So guys, I bring you all a small dilemma or whatever. The renaming of the Films board. Well, first of all, it was supposed to be for fitting both movies and TV Shows, but yet I've seen barely any on it, and I just saw a new thread about TV shows on Random, so I thought "Do people think Films is just for movies?"

So guys, if we did end up renaming it, what would it be? Keep in mind, the pattern of board names is one word. And if renaming it is a problem, then should we end up making a new board?

After many wiki searches, I got one word. "Program". Come up with a better one because now that I found one, I got lazy.

Also, bit of small trivia, Films board has 156 threads and it's been here since... December 18th. Yeah, I'd say either the name probably misled people making them think "Oh, only for movies? No TV shows? Aw wellz" or some shit like that, or people really are weeaboos... Which is pretty sad.

I've been thinking this for a while... I can't ever think of a name besides something like... TV & Films... I cant think of one word for it though. Maybe... Media? But still, that includes things like Music videos, and music in general. I don't think there is any term for it that is more specific..

I think Cinematography would work. But if it seems too long, then why not just Cinematic. I searched it, and found its definition as "Of or relating to motion pictures," so I think it'll fit.
And we can't make it to just cinema 'cause it means, "A movie theater./The production of movies as an art or industry."
So... uh... Cinematic?

Cinema seems like it still implies movies. Cinema is another word for theater, and that's what I tend to associate it with.

I think television works best, honestly - movies are watched on TV as well as normal length TV shows, so it's more encompassing of that. Besides, if the only option is "Television," movies would naturally end up there anyway.

How about entertainment?

Entertainment will have a damn lot of subboards then, Music is entertainment, Sports are entertaining, Anime and Manga is sure entertaining, Literature too. It's too vague, needs to be specific enough to fit in just movies and TV shows.

Then how about Flix?

What's wrong with simply "Film/TV"?

We want it to fit with the theme of board naming, that being a one word name for each board. Film/TV would be two words.

I'll continue to search for an appropriate word, but I'm afraid there may not be a word in the English language that encompasses film and television alone. I'm a film student, and I've only ever seen the concept you're trying to convey written as "Film and Television".

I'll keep looking, but compromise may be the only option (i.e., splitting it into two boards or breaking the naming scheme).

Hm, well, we might as well break up the two boards, TV show threads don't get made often or at all in the Films board, but I really don't want to add yet another board to our site unless it's absolutely needed and we're all out of options and such. So keep on trying guys!

It's used for Films. And by putting in a TV board, it'd be only for live action type stuff, anime(which by the way is being discussed to be changed to Animation to encompass all animated things, western and eastern) is drawn stuff. So yeah.

For films, what about just "Movies" if it's only going to encompass, well... movies? If it's to have movies AND live action television, then howabout... liveaction, just written as one word?

It's good to make it so that live action things can have their place and animation its place. It makes a lot more sense than just keeping anime separate and putting everything else together.

I think it should be renamed to 'Visual Entertainment'. Thus it creates broader room, and then people wouldn't get so confused.

Alright, so far the suggestions have been as such:

-Split the board into two, so Television and Movies
-LiveAction
-Visual Entertainment

Now, we settled for one rule with board naming, that it has to be a one word name. So... Visual Entertainment wouldn't work. And if that sounds lame, another thing would be that Animation would fall under Visual Entertainment, making it that we'd have to make Animation a sub board, which seems a bit unnecessary.

Any other ideas guys?

Why exactly does it have to be 1 word? Settled? Cool. But why does it even have to matter? My suggestion, fits perfectly. But because it's 2 words, oh "Fuck it, Let's throw it out the window" because we all think it should be 1 word? Yeah. Seems all cool with me >.>

Also the Pattern is 1 word. But really that shouldn't even matter. You can change the size of text so easy enough, that it wouldn't at all make the boarders around it stretch out at all.

Oh, don't take my text too seriously, man. It may come off a bit abruptly and 'loud' at people and everything, but just get used to it. It's not me being mean. It's just who I am. Also professionalism over looks, is how I see it. The name of each board, if it fits, should be what truly counts. Not the over-all pattern of it.

I'm up for LiveAction. I think that was the best suggestion so far. It can be used as one word, and that way it encompasses every sort of show/movie/whatever that isn't animated.

I repeat. I think it should be renamed LiveAction and should only encompass anything that isn't animated. Animated movies, shorts, and series would continue to go on the Animation board. Live action series, shorts, and movies would go on the LiveAction board.

I think this would fix a lot of discrepencies between the two boards and would make it more clear-cut regarding what does and doesn't go there.

So. I tried to see what it would look like. Even though it's two words, I honestly don't think it looks that out-of-place. But if you guys are still determined to use one word and one word only, then I suggest you buy the most up to date thesaurus and get to work :T

Could use the word "Inanimation" since it is a word meaning the "lacking" of animation.

Inanimation just doesn't sound right :/ It would mean not moving at all, which is just... no.

Inanimation doesn't mean what we want it to mean. Maybe non-animation? But calling it non-something just makes it sound like a derivative category, which it isn't.

I'm putting my vote in for Live Action. It's sometimes spelled with a hyphen. Does that make it count as one word?
