LITE is a Japanese instrumental mathrock band formed in 2003 by Kozo Kusumoto (guitar), Nobuyuki Takeda (guitar), Akinori Yamamoto (drums), and Jun Izawa (bass). The group has released albums and EPs nearly constantly since their inception. Their style is often characterized by their quick playing, strange time signatures, and bouncing, ricocheting riffs. Tracks like "On A Gloomy Evening" are a perfect example of what this band is about; cluttered, busy-sounding, cinematic pieces of music very fun to jam to and best listened to with headphones. Their music videos are fantastic too: check out this one for the track "Bond". Are they good live? I dunno, does Geico save you 15% or more on car insurance? Here's a half-hour long six-song set that the band did at SXSW in 2011 if you doubt them.

This is seriously one of the most talented and underrated bands out there today and while they are internationally recognized as a forerunner of mathrock, they could still use an even bigger fanbase. Spread da love for LITE. /o/

These guys put word out earlier this week that they'll be releasing their 4th full-length album Installation on June 5th. Definitely gonna keep an eye out for that. It looks like aside from "Bond" which was also released on 2012's Past, Present, Future EP, the other 9 tracks are all new.

Excited Yata is excited. Bump.

Great thread Yata, I remember being shown LITE by my guitar teacher in high school. I happend to skip my lunch period and walked in on him blasting Ghost Dance it in his class room. Good thing I asked him who they were, He noticed my intrest, and then proceded to tell me more about the band, and even gave me a burnt copy of Phantasia to take home. I'll always remember that. Too bad he got fired the year after because of budget cuts. When budget cuts are under way the first thing they go to is art, it's messed up, man.
Anyway I just recently got Past, Present, Future and it's really good. I can't wait to see what they have in store next. You'll find it quite interesting just how much LITE has influenced other instrumental bands, bands like Adebisi Shank who actually said that LITE was one of their inspirations.
(Speaking of, I haven't listen to them in a long time.)

I feel ya on the budget cut deal, dude. My school district's lost some sweet people the last few years. I heard these guys performed SXSW again last month but I got news of it a few days too late. Seems they rocked it hard though, as expected.

Their new album Installation was released this morning. Favorite tracks on it so far are "Bond," "Echolocation," and "Nomad," though I'm gonna have to give it all a few more spins to click. That said, this is easily my favorite LITE release since Phantasia back in '08. /o/

Great jams. I recommend it to everyone.

They released this DVD trailer/tour advertisement earlier this week and I want to share it because it showcases just how great these guys are.

I don't like bumping threads four posts in a row, but this hasn't seen the light of the top of the board in over a year and a half, so I don't feel bad.
