One thing people need to note though, djent isn't a genre of music. Most djent bands can fall into prog, metalcore, deathcore, etc. But djent itself is is the style of playing. You can just listen to Meshuggah to see where this name comes from. They're the fathers of djent, and they named it that due to how their guitars sound. Over the years, the shit just blew up and got huge.

Djent is by far one of my favorite styles, and I consider Periphery among the greatest bands of all time.
