Any weird tastes in music? (53)

1 Name: Ramen Alchemist : 2012-11-11 15:51 ID:Ba89cDWL [Del]

I feel like I'm the only one with extremely weird tastes in music in my school...I love music from the 30's-60's such a Frank Sinatra and Louis Armstrong, and then I love movie scores and I have a PASSION for classical music. Anyone else with a weird taste in music? Or even better, the same as mine? :P

2 Name: Magnolia!2ipznOcc5g : 2012-11-11 16:31 ID:/zSpe5ZU [Del]

I dont think that's honestly weird.. It's CLASSICS. Meaning you've got CLASS.

I mainly listen to covers or mashups of popular songs on YT. Talented people out there man...

3 Name: Yuna : 2012-11-11 18:13 ID:VuLID0kz [Del]

It's a matter of preference, I say. I have a friend who also likes 60's music, and I as well sing some of these songs even if I'm just seventeen.

4 Name: Cabe : 2012-11-12 13:31 ID:RkPxy2WS [Del]

Hmm lets see here...

I grew up listening to the Beatles. As such, classic rock has become second hand nature music to listen to. As an extension to that, Rock music became a foundation to what I first started listening to.

Then I got into band and I started to listen to Classical music, mostly on piano and some orchestra. I learned to play the marimba and the piano and I was entranced by Romantic Period music. My favorite piano piece, "Benediction de Dieu dans la Solitude" is a Romantic period piece by my favorite composer, Franz Liszt.

Sometime later, I started watching Anime and I got into Anime OSTs and OPs and EDs. At this point, I began listening to Video Game OSTs as well.

Then I was introduced to electronica. I listened to Trance and Techno first, but then I became a huge fan of ambient, dark ambient, house, downtempo, and post-rock. Downtempo is my favorite out of these.

Then I was introduced to Bossa Nova, I have been in love with it ever since. I love listening to Bossa Nove while relaxing!

There ya go, I still listen to everyone of those and even more with great devotion and pride. I have been honored to be able to appreciate all this great music I still listen to today. Hopefully this list will keep on growing.

Most people don't get into it quite as much as me, but pretty much my all time favorite song right here...

Gonna work on some writing? Listen to this.
Gonna play some space? Listen to this.
Gonna do some general internets? Listen to this.
Gonna play Minecraft? Listen to this.

I need to get this on a CD so I can play it at work and my life would be complete.

I don't think that anything here is weird music, I guess it's like Yuna said, it's a matter of preference. So let me just check if I have weird bands here...

Bands I find weird:
-The Residents - This is not a top however this is the weirdest thing I ever heard ever in my life ... in all my 19 years.
-Gentle Giant
-Some Zappa songs and Mothers of Invention

I don't really care about these bands (except the last one), but I think I'm really scared of The Residents especially their videoclips. I guess the weirdest genre is Experimental Rock for me.

I like Vocaloids which are singing androids. In other words, a computer does all the singing, not a person. Hatsune Miku is the most popular one. There is also Len and Rin Kagamine, Luka Magrine, and more. My favorite is Gumi.

>>41 I'm gonna correct you there, buddy. Vocaloids are not singing androids, They're fucking synthesizers. meaning that they are literally just electronic musical instruments used by people. Several versions were created with either higher or lower frequencies and characters and names were later developed for the programs to make them more appealing.

Quite frankly, I don't understand the hype for pieces of software that you can buy/pirate and install on your computer and quickly make half assed Vocaloid tunes out of your ass if you wanted to.
You don't see that shit happening with other synthesizers like.
Like the immortal Moog or Roland Juno.

But anyway allow me to get to my point and set the record straight because you kids are fucking stupid.

Listening to a genre in another language, does not make it weird. There is nothing trippy or head turing about it, other than the language being different.
Just think about it. Your weird can be someone else's normal in another country.

You want to know what real weird music is? Go listen to No Wave!
No Wave was a unique underground music movement that emerged in New York around the Late 70's.
The Scene grew such bands as James Chance and the Contortions, DNA, Theoretical Girls, and Teenage Jesus and the Jerks.
( James Chance and the Contortions is the band seen performing in the image above)

No Wave's sound had a strange form of creating music and rhyme from something that seemed to be nothing more than simple chaos of clashing noise, mashing of notes, and mumbling or screaming of words that are sometimes complete fucking gibberish.
(How's that for a different language?)

There was no grey area for this genre. No Wave was the epitome weird. And it was embraced because of it.

J-pop/rock and K-pop/rock doesn't hold a fucking candle to the shear madness of No Wave.

Here are some examples:
James Chance & The Contortions
Teenage Jesus and the Jerks - The closet
DNA - Not Moving
Theoretical Girls - You Got Me
Mars - 11,000 Volts

I'm done.
