These guys needed a good thread.

Rise Against is a melodic hardcore/punk rock band from Chicago. They formed in 1999, and though they've had 5 older guitarists over the course of their career, the lineup since 2007 has been Tim McIlrath (vocals, rhythm guitar), Joe Prinicpe (bass), Brandon Barnes (drums), and Zach Blair (lead guitar). The band's early sound was mainly that of hardcore punk and punk rock, and slowly became more catchy and accessible over time while keeping the edge. As of now, they have released 6 studio albums.

Rise Against is known for their support of left-wing politics and their liberal standpoint on issues. They often write songs about causes they support or common hardships in current-day America. (They had their angsty fun under Bush, I'll tell ya.) The band members are advocates of organizations such as Amnesty International, PETA, and the It Gets Better Project. All the members of the band are vegan, and three of them are straight edge.

Seems like stuff most of our members here would be fond of.

Did I mention they're energetic as fuck and kick ass live?

As you read the picture I put on here, your thread had 5 posts and wasn't informative. Yata's thread was created with the intention of being more informative, as said in the first line here, "These guys needed a good thread." The only place Yata went wrong is he didn't link the thread he was replacing. Yata, I believe I need to point you to the fourth statement. This could have been avoided if you linked Setton's and mentioned why you're making a new thread, because Setton's thread was crappy-bull-shit.

New album The Black Market is pretty solid. Seems like it will be more of a grower than their previous albums of the Blair era which is nice. Anyone listen to it yet? Opinions? Thoughts?

I was never a fan, but I do find their music to be fitting in the background while... gaming, for example. I also like to listen to a few choice tracks like "Re-education (through labour)" or "Hero of War" every so often.
To be fair, however, the only album I've listened to in full attention was "Appeal to Reason," which did absolutely nothing to change this opinion of them.

Thanks for making this thread! Rise Against was the first punk band that I ever got into and thanks to them I was introduced to Bad Religion, Black Flag,and Anti-flag.

There was a time I wasn't listenning to music at all. Then I discovered this band and got a bibliography of them, and I've spent more than a year listenning only to this.

Apparently their best album is "The Sufferer and the Witness," and if that's true, then Rise Against doesn't really do a lot for me. They're kinda just like a really intense pop-punk band, and I do like them, but not to the extent that I'd actually feel compelled to buy any of their albums.

Having said that, I'd really love to see them live sometime.

I love the band. My favorite song is probably Make It Stop (September's Children)

My favorite by these guys is Re-Education (Through Labor). Such a great song.
