Primus' song "John the Fisherman" was the first rock song I ever heard, and it blew my mind. If it wasn't for Les Claypool, I wouldn't be into rock/metal today.

"Kingdom for a Heart" - Sonata Arctica. Not the first song of theirs I'd ever heard, that was "Full Moon," but captured my sentiments at the time very well. However, as I have decayed (progressed?) into true villainy, it no longer applies to me.

Bob Dylan, Johnny cash, Eric Clapton, pink Floyd, Ted nugent, all of them were good and my thought are better than today's rock. Evan though Eric Clapton was blues. Slash and Myles are good. I would Liston to that over rap any day

Alithia, another local Melbourne band.

S'been called everything awesome - experimental rock, space rock, post-rock, prog rock, art rock - but the band likes to refer to themselves as "astral space-core." I think of them as a post-metal band, but there's definitely a big space rock influence in there.

It blew my mind the first time I heard it partly because based on the dude who told me about them I thought they were a death metal band and so was totally unexpected, but mostly because this is genuinely some of the coolest music I've ever heard. It pretty much covers all my essential musical bases - space-y, prog-y, epic, heavy and metal - and more.
