LITE is a Japanese instrumental mathrock band formed in 2003 by Kozo Kusumoto (guitar), Nobuyuki Takeda (guitar), Akinori Yamamoto (drums), and Jun Izawa (bass). The group has released albums and EPs nearly constantly since their inception. Their style is often characterized by their quick playing, strange time signatures, and bouncing, ricocheting riffs. Tracks like
"On A Gloomy Evening" are a perfect example of what this band is about; cluttered, busy-sounding, cinematic pieces of music very fun to jam to and best listened to with headphones. Their music videos are fantastic too: check out
this one for the track "Bond". Are they good live? I dunno, does Geico save you 15% or more on car insurance?
Here's a half-hour long six-song set that the band did at SXSW in 2011 if you doubt them.
This is seriously one of the most talented and underrated bands out there today and while they are internationally recognized as a forerunner of mathrock, they could still use an even bigger fanbase. Spread da love for LITE. /o/
