I swear to god if there's already a thread about this that I missed I'll flip shit.
EDM stands for Electronic Dance Music - a wide range of genres generally associated with DJs and nightclubs which has been moving into the 'mainstream' for a while now. What songs and genres actually classify as EDM is controversial, but here's how I see it.
EDM can be any form of electronic music, usually produced using synthesizers or computer technology and sometimes featuring instruments or vocals. As such, there is a great amount of variation between artists and their styles.
Listening to deadmau5's somewhat slow song Fn Pig is a very different experience when compared to songs like SKisM's bass-heavy Experts, but they are both EDM in the way they were produced.
As I mentioned earlier, nightclubs and EDM go hand in hand - after all, nightclubs are where electronica began and can still be found to this day. Although admittedly the type of EDM played in clubs now is different to what they played in 1990s.
Anyway, I'd like to hear if any other Dollars are into this amazing music. How did you first learn about it, what are your favorite songs or artists, who would you recommend? Ever been to a concert or met one of the musicians? Or, do you not like EDM? Why not? I'd like to hear what everyone else here has to say.

I love you, you are now my favorite person by all time. I tell people how the correct general term for electronic music is EDM all the time because everyone just calls it dubstep or techno even though both of those are subgenres of EDM. Anyway! I love it all so much. Some of my favorite artists include: K-391, F-777, Madeon, Mutrix, Mitis. Those are my main artists. I am into Hardstyle which is another genre underneath EDM. Thats what people used to shuffle to before Party Rock (I do shuffle btw). My sister is actually good friends with Mutrix and I've met him before. He's up and coming but his stuff is really good. I recommend to you everyone i named and also the youtube channel KNSNCT (kayceenicole). She posts EDM songs and thats how a found a lot of songs and a couple of really good artists. Ever since i was little i knew i liked electronic music but i never knew where to find it until a friend showed me Skrillex (older skrillex). Thats pretty much my deal! Like i said, you are now like my favorite person in the world.

>>2 I love you too, let's be friends.
So many people at my school think techno and EDM are the same and it makes me want to stab something. Techno has a very different sound compared to house or electropop and I'm not sure why it's so hard to understand. Also, the artists you listed are all great (the only one I didn't recognize right away was Mutrix, but I actually recognized a few songs so it's all good) and I'm about to check out that channel you suggested. I remember seeing kids shuffling when Party Rock came out and thinking it was new and just laughed at them; that shit's been around for years. I used to listen to a lot of hardstyle, though unfortunately I don't see as much of it anymore.
*cries because someone responded to my thread I feel like a mother whose child just won a Nobel Prize*

>>3 xD We will be best friends.
I tend to want to punch people more than stab them, but thats just me. I'm more of a blunt weapons kind of guy. Everytime I get into a conversation about music with someone they always end up hereing my little rant on how techno and dubstep are genres of EDM. One of my friends likes to mess with me about it though >.> I just made a new email for Dollars that are in the Cinci Ohio area cause thats where I live and id like to meet some dollars in my area. Its cincidollars@yahoo.com if you want to e-mail me on there so this thread isn't dominated by us xD not that I particularly mind. Im not sure if you alreayd know, but F-777 just came out with a new megamix called system split. Im listening to it right now and Im loving it! It really sucks for me out here cause where i live most people just listen to country or rap and im not really a fan of either one so i dont have anyone to music talk with. Also what are some of your favorite artists and songs? And what type of EDM would you say you generally listen to?
*cries because yo actually replied to my post, and in a timely manner*

>>5 Yeah, my friends tease me about it too sometimes. And it doesn't really matter if we clutter up this thread, since we're basically the only two who ever seem to look at it.
I hadn't seen it, no! I'll have to listen to it later, I'm working right now sadly.
Ah, favourite artists and songs? I have to say one of my all-time favourite songs is 22h39 by Danger. He only every played it at concerts if I'm correct, but it's a really nice track (that I find somewhat nostalgic for some odd reason?). My favourite artist as a whole would probably be Daft Punk, since they were my first real musical interest and gosh their music is great. I'm also a pretty big fan of the aforementioned Danger, along with Pendulum, Nero, and Justice. That's only a few, but they're the most prominent I can think of so I'll stick with it.
As for genres and such, I listen to pretty much everything! Electropop to darkcore, I love it all. I tend to stray from heavier music nowadays because it gives me headaches, but I still adore it nonetheless.

Techno and dubstep? Yeah, they're enjoyable. I get the gist of what you're saying, and, personally, EMD is a good genre of music. Not too sure of Artists though (Never have really remembered them unless I listened to over 5 of their songs.) Some mix well and others don't. Thanks for the information, though. Any suggestions for songs I should listen to? My range of likes is very large.

Haha, you've just named almost every EDM artist I have ever listened to. Another one might be Mord Fustang, he does more electro house but pretty much anything he makes is good. Oh, and Bluescreens (especially 'Nice Shot!')

As for preferences, I'd say pretty much anything. Electro-house, dubstep, brostep, trap, bithop, etc.

I'll be the first to say stuff nowadays is getting a little too headache inducing. But, honestly, it's not all 'computerized crap' like my boss calls it. Some of it is good, some of it is really good, other stuff isn't in my opinion.

I would like to ask a question: Any trance addicts here?

I had completely forgot about Mord Fustang. Sometimes I'll ask my friends if they've ever licked the rainbow and if they say no i make them listen to Lick the Rainbow. I used to listen to Mord a lot, but ever since i switched from my i pod to my phone music wise i dont think i have any of his songs on there.

An EDM thread? How did I not see this? One of the best outcomes of people using computers in the 90's haha. But yah, for me, what really made me love EDM was hearing Voodoo People by The Prodigy, in my sister's car in 95(I know, I'm old) Which Th Prodigy is a great "starter" act for people who have never heard it before, I suppose. But Combichrist, Lords of Acid(They're just wicked dirty, but the sounds they emanate are worth it :P) Mt. Eden, Klaypex, DJ Alex S,Avicii, Living Tombstone, Aftermath, I'm beginning to think there's too much dubstep on my list haha. And hey, Daft Punk was quite amazing back when haha. Kmfdm(Please don't kill me if they aren't EDM) is another one that just makes me happy for some reason.

So recently I've come across one artist in specific, Prototyperaptor. He has 4 songs I greatly enjoy. They are Thrillseeker, Drive Hard, Timeless, and Play Em' Off. Now Timeless and Play 'em Off are my favorite two. They are modern and electronic but they also have a nice jazzy feel to them and I love it. If anyone has any other songs that are like that please let me know.

>>6>>5 People listening to hardstyle. I feel like I found people from a civilization that I thought was extinct. I don't really see too much good hardstyle as there used to be, and its like its starting to fade which gets me kind of sad. I would say that Blame It on the Music by Headhunterz got me into EDM, but I can't really say for sure. To be honest though, >>14 I suggest you get into ScreenLove as well. The guy has some really good stuff. Especially his song called Something. The bass. The bass man.

>>16 Bump! Im putting the EDM thread back at the top for anyone who wishes to put in their input. There are a lot of great artists mentioned here if anyone is looking to try to get into EDM further. Also if you have a particular sound your looking for as far as style goes im sure someone that might look for this thread could help you out into whatever kind of EDM you're looking for!

I got introduced to EDM through producing music. I got my hands on a DAW and listened to what other people were making with it and branched out from there. Now it's pretty much all I listen to.
My favorite producer would probably be Fox Stevenson.
Pendulum, Swedish House Mafia, Tristam, and really Monstercat in general are what I recommend.
>>14 Heh, I'm listening to Timeless as I write this. :D

24 Name: TheDuD : 2015-02-10 09:38 ID:aj9YsNCM [Del]

>>23 Awesome! Pretty much all I listen to is EDM xD and I also really enjoy Fox stevenson. I know of most of the others you've named but I don't really listen to them. As far as prototype raptor goes I'm not as into him as I once was but i still really enjoy his music. SOmeone I just started to get into is TheFatRat, mainly Windfall and Xenogenesis. Some other artists I'm into are Virtual Riot, Coyote Kisses, TheFatRat, Fox Stevenson, actually it might just be better for me to post my youtube playlist because I have a lot of artists that I only listen to one of their songs.
