I'm very interested in joining my school's Track team, but I don't know what to expect.

I was hoping someone who has had experience with school track teams could shed some much needed light on my situation.

For example: what kind of training and conditioning should I be doing before the start of track in January?

And how much of it should I do?

I would say, just run every day, maybe around your area, practice stretching. I don't really know, but I love not knowing, keeps me on my toes! Seriously, if you really want to join, just know that anything that's worth doing comes with a price. So just jump in and adapt, that's what I do.^_^

Run on a daily basis, and stretch, depending on if you want to be a sprinter or a distance runner your workout should be a little different. If you wanna sprint, practice running 8 sets pf 400m sprints daily with small walks between each sprint, and also do tons of core training, a good runner has a strong core, also for sprinting, remember to lift weights to tone your legs, do not overdo the weights if you are planning on distance running, and if your going to do distance, run 4-6 miles daily plus 30 minutes of core training. Eat right too, proper snacking brings you far, take an apple before you workout, and drink lots of water.

Wow thanks. Both very helpful. I was planning to do sprinting and other shorter distance events. So thank you for going into detail on those.
