I am looking for dramatic covers or original songs for a movie I am filming for the OCL Film Fest. Due to the necessity of it being completely original, I will need various soundtracks to edit in. We're so completely swamped with the writing, filming, and editting of it and honestly have no time to do it ourselves. Therefore, I am reaching out to you, the Dollars community, to perform songs for the movie.

I need you to give me a list of names of those who performed in it so that I may give you all proper credit. The following is the criteria for sending it in:

It must be at least 2 minutes long.
It cannot have major lyrical parts.
It must be in mp3 format.
It must be at as high of a quality as you can record it at.
It must have at least one instrument in it.
It cannot have more than six instruments in it.
It CAN be made using a program rather than with you playing/singing it in person.

Here are some examples of songs that we are looking for. If you can cover them with at least one instrument, I will love you. Feel free to also send in some of your original songs that have similar properties. We need songs both fast and slow.

Some of these are too/less dramatic than intended, but they're good examples. I just want things that at least sound like a good soundtrack, you know? Well figure out how everything fits together later. I would like to at least have a few good piano and drumming pieces since all I have are cheap keyboards at my disposal.

Also, does anyone know a good place to download free sound effects? Of course, an official site where the owner gives away full permissions (as in, they don't have any sort of copyright or whatever on them and give you permission to use them).

I know you guys don't enter much, but PLEASE send in something for this. Even if it's just at the minimum time, I will absolutely love and adore you if you do. I will also love and adore you if you give me a site that has free soundtracks or sound effects with full permissions.

I'll ask some friends of mine if they have any instrumental recordings, and then see if they're interested in the tracks being used in a movie of some sort.

I'm only sending DVDs to those whose music is picked to be used. Even if several people send music in, only so much will be used.

Also, if you want a quick idea of the plot, the movie picks up two weeks after the apocalpyse. It centers around the internal conflicts of seven young men and women who seem to be the only survivors. I would give more detail, but I don't want to spoil anything.

Forgot to ask last night, just sent their lead a text asking if they have anything. They do hard-rock mostly, and I THINK they have some instrumentals, and their drummer is obsessed with the zombie apocalypse. I will be impressed if they don't have anything.

Speaking of which, he replied while I typed that. He says they have one instrumental that has a bit of a WWIII type feel to it, fast-paced and whatnot. He's going to send me a copy to listen to.

I'm told that the recording is just a demo, so the quality isn't great (which might not be bad, considering the post-apocalyptic theme). I'm asking permission to send the demo along to you, and if you like it I will ask to borrow some professional gear to record the song in better quality. One of the many perks of being a Stage Technician :P

They love the idea of you using it though. Especially since there's the chance that I'll record their song with good gear, as opposed to their guitarist's basement junk xD

Just as an FYI, it's not a zombie apocalypse or anything. It's from more realistic means, and the story picks up only a couple weeks after the final event. Either way, any sort of music is good. We're really, really lacking the time to record it ourselves.

There is a center column straight through that link that says "Free Sound Effects" with a sub-heading that reads "Free Sound Effects: General"

Anything under that heading is free for you to download at your own whim. It even tells you how to download it, and offers a preview, both through the link to the effect you're looking at.

General Heading > Select a Category > Select a Type > Select an Effect > Preview/Download

That's why I disliked PIR though, the site layout is messy and confusing :T It took me ages to find my FX there the first time.

In that case, PIR isn't particularly useful (very limited sfx types in that little column there), but I'll keep it in mind.

That's actually a really common way to record bands in the studio. Get all of their tracks separately, condense them down into one track later. Sounds better, easier to edit.

I don't know when I'd be able to do it, though. I'm sure they could scrap together a trash recording for you if you ask nicely :P

For me to do it could be another two weeks. I've already been signed on for more chaos this coming week T_T

I'm a bit of a cinematographer myself. ;) I guess it comes down to personal taste and the atmosphere of it all. I compose mostly orchestral pieces...but I'll see if I can't write a piano piece for you. ^^

This is going to be postponed to next year. We (obviously) couldn't do the filming this summer. Because we needed to film out in the pit, it was impossiburu. The heat just killed us. To be honest, I really didn't want to be responsible for some kid passing out from heat exhaustion and not getting any help for hours because we have to carry them out. Plus, it's been raining a lot (despite the heat), so all of the scenes where we needed the sand were destroyed. (We couldn't blow or even kick the sand up so it looked natural because it was always damp.)

We'll hopefully be able to continue next year, but until further notice, please don't bump this thread.
