Modern Baseball is an American Pop punk / Indie rock band from Philadelphia, pennsylvania. The group originated in 2011 and currently have four members, Brendan Lukens, Jake Ewald, Sean Huber and Ian farmer. And their labels are 'Run For Cover' and 'Lame-o'. Brendan and Jake were high school friends from Brunswick, Maryland who began as an acoustic duo before relocating to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to attend college there. They soon met their drummer Sean and their Bassist Ian. One miraculous evening the guys decided to form a band together and named it after an old book titled 'Modern Baseball Techniques' that they found the same day that belonged to Jakes dad. They started off playing house shows near Drexel University in the basement scene alongside some bands like 'The Menzingers'. Sean and Ian had joined the group while they were in the middle of making their first album at Drexel Studios. This album was titled 'Sports' and was released in 2012. They began to revive more attention and the group left Drexel in order to pursue music on a more regular basis. Two years later the group released their second full length album 'You're Gonna Miss It All' on Run For Cover Records'. The album surprisingly reached #97 on The Billboard 200. They have gone on a few tours their first with 'The Wonder Years'. They are soon releasing their third full length album 'Holy Ghost' this year on May 13th.
Modern Baseball is one of those bands, one of those bands with the loose vocals and the cheesy lyrics and also the never ending genre arguments. And hence most Modern Baseball fans speculate that if you like, let's say The Front Bottoms or Blink 182. Then there's a good chance you might like these guys. Hell, There's probably a good chance you've seen one of their tracks around The Front Bottoms. They have some really solid instrumentals and some pretty good lyrics too. I find these guys to be a bit under appreciated and I'd just like to see if more people can like them. You can either love it or hate it, Cringe or Enjoy fam. I'd say a good place to start off with them would be from their second album 'You're Gonna Miss It All' and the tracks, 'Rock Bottom', 'Old Gospel Choir' and 'Apartment'. 'The Weekend' is also a good track to listen to forgetting if that even was from the second Album.
God this is late, couldn't seem to get my hands on a phone. And even though no ones taken an interest to this I may as well update this.
So Modern Baseball released their new album a few days ago. 'Holy Ghost' is Finally out. And I gotta say it took a turn I didn't expect it to turn to. It's still Modern Baseball but it feels smoother and more emo, something along those lines. So far from what I've heard it's pretty darn good in my ideals. If you didn't like them at first, Try 'Just Another Face' or 'Everyday' Not sure if you'll actually change your opinion but I say it's worth giving a shot.
