Can you dig it? I love these types of music because they aren't usually spewing their ill-informed opinions at me with those pesky lyrics. Check out bands like: Hungry ghosts, Mogwai, motionless, and aphex twin on YouTube!

Ah yes.
I certainly dig me some Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Sigur Ros, and sgt. for post rock, and I don't listen to a lot of ambient, but I'm willing to try out more. I heard Loscil's new album was great, so I'm likely gonna check that out when I get a chance. Hooray for post rock thread (and your other genres too) but, I mean....post rock. Yes. I am moist.

Adrian von Zeigler. 'nuff said. He is just so badass.

That's great. I haven't heard of a lot of these artists. I like bouncing from related music videos on YouTube. Post rock (all instrumental) is so innovative and original. Explosions in the sky is also great. >>2 for ambient aphex twin and massive attack (does theme for house) are great. Oh and here: *hands paper towel* for the moisture.

Yeah, I like some post-rock. Pic related happens to be one of my favorites.

I'm not too big on the other two genres you mentioned, but I am a fan of a few of Aphex Twin's works. Selected Ambient Works 85–92, to be exact. Good album.

The first song I heard by him was "4". Love at first snare drum.

Bumping for a few reasons, I recently listened to two instrumental albums that I'm lovin right now, Geneva by Russian Circles (post-metal), and The Black Rain by Anoice (ambient/post-rock)

That and the new Godspeed You! Black Emperor album is being released this Tuesday. In true fashion, I haven't listened to the leak and I'm waiting til it drops to hear it, but I'm sure it'll be fantastic.

I should check these out. I crave new music. In news: went to a club, crap music imo, anybody notice most modern rap/pop would be better if the "stars" just stfu? IMO. A good site to legally download (free) good instrumental, ambient or whatever is ccmixter.com

I just discovered a band called Sigur Ros. I have no fucking idea what to make of it. It's either amazing, or, or... no, it's amazing.

Anyway, I've been really obsessed with Agalloch lately, specifically their album Ashes Against the Grain. I swear, it's the ultimate space-out album. Listening to this album as a whole through good headphones and in total darkness is a truly amazing experience. The track "Fallin Snow" is particularly awesome.
It's not specifically post-metal, though. If I had to classify it, I'd say blackened doom metal, but with a heavy post-rock influence.
If you like it, also check out Apocynthion.

Also, I'm fucking in love with the album Weather Systems by Anathema. They're not specifically a post-rock band, but their new stuff come pretty close. They started out as a death/doom band, but their music has gotten increasingly lighter and happier over the years, until we got their current spacey, uplifting style of rock.
It's one of the few times in which a metal band has changed for the better (*cough*Metallica*cough*).

So yes. Bump.

Fuck yeah, Sigur Ros.
I'll check the rest of those out later when I get a chance, but as far as Sigur Ros goes, make sure you check out their ultimate track, "Untitled 8/Popplagio."

Because it's godly. /o/

So no mention of Mono from Japan in this thread yet? Strange.
Other bands worth checking out:
God is an astronaut
65 days of static
Maybeshewill
The evpatoria report
A. Armada
Caspian
(I can probably go on forever)

*cough*"You Are There - Mono" in post >>9*cough*

Good bands though. 65daysofstatic is the only one I've actually heard (I have One Time For All Time, "Drove Through Ghosts..." is a godly track) but I've heard of the others save for The Evpatoria Report.

For neoclassical by itself i don't know any artists, but as for neo classical metal there's always Yngwie Malmsteen!

This isn't purely post-rock, neoclassical or ambient. It's more like black metal with a heavy post rock sound, but there's no way in hell I'm bumping the black metal thread, so I'm just gonna put this here.

It just came up on my youtube recommendations. It's kinda mind-blowing.

>>12 While I do like all of those bands, I have to say that they all pretty much sound the same, really. None of them are unique enough for me to really get into, but they do harbour a listen every once in a while, and it's good work music.

This is pretty much the deal with most post rock bands, it would seem.

I heard this when it first leaked. The musical peaks that this reaches are just insanely awe-invoking, but the vocals grate on my ears.

I clearly don't black metal.

>>17 You should get into it, it'll open up a whole new world of epicness for you. Just keep listening, it'll grow on you, trust me.

Don't mind the fans, though, a lot of them are close-minded fucks who make the genre seem a lot worse than it is.
