-heading under main for conventions?

I also agree that a Meetup board will probably end up bringing in alot of random short-lived posts.... However, these are posts that we already have popping up anyway, in more annoying places, so instead of pretending they don't exists or trying to make them go away, it's at least better to have a general place to put them.

Personally, I'd wanna organize it something like this:
Locations
>USA
>>Meetups/Conventions
>Canada
>>Meetups/Conventions
>Mexico
>>Meetups/Conventions
>(Add Whatever Countries you need)
>>Meetups/Conventions

So, like, the Locations board would be it's own board, with Sub-Boards devoted to specific countries where people could post to find/get to know others in their area, and ANOTHER sub-board for things specifically Convention or Meetup related.

I also wish we could organize Missions this way.... Separate them by country so it's easier to find things you can participate in, and also have one area for stuff that's 'online' or worldwide.
