Thanks for this thread, now prepare for an uncharacteristically frivolous rant.
Music is a series of vibrations that resonate in a set pattern or sequence that invokes different feelings in people,
for some reason.
I find it intriguing, not knowing exactly what causes this, but finding out the cases where it does. I try to listen to many different genres to sort of sample, but my interest lies in the more melodic of songs.
Why does this song sound happy? What in music theory can explain why a leading tone leaves you anxious, or why resolving to a deceptive chord instills dread, sadness, or anticipation, depending on the situation alone? I don't know enough to explain any of that, but that in my opinion is why I like music.
I have a rant I keep to myself for each of my favorite songs, and why I love their effect, or how they effect emotion. I'm kind of an uninformed geek to that end, someone new to the scene who has no idea how anything works and is therefore freaking out over every little thing.
In conclusion,
I think music is pretty cool :V
