Chevelle is an American alternative metal band from Grayslake, Illinois. Up until the mid 2000s, Chevelle was composed of three brothers, Pete Loeffler (guitar, vocals), Joe Loeffler (bass), and Sam Loeffler (drums). Joe left the band around that time, though different accounts exist on whether he left on his own accord and then regretted it, or if the band fired him. The remaining brothers hired their brother-in-law and longtime friend Dean Bernardini for bass permanently.

Their sound and style has been compared to that of Tool, and their influences include other bands such as Helmet, and The Cure. In the mainstream rock/metal scene, Chevelle is and has always been one of the most consistent and unique sounding bands out there. The guitars are heavy and loud, the bass is thumpy and strong, and the equally efficient drumming is icing on the cake, but the main catch is Pete's vocals are easily recognizable among his other mainstream rock/metal peers. His lyrics are often described as cryptic and loosely lyriced, going for strange references and seemingly irrelevant thoughts to create the context of a song instead of trite phrases we've all heard a bijillion times on rock radio by now. Over the years, they have released 6 studio albums, as follows:

Point #1 - 1999
Wonder What's Next - 2002
This Type of Thinking Could Do Us In - 2004
Vena Sera - 2007
Sci-Fi Crimes - 2009
Hats Off To The Bull - 2011

If you're into the mainstream rock stuff, such as the likes of Papa Roach, Breaking Benjamin, Taproot, etc, do yourself a favor and check out Chevelle. The sound is similar, yet significantly different enough to introduce you to a wider spectrum of metal and rock music, and they are a band to be acknowledged by mainstream rock and metal fans alike.

*Fanspaz attack* I hadn't realized just how many people like them. They are honestly on of my favorite bands.

New single "Take Out The Gunman" was officially released. New album La Gargola comes out at the start of April.

If you liked the Tool vibes that permeated through their earlier discography, you'll probably dig this. I'd say my only gripe is that they're still not really doing anything new with their sound.

...but when you're this consistent, that's not really a problem.

The gripe expressed in >>6 was proven wrong. New album La Gargola was released the other day and is easily Chevelle's most experimental (and in my opinion, best) album to date.

From refinements of their signature sound to moody effect-laden experimental beauties, this one's got it all, and a fantastic near-gapless flow too. /o/
