So this is just a random idea that came to mind, but what do you guys think of a language board? We've got a lot of international members here and a language board could be a place for people to speak their native tongue. It could also be used to help people learn another language. Or if a language board is too much work, someone could make a thread where people just converse in different languages.

Just a thought. Tell me what you think.

I think it's a good idea. If people want help with a language or just to take a break from English they could use that board instead.

Another idea would be to have a translator worked into the site somehow. Possibly powered by google?

I agree with that idea :D, not only me, but im sure that through this, many people will have an increase in skill through a particular language of their choice.

Interesting suggestion - you want a board specifically tailored to speaking in languages other than english?

I'm not sure how much attention that board would warrant, though. It sounds like something individual threads could accomplish, or posting in the countries board.

As for directly translating things on the site, as insertnamehere said, that could be accomplished through google translate or other similar things. I don't think it would do much good anyway, because most people don't bother to spell right or use grammar. Translators don't pick up on those.

I'd also like the idea. After graduating my English got quite bad and I'm learning Japanese so that would be really cool.

Although this sounds like a nice idea, I feel like very few would regularly go to a board specifically for languages. If someone wants to learn a new language or just be around others who speak their own language (that isn't English), I think the Countries Board or even Random would be appropriate enough for that.

Besides, trying to learn a completely new language using boards and threads would only work out if 1) you have enough people who can speak and write in that language with proper grammar, sentence structure, etc., 2) someone actually bothers to teach it properly, and 3) if the person learning actually keeps at it and regularly practices with it (out loud/conversationally).

And, as previously mentioned, using Chrome would already translate things for you.
