Well, the chat rooms aren't ours, so its content really isn't up to us.

If you want to take it upon yourself to get people to stop, since it's been a problem since the onset of the chatrooms, both before and after our personal chatrooms went down, then that's your decision. Just know that your only backup will consist of those who agree with you, and you technically have no right to tell people off for being obscene.

All my respect if you do manage to do something about it though. Shit's out of hand.

Hmmmm... Maybe we can create a new chat room? That way we can have Moderators, and we can remove the giant "DRRR" thing in front so people don't assume that this is a fansite. I'll see if I can find that one thread I saw earlier about creating a new chat room and post it here. But until then, I suggest people start to put down any sexting in a chat room.

People are picky, some of them only want the Durarara type chat, IE: The ones with the icons, the pretty bubbles, etc. Otherwise, if they weren't picky, our IRC would have been used more than the chat. Derp.

We also have a thread on Main about how to use an IRC, on the browser and download it as a program or something. So, just putting that out there.

Well I'm TRYING to create our own chat just for shits and giggles, and it should have a moderating function. Where you type in a password when you want to delete posts or kick.

I want to create a thing that shows (a live counter) that shows the IP's that are on and if you click kick you can type in their IP and it redirects them, to, say Google. Same function for a banning system.

Or you could make it so the posts from x amount of time back get removed when someone gets kicked or banned

I really don't think that you can do anything about the sexting other than not go in to the room.

The room I have on the chat has rules and if there is sexting on it I have them leave the room and make their own room if they don't listen to me then I kick/ban them and I even have 3 other ppl helping me in force the rules on there.

Actually MOST of us, for a fact, don't give a fuck.
One reason being none of us have control over it, but the other reason being we aren't affiliated with it. Thus it isn't our problem what happens on the chats. If they want to get it fixed by being a better place, they need to take it to the actual creator of that chat, and not us.

I don't care now that it's public and isn't affiliated with us, but before there were people interested in fixing the chats, and people will be interested again when/if we get our own private chat again.

So we should try to create our own chat room for the Dollars. Maybe we should find experienced coders on here to help? Like find or create a development team or something.... idk.

I suppose a rough draft of the steps we need to take is:

1.) Find a few Dollars that are experienced coders and create a dev team. Or at least find a dude that can do it right.

2.) Find a private place (such as the DRRR chat we have now) for the dev team/knowledgeable dude to discuss ideas and shit.

3.) Start creating the chat room.

4.) Alpha test it privately (vA).

5.) Beta test it publicly (vB).

6.) After making the appropriate tweaks release the final version (v1.0).

Like I said idk, I'm just trying to think of stuff we could do to help.

I don't feel like making a new chat is necessary. It will have the same problems as our previous chat had - that being, server space issues as way too many people try to access it at one time, and the eventual buildup of clutter as a result. The fix would be temporary, at best, unless someone is really willing to buy a whole server just for this. You're getting ahead of yourself with the planning there.

Let's take a step back and address your original point.

You want the unsavory activities in the chatroom to stop. They came about as a result of several people who advocate it, being more vocal than those who did not, or opposed it. The answer here is clear. You all need to voice your opinions more clearly.

In large numbers, it might dissuade them from using the public chatrooms for that sort of thing if most people disapprove. In fact, they may come to realize something that should have been blatantly obvious from the get-go:

Public chatrooms are not for private fantasizations in the first place.

Best case scenario is they will find ways to privately contact each other rather than walk into a room expecting to join someone else's circlejerk like it's a norm.

It would be entirely silly to have someone try to host it on a home computer. That sort of thing is for small servers only - it would never be able to handle the strain of a hundred users accessing it at once, all day.

Point being, your concern here was moderation in the chatrooms. My point is that it is still possible, on a user level - through like-minded opinions being voiced. I wouldn't go to the trouble of making a whole new chatroom just for this site.

Again, you're getting ahead of yourself before thinking about whether or not all this is necessary. Focus on the problem at hand before looking into how servers work and hosting options, as well as the fact that we haven't even gotten someone to mess with the chatroom code itself yet.

I always thought it was the traffic in general - the number of people accessing it being too much of a strain on the server itself. If it's that, then the fact we're getting a new chatroom programmed means nothing if we can't host it anywhere without the same problems anyway.

There's always the method of trying and seeing. But without the use of Reltair's server. herp derp.

I will offer up MY site for the creation of this, but it has to be done my way or else it won't be done.

Instead of using the coding the Dollar sites use, I suggest recreating how it works using PHP, and HTML. It will need more, Javascript here and there, but this way it will work on any computer, phone, and/ or a PS3.

If you can get a group together, I will offer up my site, and load a simple chat we can use on my site, to discuss the needed information to create this.

Basically, one highly possible way to do this is with what I think is called Flat File. Which is a tedious, but a bit easier way to make a web page into a database without the need to host it on a computer.

Can have HTML position Scripts, background images loading up behind each post, and a text over lay over the images to recreate the text bubbles. Plus text limits to keep people from posting and having it stretch the page, plus I know how to place it for name inputs, Avatar inputs and text bubble inputs.

Also if you add a code to have a page scroller, both down page and left and right, when the texts get so far down it automatically makes the page bigger, so we can view EVERY post.


Again, if you get the people, I've got the site. This way it'll allow the people on without effecting the BBS.

Also my friend may be able to get a domain for it, because his site's host allows for unlimited domains for only 1 set monthly payment, when he pays for a package.

Well, it is someone else's chatroom so... it's up to them. But in a way, we already do. The host has the option to kick or ban a person from their created chatroom. It's up to them whether they will or not though. Hopefully we get more that do, i'm really tired of seeing a nice civil chat turned into something wild.

Mods in the chat rooms seem necessary to me. I've only been here for a few hours, but the time I've spent in the chat rooms it's almost all sex or semi-sex shit. It just doesn't appeal to me and, frankly, I think the chats should be more for civil conversations.

If it was our own chat, I would definitely agree with this. But frankly, it's really not entirely up to us. The BBS is just one portion of the many users on the site, and it's not exactly designed for our purposes either. It's just, as the site says, a DRRR!!-like-chatroom. It's inevitably going to be a common occurrence, unless they all just get up and move to a different chat site. But even then, more people will eventually find the site, and more people will eventually create more sexting rooms.

I mean, if you want to try, I have nothing against it. It's just unless it's going on in the chatroom you're admin in, you can't really tell them to get up and go.

BUT I hate to be a hater on the straight judgy people but (like again sorry) I absolutely hate it when people judge others for liking the same gender, or changing their genders. My aunt is dating a girl and she just trangendered to a guy so I don't judge. I'm also bisexual so I myself can't judge most people. I have this binder that i got the nonjudgy people to sign as an act against bullying for samegender love.
