I have grown mostly ambivalent to the fact that most good bands/musicians don't already have threads here, and have grudgingly accepted this to some extent. But the fact that it took a good everyday-until-now for this thread to be created, tips the scale right in the direction of "Fuck You BBS." This thread needs to be made. And I am more than happy to do it.

Radiohead is a British rock band from Abingdom, Oxfordshire, formed in 1985 by constant members Thom Yorke (vocals), Jonny Greenwood (guitar), Colin Greenwood (bass), Ed O'Brien (guitar/backing vocals) and Phil Selway (drums).

Radiohead released their debut single "Creep" in 1992. The song was initially unsuccessful, but it became a worldwide hit several months after the release of their debut album, Pablo Honey (1993). Radiohead's popularity rose in the United Kingdom with the release of their second album, The Bends (1995). Radiohead's third album, OK Computer (1997), propelled them to greater international fame. Featuring an expansive sound and themes of modern alienation, OK Computer is often acclaimed as one of the landmark records of the 1990s.

And those are the absolute essentials that you needs to know about their history. Now about their music.

Radiohead is a highly experimental alternative rock band. The band at its core creates nice, atmospheric, somewhat depressing and eerie rock music, but what makes them different is that they often do this in innovative and interesting ways. For example, they might use an instrument that you've never heard of (Ondes Martenot), or play around with strange rhythms and shifting dynamics, and a lot of their most recent work is rather electronically tinged. All of their albums are unique in their own way (well, maybe not Pablo Honey), with them experimenting with something different on each one.

Also, their music also often encompasses themes and ideas which come from the introspective and moody mind of lead singer Thom Yorke. Pretty interesting stuff if you're into lyrics or poetry.

Kid A (2000)

I always tend to put off listening to huge renowned acts with solid discographies simply because there's so much to listen to and starting is just hard. Like writing an essay, ya know?

There is still no excuse for me to not have delved into a Radiohead album yet, but that's the closest I can come to one.

Someday.

...someday.

Great thread, buddy.

>>2 Dude, do yourself a huuuuuge favour and listen to OK Computer right now. It will blow your mind, and in regards to getting into them, it'll be smooth sailing from there in.

Actually, allow me to help you out.

Oh, and I know exactly what you mean about that, and honestly, I love that feeling. It's depressing in a weird way, but I treasure that sense of uncertainty and unfamiliarity when delving into the new (well, to me) music of a band that I'm certain I'm going to love, because I know it's a feeling that I'll never be able to relive.

I'm sure you know what I mean.

>>5 I'm reminded once again that you have a great taste in music. Kid A is amazing. There is no album like it, believe me, I've looked.

If you''re gonna download that, you should probably download Amnesiac as well, they were recorded around the same time. It's not as good but it's got the same experimental sound to it. It's really more of an outtake album, but there's some awesome stuff on it.
