Re-opening thread. I cannot learn scale. and I do not have the talent to play by ear like most in the south. I am city so yeah. Anyway can someone direct me to a website where I can download videos-of how-to-plays such as Avenged Sevenfold.

I have this project that Masamune and I are working on to form a tribute band and bring the sounds of A7x to our very little town. He is a better musician than me and if I do not catch up he will kick me out of the project.

Have you tried learning by Tabs? They're very helpful for starting off if you can't play by ear, or read sheet music.

Each string is clearly laid out, and the numbers indicate which fret to play and when(ish) to play them. The only by-ear you have to worry about is timing. It gives you the notes, you just learn to play them at the correct pacing by listening to the song while you play along.

Ultimate-Guitar.com is good for tabs, and I believe they also have some text-based instruction somewhere.

If you're looking for particular songs, I suggest you google:

[song name] by [band name] [instrument you play] Tab

Well kiddo, while I don't have a link for you, I can tell you right now...if you're just learning to play guitar, A7x will be hell on you to try and play.

Does Masamune know that you're new to this? If he doesn't, tell him. Hopefully the guy will be lenient on you trying to learn. If not, that sounds kinda dickwaddy. Kicking you out for inexperience means one of two things: The guy really wants to do this and won't put up with any incompetence, or he's just a douche who has no understanding of how long it can take and how learning varies by person.

Also confused as to why you think playing by ear is easier to do in the South as opposed to the city. I see no connection whatsoever except for that there's far more bluesy/jazz/stuff here.

>>5 That hadn't even crossed my mind, should have mentioned that as well. A7x is one of those hard-to-learn-on bands. If you're brand new to playing, you should start a little slower.

Some System of a Down songs were good for me to learn on, like "Lonely Day" for instance, that was easy for me to learn the Bass Guitar on. Not too sure about Guitar, but look into it.

Another good starter would be "Brain Stew" by Greenday. Pretty basic, gets you familiar with chords and chokes inside of some Tabs you might find while you're learning.

And yeah, make sure the other guy knows you are new. I remember learning to play, and some friends invited me to come play in a little freeform band with them... I was terrible, but fortunately they were tolerant and helped me learn a lot.
