Cloudkicker is the alias of Ben Sharp's one-man instrumental metal project. Breaking onto the scene in the mid-2000s, Mr. Sharp released his complex, catchy, and edgy music online via his bandcamp page and quickly gathered a devoted following by indie junkies, metalheads, and instrumental music fans alike.

Cloudkicker has forever stayed a one-man project based out of Sharp's home in Columbus, Ohio and Sharp doesn't profit from his music other than custom-paid orders through merch on his aforementioned website. He even releases some of his stuff for free. He has a steady job in some career of something, (I don't think he's released what exactly he does for privacy purposes) and music is truly more of a hobby for him than an expectation. Due to this, his sound has greatly evolved over the years with little outside pressure and in his own words "he has created many compilations of songs and they don't necessarily sound the same as other compilations of songs that he has created."

Yep. Wise words.

Cloudkicker is one of the most consistent underground solo musicians out there, and is well worth checking out. Instrumental music has a way of becoming dull and repetitive for listeners unacquainted with it, but due to half his releases being of EP length and many others branching into different moods, they're incredibly listenable and a great place to start if you're trying to get into instrumental music.
The production is top-quality for an independent artist too.

As of this writing, his discography is:
The Discovery - 2005
The Map Is Not The Territory - 2008
Portmanteau - 2009
]]][[[ - 2010
Beacons - 2010
Let Yourself Be Huge - 2011
Loop - 2011
Fade - 2012

Been meaning to check this out for a while now. Recent comments in my music plugging thread (Yata, obviously( finally got me actually doing it.

Right up my alley eh? Well, if the first two tracks of The Discovery is anything to go by, then absolutely yes. This is my kinda stuff here. It's metal, but not constantly unnecessarily brutal. Basically, actually creating music instead of just chugging away. :)

I like it a lot.

So he released this single/EP as an experimental attempt at drone/ambient back in January and I totally missed it. It's called Hello. and you can stream and/or download it for free via that link.

It's neat and pretty intriguing for a first attempt at the genre. If he mixes it with some of his legit song stuff in the future, great things could be awaiting us.

Downloaded this guys work en masse (it's all free on bandcamp) recently and I've been loving it ever since.

I've yet to get through all of it, but so far Beacons, Subsume and Fade are my favourites.

>>11 Pretty sure it's an EP. Not liking it as much as Little Histories, and it's nowhere near as good as my favourite stuff of his, but it's good.

Shame he's planning to stop creating physical releases of his albums by the way. Thinking of buying one of the Subsume vinyls while it's still up there.

Same m8.
I just get pleased whenever he puts something new out. Whatever it is, it's "nice" at worst. Like, Woum isn't anything groundbreaking or amazing, but it's more free Cloudkicker so like, I'll gladly take it. lol

Wish I had an incentive to get vinyl. I'd totally pick up a Beacons one before they're out.
