We were talking about how to gather enough people to play Secret Hitler on IRC a few days ago, but the conversation drifts off to something along the lines of this one.

So, would you execute someone for a sin that they hadn't ever committed?

By the rules of the game, yes. There will always be fascist dictators who seize power by provoking fear of the Other.

If hitler didn't commit his atrocious onslaught, the world wouldn't lose millions of lives.

But would the amount of racist people today be higher than what we knew? Just something I wondered about, it makes sense for me that people wouldn't bother thinking twice about being racist if there aren't anyone in history books to set an example on how bad someone could be for just being racist.

Does it actually make sense tho? Or is the rising of hitler-like figure inevitable either way?
