>>3 pick-no pick, it's really up to the player. Alot of metal/rock musicians use picks since they give a sharper attack and more defined tones. Alot of jazz musicians play pick style, but it's solely up to you. I mostly play finger style, but I use a pick every now and then, because I like the sharper notes.
There's a guy on youtube called "thespartanfan", who is pretty big on bass guitar. I'd recommend him.
