I've recently heard his stuff. The themes in his lyrics are probably the exact opposite of the sort you would hear in this kind of rap, but this thread got me thinking about it. I don't know him well enough to make a whole thread though.

I've only listened to Food & Liquor, and that was a pretty decent listen. Far from the classic it's occasionally touted as, though. I'm probably going to listen to "The Cool" next so I can form a proper opinion on him.

Apparently his last two albums were major disappointments, so I probably won't bother checking those out.

Yeah I mean it's not really a new concept, conscious hip-hop. It just so happens that he presents it really well, and for a lot of people it's probably the first time encountering the genre. Especially if they just happen to stumble upon it after hearing only mainstream hip-hop for so long.

I heard about him when the music video for Bitch Bad was going around Tumblr, so I listened to a few of his songs after that. Youtube's the worst place for comments though; you can expect to see a random scathing remark about Nicki Minaj on every other page.

Not really into these new hip hop artists, they gone too much into opo and commercial mode. Not saying all have, but I keep to my 90's hip hop. The best hip hop no one can deny that.

I wasn't really into rap at all really, I did listen to T.I. and that was probably it. >>18 and >>19 If you've heard of Lupe and enjoyed some of his tracks I suggest you listen to some rappers from the U.K. like Akala, Imoortal Tech. , Logic, MicRighteous, and Lowkey. They all cover the same topics and issues that Lupe sort of covers.
