Specific artist/band/song Request (86)

1 Name: Lewdacris !dl1gC1QXbA : 2014-01-21 14:03 ID:8nSfRNI2 [Del]

Due to the music board having multiple music requests such as this that are very seldom used, I'll just have to make another. Hopefully, everyone will start to use threads like these instead of making a new one.

This is a specific artist/band/song request thread where we put in filters and categories and then wait for suggestions that match our criteria. This thread can be an option in place of Google, say if one is looking for a song that mentions a theme or key words that aren't found specifically by a search engine.

So here's what I am looking for.
Okay, so I am looking for a band with young female vocals. And the band must be similar to the sound and style of this Japanese band called Soutaiseiriron (Theory of Relativity). Have searched everywhere in music sites, but couldn't dig anything up.

So if anyone knows any other band that sounds like this (but in English language please), speak up.

2 Name: Lewdacris !dl1gC1QXbA : 2014-01-23 02:16 ID:8nSfRNI2 [Del]

No one knows of anything like Soutaiseiriron? :/

3 Name: Neige !h45CN3bvL2 : 2014-01-23 06:03 ID:Yt7mWKg1 [Del]

I'm not 100% sure of the validity of the thread, actually. Admittedly we have a music recommendation thread, but this is kinda different. Is this a dupe?

And I can't seem to find the band on youtube, guy. A link would help.

Maybe, just maybe, I have weird tastes in music, so this is the most........normal ones. I'm sorry if it doesn't suit your taste.

5 Name: Lewdacris !dl1gC1QXbA : 2014-01-24 00:08 ID:8nSfRNI2 [Del]

>>3 I've looked around the threads, and I don't think there was a topic that said about the TC or others knowing what they want, but are unable to find what they want using search engines and what not. I'm certain this isn't a dupe.

"And I can't seem to find the band on youtube, guy. A link would help."

Really? :/ That's where I find them... Did you put in Soutaiseirion or Theory of Relativity?

Well, here are links.

>>4 I'm aware of Vocaloid songs and I am aware that the instrumentals do sound the same, but here's what I am looking for (the criteria).

1) Female vocals
2) Style and sound is similar to Soutaiseiriron
3) English English English

I don't want to put a genre/label to Soutaiseiroron, because it's a broad definition to their style. It's like trying to find something similar to Pink Floyd. You just can't.

Aw c'mon fellas. :(
Can't anyone think of any songs/bands that match the criteria I've listed? That's such a letdown...

8 Name: Yatahaze !E/8OvwUzpY : 2014-01-26 20:19 ID:v0ByqS22 [Del]

"young female vocals"

Welp, I'm admittedly not much help there. Sorry, buddy. I took a listen to the first three links you provided, and the first thing that came to mind was some of Supercar's tracks, however, they are Japanese as well. Their stuff usually revolves around male/female vocal interplay, though if I recall, most of their songs more prominently feature the male vocals. Give a listen to "Silent Yaritori", which features said interplay and similar rhythms to the Soutaiseirion, and if you enjoy that, give a listen to the rest of their album Highvision.

Now for English-language bands, the two that come closest that I can think of in terms of the music (light sound, calm, poppy demeanor, on-point rhythms) are TTNG, whose latest album 13.0.0.0.0 might be up your alley, and A Great Big Pile of Leaves, who have a very deep bass vocalist but otherwise present the same type of mood I got from Soutaiseiriron.

Sorry I couldn't meet more of your specifications, but hopefully between those you can find something you'd like. Don't feel too bad about the little response you got; the music board doesn't get much useful traffic anyway.

I'd also be up for making this the new recommendation thread in general, or if someone would want to remake it, that'd be cool.

9 Name: Lewdacris !dl1gC1QXbA : 2014-01-26 22:19 ID:8nSfRNI2 [Del]

>>8 Gosh, this is exactly what I wanted! I can even overlook the first criteria not being fulfilled. Dude, you rock. Thanks a lot! XD

"I'd also be up for making this the new recommendation thread in general, or if someone would want to remake it, that'd be cool."

Sure go ahead if you think the format needs some adjusting. A thread like this is pretty neat to have around as a good backup plan for music searching.

10 Name: Lewdacris !dl1gC1QXbA : 2014-03-10 00:58 ID:8nSfRNI2 [Del]

Alright fellas. After listening on Pandora, I came across a song that I liked. However, I'd forgotten to give it a 'thumbs up,' and so the song won't play again because I haven't 'listed' it as one of my favorites. It's been over a year since I've listened to that song, so there is no hope for it being played on the station I was on (I even forgot the station).
I have forgotten the title, the lyrics, and the band that played the song; HOWEVER, I do know that---

1) The song has a woman's name in the title
2) It's an 'exotic' name-- most likely an Asian name
3) The song (IIRC) is about a waitress with a strange name, and the singer sings about her feeling strange and alienated because of her foreign conduct and name.
4) The song uses guitars, so I am slightly sure that the song is leaning towards some 'softish' rock genre.
5) The vocals MAY be around the emo-type. Maybe.

I have Googled queries such as "list of songs with a female's name on them" and other similar requests, but the lists are incomplete, and anything specific leads nothing useful.

If you have anything above the slightest clue on what I am looking for, speak up.

Hey now, bud. What you did just there - "samefagging" we call it - that's not cool. We can tell it's still you since your ID didn't change. Changing names to try and manipulate other members is not recommended, especially since it's so easy to tell when you do it and it makes you look desperate.

And you may be desperate, but in that case, just bump with your normal name and explain that to us. Samefagging is always a no-no.

And sorry, I've got nothing for your request there. Good luck though.

>>12 I know what 'samefagging' is, and I apologize that I made myself look that way. However, my excuse is that I cleared out the form information in Google Chrome and thus, the auto-type information of my name Lewdacris!dl1gC1QXbA was lost. I've written my password for my name somewhere, but believe I am unable to find it at the moment. So in the mean time, I'll be using the handle ASDFJ, just to clear any misunderstanding. But regardless, I apologize for not clarifying earlier.

What is your favorite band ?
Good Day!

I feel really dumb about the metal I listen to... so I've never told anyone (>.>)
But I really love Utsu-P, he's a producer of metal Vocaloid music(>~<) I feel like because it's Vocaloid it doesn't 'count' as metal, but I'm really interested on knowing what other people think of it? So here's a song from him:

I also know lots of other producers and songs so if anyone else likes it I can tell you~

Alrighty then, Imma give this a shot.

Greetings electronica fans. Lately, I've been obsessed with a track by Radiohead called Idioteque. I'd link it, but I'm on my phone and can't be fucked, so here:

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DNqv3nHyteM

Anyways, I'm kinda looking for a band or artist that creates music with a kind of electronic music with a similar kinda paranoid, neurotic vibe to it - instrumental or no, obviously I don't expect ot to sound just like Radiohead.

I've tried looking myself, and will continue to do do, but t'would seem that wikipedia's genre suggestions of "electronica" and "IDM" are very broad terms.

So. Anyone?

>>19 Yeah, that was me. XD

There's this band called The Postal Service that has some songs that have haunting vibe of Radiohead's Idioteque.

Another group is Massive Attack that has some songs similar to Idioteque especially in the paranoid department, but they have a mix of mellow in there too. The effect might be the same.

21 Name: Neige !h45CN3bvL2 : 2014-03-30 04:35 ID:KjHGM9rW [Del]

>>20 Hehe, thought so. And I'm sorry, I spent a good amount of tine searching, but I haven't been able to find much like what you've described.

I'm already well-acquainted with Massive Attack - Mezzanine is probably one of my all time favourite albums - and I've heard enough by The Postal Service to tell that, unless they have a few hidden gems in there (some examples'd be nice) they're not much for what I'm looking for.

Thanks though.

Basic drum set

I'll start an index of sorts on requests just in case anyone else is looking for some 'similar' songs. It's also helpful to keep a record of suggestions as well. Although tastes on music are different, it's worth taking a look. Sites like LastFM do provide similar artists for bands, but this index will extend that towards songs as well. Please add to the index if a suggestion is mentioned and please note which suggestions actually fulfilled the requests.

If anyone wants to make a 'cleaner' and more presentable index, then all means go for it.

Looking for...
-Music similar to the vocal style and syntax of the RWBY soundtrack.
-a post-rock feel
-a DnB feel
-or rather, something that combines DnB with Post-Rock, and the music must have vocals.
-The tempo must be fast like that of an adrenaline, and similar to that of RWBY's OST.

Anyone know of post rock bands with female-fronted vocals?
My Google journey has given me scarce results...

42 Name: Neige !h45CN3bvL2 : 2015-08-29 01:59 ID:cCmeA/uX [Del]

>>41 A lot of post-rock is instrumental, and the ones I can think of with vocals are mostly male. Here are some suggestions anyway.

Anathema, particularly their last 3 albums. There's one male and one female vocalist, but here's an example of a female-fronted vocal track. There aren't a lot of them, though

Sigur Ros is good too. Not female-fronted, but the singer's voice is so high-pitched that it can probably be mistaken for a woman's. Probably not too close to what I think you're looking for, but try it anyway.

There's also this song by We Lost the Sea, but the rest of their stuff sounds nothing like it.

You should check out My Bloody Valentine too. Might be a little closer to what you're looking for. Here's an album.

I thought as much with female vocal post-rock bands...

Yeah, I found Sigur Ros with Google. Now that I think about it, I'm reminded of Radiohead, so I might as well add the band under II on the "Index."

The song by We Lost the Sea sounds to be where I am getting at though, thank you.

What got me searching hopelessly into female vocal post-rock was because of this track from some anime I'm currently watching-- apparently, this anime band is labeled under post-rock (which sort of fits).

So is there is anything similar to this track in question:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AuYTRaVvFiY
- those guitar riffs
- female vocals (not "engrish")

Your suggestions did give me some good ideas, but the track/link is there to make it clear on what I'm looking for at the moment.

unfortunately, Lewdacriz, I don't know any post-rock with female vox off the top of my head. You may have seen this already, but if not, let reddit be your guide. To add one more band with falsetto male vox that still may be musically up your alley, checked out Withyouathome. They're frustratingly under the radar and really fucking good.

though keep in mind Zhiend seems more like calm alternative or dream pop mixed with a slight tinge of post-rock to me, mostly in the soundscape-y nature of the guitars. Having one asset of post-rock does not make a post-rock band, and I partially forgive the show for this because it also mocks itself in discussing the ambiguity of describing such a genre. If you want more music like Zheind, look a bit into the other genres mentioned above too.

Heya Yata,

Thanks for the help once again. I did skim over the dream-pop and probably shoe gaze mix of things when looking into post-rock.

And yes, it's a shame that those reddit pages don't seem to be active anymore, but the other topics might mention things I've missed.

I agree that Zheind doesn't perfectly fit the post-rock bill... That makes it maybe a bit harder to find yet easier to find something reminiscent of.

This thread is used for finding similar songs/bands of artists you've listened to or to find certain songs/bands within your specific query-- asking for songs to get into them is something is such a broad question, and ultimately, it's better to search for things yourself.

As for J-Pop, you can look for that by searching up anime and MMD as well.

Okay guys, I didn't have Sound Hound on me atm I heard the song, but along the chorus (or after) the lyrics goes something like this:
"I------- will be with yoouuuuu gi------rl~"

The singer, sounds like he's from Modern English or from The Smiths, but I'm not entirely sure. Please ID the song for me because Google ain't helping at all.

Note that I may have misheard the lyrics-- I've also heard this song multiple times before, but I haven't checked up on it. Might as well start now.

Interesting about Vanity Theft and Halestorm...
Oh man, and I haven't heard Flyleaf in a very long time--- I've forgotten that they changed lead singers.

And of course, Paramore. The most recent things I've heard from them was their new single and Zedd's song. I can see why you would make the comparison.

I'd say that Vanity Theft has the most marks for the criteria-- they're leaning on electronic instruments too, but the songs I've explored so far don't use that DnB beat.

Anyways, thanks, I'll add it to the index.

Yo.

After something a bit American Football-esque in feel. Generally mid-paced rock with an emphasis on clean, twinkly guitars and a laid back, kinda emo-ish vibe. Not really after full on math rock stuff, so don't recommend TTNG or anything. Mostly after something that's easy to relax to.

Vocals are optional, don't really care one way or another.

I'm not too familiar with English-speaking singers with husky voices, but Great Expectations by Gaslight Anthem seems to fit... >.>

That being said, there are pieces of guitar melodies in the song much like Chase, but it does not have the repeated staccato-like drumming of cymbals.

An artist that popped into my head when listening to Chase by Batta is a female Japanese singer named Nano (who is also very fluent in English). Her voice is husky, and she sounds like a boy in her powerful songs.

A couple of her rock songs are Born to Be and Magenta with the latter being completely in English IIRC. She worked with a VocaloidP named DevilishP for Magenta, and the style of rock the producer uses is basically what he is known for.

DevilishP's rock style fits Chase the best, but you should be able to find Nano's rock songs to also make a good match. Keep in mind that DevilishP uses Vocaloid (I'm a fan of his IA tracks) so Magenta might be the one of the few if not only songs that is sung by a human.

So check out Nano, DevilishP, and Gaslight Anthem's Great Expectations.

>>82 I particularly like the bands Oomph! and Saltatio Mortis. Oomph! is known for starting a new subgenere of industrial metal and wave music referred to as Neue Deutsche Härte, or sometimes referred to as Tanz Metal (Dance Metal). They are often credited as the first ones to make this genre, with Rammstein quickly following their lead and popularizing the genre. Other bands in this genre are Megaherz, Unheilig, and Eisbrecher. Saltatio Mortis is a newer band that started off playing medieval music, but eventually evolved into a medieval metal band.
