What headphones are YOU using? (110)

1 Name: reilyx !.18ItdoukM : 2012-01-15 16:50 ID:B8gyXHq0 [Del]

What headphones are you listening to right now?

What model are they? Would you recommend them to another Dollar? What are their specs?

Personally, I use a pair of Sennheiser HD 280 Pro's, and they are absolutely fantastic. They're a little big, but they are leagues better than consumer brands like Skullcandy (INK'd) and Dr.Dres. Surprisingly comfortable as well; I can wear these for 12+ hours before noticing any discomfort. The replication of highs, mids, and lows, is shockingly even. I would recommend these to any Dollar that wants a pair of headphones that are better than average consumer products.

Specs: 8hz-25,000hz frequency response. 32db of isolation (compared to standard consumer 20db, it's amazing). 64ohm resistance, so they don't need an amp. Parts are user-replaceable.

Price: About $100, and can be bought from a lot of places.

*This can go in either technology OR music, so I chose to put it here since it is more music-oriented.*

>>2 This thread is way better. So if we're going on if this is a duplicate, this can replace the other one.

However, I don't think they're really duplicates, this is more in general, while the other one involves the OP wanting to know good headphones, for themselves.

>>2 I actually did Ctrl+F the history, and found that thread. I figured this one would be a lot more helpful and informative ^_^

Sorry for the Dup scare :P

>>3 That was also what I thought. I mean, I'm always down for checking headphones out for myself, but in this case I'm more of a reference point. I do a lot of audio mixing in my weekly schedule, so I figured I would ping some of that info over to this place, and check out other opinions.

It's cool. Just trying to dodge a rage post, I apologize.

In that case, I used to adore ear buds. But now that my choice in music as evolved I've moved up to larger head sets.

Currently I'm using the Low Rider by Skullcandy.
Speaker Diameter: 40mm
Magnet Type: NdFeB
Frequency Response: 18-20k Hz
Impedance: 32 ohms
Max Input Power: 400mW
Cable Type: TPE
Cable Length: 1.2m
Plug Type: 3.5mm Gold Plated

Not the best on the market, but I needed a versatile headset that I could use at work without sacrificing sound quality. These are around $40.

6 Name: Appuru : 2012-01-15 23:50 ID:pGpiH2Mq [Del]

I'm using Ear Pollution CS40's. A single pair is fairly cheap, only around $35. If I were to give them a rating, it would be a 7/10. The reason be is that it's not as comfortable as the box may say. Feels like my outer ears are being pushed on. :( But, other than that, they're pretty boss. The highs are respectable and the bass is spectacular. A great choice for someone who doesn't plan to have them on all the time and for very long. Unfortunately, the specs were thrown away... along with the box they were printed on, so that's all I can tell you.

Plug: 3.5mm

>>14 I don't have a link immediately prepared for you, but I do know some of the specs off the top of my head, and that it is NOT worth your money.

A typical pair of Dre Beats will run you $300. Specs are:
50hz-20,000hz replication
8ohm resistance
20db isolation (ambient noise reduction)

I have also heard that they break easily. Now, here's a comparison to Skullcandy INK'd earbuds, which cost you $20 compared to $300. Specs are:

50hz-20,000hz replication.
8ohm resistance.
20db isolation. (ambient noise reduction)

~~~
TL;DR: Dre Beats cost $280 more than they should, and are not worth your time or money.
Assuming Aquatic has no idea and/or is too lazy to provide any information, (no discredit meant, I'm basing this on the assumption that all people on the internet are idiots) here is a link to Skullcandy's website.
Here.
Generally speaking, I would recommend Skullcandy to anybody who can't afford really solid headphones, as they are a very good consumer second. Especially since they have the same, if not better, stats and reviews in comparison to those fad-based Dre Beats.
>>30 They're expensive because of a brand name. For example, if you compare two products side by side that have the exact same purpose and do it just as well, but one is made by a better-known producer... Well, the one that is less-known will be worth less, because the maker is less famous.
The ONLY +1 that the Beats get is that they have a built-in EQ to enhance low-end frequencies. That said, the headphones themselves still can't go as low as CHEAPER professional-grade headphones.
However, they kept breaking on me so I bit the bullet and bought some 'FullMetalJacket' buds from em, they have a all metal design which is (hopefully) going to mean they stand up better against the thrashing my poor previous buds received, hehe.
I can't believe that only one person mentioned Bose! I mean, they specialize in sound products(though they do produce other things)
Anyways, I am currently using IE2 earbud headphones. Cost about 80-100$, but I got mine for about 12 dollars, since I had the old model of these and they broke about a week before the warranty expired. Bose only made me pay the cost of shipping for my old headphones to their factory and the cost for them to send me the new pair, and they only needed to see that I had sent in my pair, didn't have to wait until the pair got to the factory before they sent it.
So not only did I get the new and improved pair very cheap, they weren't even assholes in the least bit about it. I fucking love good customer service.
Although I did originally get a pair of these(the pair I sent in) for the durability, and they failed in just under a year, they still lasted longer than any other pair I had. They are (the new ones) very comfortable compared to other earbud headphones I've had, although they might take a little getting used to since they don't really go into your ear, just sit on the outside a bit. Lastly, I used to spend about 20$ on headphones once every 3 months or so, so this pair has easily paid for itself, even if I hadn't gotten it replaced. All in all, I love my headphones and I'll probably get more headphones from Bose when I need to.
And about Skullcandy vs Beats audio....
I would Skullcandy over Beats because I like my speakers to be made by people who make speakers and not people who make music. In fact, according to Wikipedia that seems to be their whole marketing strategy, to get famous people to wear them for.
68 Name: reilyx !.18ItdoukM : 2012-03-12 17:16 ID:Pd9rWttI [Del]
>>67 I love you. DEATH TO BEATS.
Anyhow, I think Bose is just uncommon due to their price and their most common use. When I think 'Bose,' I don't think headphones. I think Consumer Surround Sound. Which, in all essence, is what they're known for. They make a killer surround sound system.
I think it's amusing that people get caught up in Bose. Most people get caught up in one little trick: When you go to their store, and sit in that room that sounds ungodly amazing, you instantaneously imagine your home theatre sounding that way. What most people don't know is that the room was acoustically engineered for that specific surround sound system, which costs several thousands of dollars to build properly.
Is Bose terrible? No, not by any means. They make a pretty good product. However, it seems that people get caught up in the tricks.
I would give it more weight, but Bose hasn't even released the specifications of the IE2 Buds. If they won't tell me something as simple as the frequency response, then I don't think it's worth my money :T
They look sweet though :3
I've used skullcandy in-ear phones before, they're much too bass heavy and have a pretty poor range.
Currently using Plattan headphones and Medis in-ears from Urbanears. They come in loads of different colours and sound pretty decent, plus you don't look like a fucking douche by wearing those fucking Beats headphones which just tells people youy're an obnoxious bellend who has more money than sense.
When I need headphones, I use this Ableplanet NC180b noise-canceling pair. Makes things nice and quiet, handles music and other sounds beautifully, and thanks to Costco didn't cost me all that much.
...Of course, half the time I forget them and end up using a cheap pair of earbuds anyway.
Skullcandy headphones are garbage. I have had about 3 pairs and, yeah thy are good at blocking noise, but neither of those pairs lasted more than 2 months. And i usually take very good care of my headphones. After the 3rd-4th pair i gave up. I wasnt going to spend $20 on cheaply made headphones
I use Sony earbuds on the go, and I have a set of Bose headphones and Beats earbuds at home.
Unfortunately, both of my Sony earbuds are unusable as one has been worn out from constant use and the other is lost somewhere 300 miles away. So I'll be looking into some new earbuds soon.
Necro-bumping my old thread because somebody posted a thread about Beats and that is unacceptable. Not just because it's a thread that could have been posted to bump this one, but because Beats suck. Period.
RCA mega bass ear buds, they may be cheap, but they have been the best pair of head phones ever
So, I decided to replace my old Hesh cans with a set of Hesh 2.0, and while they appear a little more aesthetically pleasing, and are by far more comfortable than my old ones, I'm not hearing much difference in sound. I mean, everything is clearer, and the highs and lows are more profound with the 2.0's, but not by much.
But, love 'em nonetheless. A good investment for $60.
I have really awful luck and always end up breaking/losing/destroying my headphones somehow, so I always just use a pair of really cheap, crappy ones.
The pair I'm using now got somehow sent through the washer but still work XD
