Do you guys really think its ok to let just anybody in? (49)

1 Name: FLLFFL : 2015-08-28 22:24 ID:4N73aIxy [Del]

From watching the show it was made obvious that just letting anyone into the Dollars website isn't such a good idea. I mean if it does get big, great but what kind of reputation will it hold, you know? I just don't want this group to be known for being bad or something. Maybe I'm worried for no reason but this is a really good thing we have going here I just don't want it to get ruined ya know? The password is all over the internet and I know you cant stop bad people from joining but you can stop some...cant you? Also I was thinking that since we have this new email system we can use it like the show but put or own little twist on it. Like you get invited by a friend right? Then you get an email about joining The Dollars and they send you to go make your dollars email and when you do, you get your own personal password too! It would be just like signing up for something online except you don't get to make your password. The Dollars do (like a generated password). Also say if someone were to do bad things on the forums or find out someone is getting bullied. That person would get banned or something and the email and password they made would be erased and wont be valid anymore. But couldn't they get another invite from said friend? Yes, but to counter that we could have a limit on the number of people someone can invite, so if that person goes back to his friend, he would be able to. Sorry about the rant, but I really do like this site, I feel like I'm part of this secret group where I can meet anyone. But I feel like at the rate its growing people will start learning more about it, people that we wont want in The Dollars would ruin it, and hey if they do decided to put up road blocks so bad people cant enter than wouldn't it make The Dollars more interesting? People might ask how do I get in?, who's in The Dollars, and that might get more exposure to The Dollars without having a lot of people joining, it kinda makes us even more invisible because people wont know what kind of people we are, all they would know is the rumors they hear....the rumors we make up and spread lol. Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I hope you guys can consider this idea.

First of all, reading your post was a painful thing to do because it was formatted so badly. But that's irrelevant.

I agree that the Dollars should be harder to get in than it is, but at the end of the day, this is a fan made forum. I see people role playing on here saying that their school has turf wars between the Yellow Scarves and the Dollars and it makes me cringe. This is a forum that anyone can find via Google and can bypass the password screen by adding "/main" to the end of the URL. We aren't a gang like in the anime. Sorry, but that's just how it is.

You have some nice ideas if a change is ever to be made but sadly that's only if. The creator, Reltair, doesn't seem to be making any changes to the site and when they do, it's a bug fix or something very minimal that doesn't change anything much. I would totally love to see some changes made around here... have some of the users learn some forum etiquette and maybe make it so that they realize that the Dollars from the anime are nothing like the Dollars on this forum, clean up some formatting and make it so finding old threads is a lot easier. But I don't think this site will be seeing any drastic changes any time in the near future.

I too wish it was a little harder to get in this website but honestly, if it were, our little community would be dead. We only ever see big spikes of popularity whenever the Durarara!! anime releases information on a new season or episode so we are pretty few in numbers whenever the anime goes under the radar of the media. We would be even fewer if it were hard to get into this site. That being said, that problem could be dodged if the current members are given the password and newbies have to be invited or just sleuth their way in. Whatever.

I agree with @BoyBoy , the website is a fan made forums and it's original intension was to be an open community and we should treat it as such. The login screen someone mentioned before is jist for cosmetics.

if i put it based on durarara, this site still in the phase where ryugamine mikado still don't have a significant purpose for dollars itself, and then the members take advantage of that to make other purpose by themself. until now i don't even know if the admin itself have other purpose beside just a durarara fans site.

5 Name: god777666 : 2015-08-28 23:22 ID:x/FNHQL8 [Del]

why don't you just make a polling to make this site more than just a fans site, so the admin can consider it

6 Name: Blanc : 2015-08-29 01:52 ID:sazOcHd+ [Del]

The Dollars here was initially a fan site and only a few of us genuinely take it seriously. Obviously, it would cool for recruitment to work like in the anime but that's just not going to happen. Sorry to be blunt, but it'll only work like the anime once we have an actual mailing list of dedicated Dollars, as well as various other ways of communication between us. Once we have a strong and large dedicated group then maybe a new, stronger division of the Dollars could exist? But that's not my decision, what I do know is quite a few people (myself included) want the Dollars here to take it seriously, but it's highly unlikely with the communication we have right now.

7 Name: Kyodo : 2015-08-29 01:57 ID:ofmL5Ti9 [Del]

Blanc, I see this forum as a perfectly fit method of communication. Those whose names pop up more often will be noticed, and once that happens, things will start to move the way you described them.

8 Name: Blanc : 2015-08-29 02:06 ID:sazOcHd+ [Del]

>>7 @kyodo How so? I mean we don't get notified when we are replied to or when a new post comes on. It's not communication if you're just talking aimlessly and then waiting for the person to reply aimlessly. When I say communication I mean maybe a daily newsletter, maybe a group chat, this is a forum, doesnt really function for quick and easy communication...

>>1>>2>>6 I couldnt agree with all of you more. I as well want the dollars to be real. And im tired of seeing all the trolls, and roleplaying people that enter this site because of the easy/open recruitment. I know PLENTY of members that are dedicated members, and in all honesty this site has come a long way. You think this is a fan site? Should have seen it before. And just because this site was intended to be a fan made forum doesn't mean we have to treat it like one. Ive seen more and more of us begin to take this more seriously. Please if anything we should keep our hope and maintain it through the inspiration and dreams our fellow members have. I for one have been a member since 2010 (i think) and i dont intend to go anywhere. This has the potential to be more than just a fan site. Our map, apps and email say that alone. For anyone willing to discuss, brainstorm, and share dollars related topics, dreams, and aspirations feel free to msg me at either bryluna.bl@gmail.com or sigiledhawk@dollars-bbs.email . Thank you for your time.

>>9 >>10 Let's do it then, let's make the Dollars real. I just thought that people were against because I got some hate when I made a thread just like this...

12 Name: mswag : 2015-09-01 09:07 ID:Rb94VShT [Del]

We can crack down on who can join when we're big
We'll never get there if it's too hard to join
I want the Dollars to be a real thing
With it's own identity
I feel more specific missions would help
Not just stop bullying or do something nice
If we pulled of something cool it'd get people talking

13 Name: GadgetB0y : 2015-09-01 10:11 ID:fwe8AAFC [Del]

I would love the dollars to become like they are on the anime. I think mswag's idea of more specific missions is a good one.
Also it would be good if we could find some way to make the dollars bigger and more public so we aren't just relying on people watching Durarara to learn about us. It would also evolve the site beyond just being a fan site if we could do that.

14 Name: DRIson : 2015-09-01 10:58 ID:F0VuYmCG [Del]

im with it i think it would aslo be more productive if this happenes

15 Name: Syaoran117 : 2015-09-01 11:00 ID:VYrlPZvB [Del]

I'd love for dollars to become a real think, but the question is how would we start to crack down on members? add an actual username and password? And you have to apply? And would we grandfather all the people who are regulars now? have a thread, and have people have emails there to join? It'll be a big job, but with the right time and perseverance, all is possible.

16 Name: Rue : 2015-09-01 11:36 ID:kCDCVMwN [Del]

We can't become like the dollars in the anime. There are some major differences.
1. We have members all over the world.
2. There will always be some bad people.
3. It's just an anime.
4.we are much better.

Also there so need to crack down members. While we can do many good things no one here would do something bad even if someone suggested it.

17 Name: Umbra Serpens !T1rQ1UNnww : 2015-09-01 11:46 ID:MTAXadAI [Del]

I don't believe this is something that needs to be secret. It was never a secret here, or in the anime. It's just not well-known, we blend in. And that's fine.

As far as new members go, the thing about the Dollars both here and the anime is that anyone can join. That's not necessarily a bad thing. It allows for a nice flow of new members to come in at will, and become a part of this community.

We do already filter out the bad apples though. If someone walks through the door and shits on everything, we slam the sage staff and or swing the banhammer. They don't last long.

The dedicated and more frequent members are a large part of that, and they are also a large part of keeping the site organized and efficient. Several are also leading bigger missions on the Missions board.

I agree that the Missions can be more specific, and better directed in some instances. Although since I stopped participating in those, I really don't think my opinion on that particular matter matters. Heh. Matter matters.

Anyway, there's my two-cents on this post so far, I'll hop in and out as new ideas are thrown in the mix.

18 Name: Fortune !o3hBg9PyEE : 2015-09-01 13:40 ID:6YaPWllu [Del]

The Dollars aren't exactly a secret, all-exclusive group. Anyone can join and therefore a Dollar can be anyone. Besides, the good members who post frequently usually take care of the bad apples

19 Name: Plexus-C : 2015-09-01 13:45 ID:/XSAYLh3 [Del]

We all should just overwhelm any bad people who decide to join The Dollars.. If we do start to get more recognition, we should continue to do good no matter what. We can't let a few bad apples taint our name.

20 Name: Mieppe : 2015-09-01 14:10 ID:f0wqt6av [Del]

No rules... That's it
And if only one men can choose who can access to the web site and who can't... It's juste like à boss right?
The only thing we can do is to make the password more difficult to find... If it's possible
(Sorry for my english, it's not m'y native language)

21 Name: AEvAKt : 2015-09-01 14:41 ID:OWjoLM02 [Del]

Bottom line, we just need to organize a lot better. Also, to emphasize on this point, this was just fro the fanbase and fan media. I would love this to turn into an actual thing. The only reason that, I think, it won't turn into something real is that many will find it too "corny" or mediocre. Y'know what I mean guys?

22 Name: AEvAKt : 2015-09-01 14:45 ID:OWjoLM02 [Del]

If anything, here's the website that has some of what you, were describing, and want....

Surprised I hadn't known of the site you linked before. But I have seen sites come and go. I hope this one stays. Ive seen a total of 7 sites for the dollars including yours. 4 of which are still up and 1 of which I can't access, security is tight on the last one.

The Dollars are a real thing... To the few of us who actually consider ourselves Dollars, we all have our own personal reasons for being Dollars as well as our own definition of what a "Dollar" actually is in the first place but I'm certain that all of us, at least, want to better this world in one way or another, so that's one thing that we have in common.

Some people will use this site as a fanbase, some will role-play, so be it but there are, and will remain, real Dollars among us.

27 Name: Ayumi Nakada : 2015-09-01 20:01 ID:pNxj9gPk [Del]

Anyone can be in the dollars though. We are all over the world now aren't we?

30 Name: Albatross : 2015-09-07 19:54 ID:cdNLS/su [Del]

Is there any way that we could change the website to insure that someone couldn't just enter the dollars website by typing /main to the end of dollars-bbs.org and get in without the password?

31 Name: mswag : 2015-09-07 21:07 ID:Rb94VShT [Del]

>>30 I don't care too much about who joins, but I would like to see this happen.

I asked my friend to try to get past the password screen. He was looking through the source for a while, and the only hint he needed was it has something to do with the URL to figure it out.

Yeah, but those people ruined this secret org by posting the password everywhere.. :/

36 Name: shinsen : 2015-09-08 00:11 ID:r4YZyv7H [Del]

I also think that keeping a tighter security would be good. Maybe a different password for each of us? Of course we'd have to sign up. But of course I know nothing about programming and website stuff, it might be difficult and needs a lot of effort.

Tho I don't really understand what others mean by "real dollars"? How do you know if someone is a "real dollar"? Are people who just signed up here just because they are a fan of the anime aren't "real dollars"? :?

37 Name: shinsen : 2015-09-08 00:12 ID:r4YZyv7H [Del]

I mean "joined"... We really didn't do any signing up xD

This site has been around much longer than most of you. It's had its phases.
Your security recommendations are stupid. The site is fine how it is. It's not going to get any bigger or smaller than it's ever been.

41 Name: china : 2015-09-08 17:20 ID:KKKYUivo [Del]

actually i am quite concerned about this too because this is our thing and yes it wouldnt be nice if any person could just type the password and then boom hes part of the dollars..but i dont think the site should change at all and its perfects as it is..i saw many people that didnt even know what this site meant and didnt even watch the anime but well we can just ignore these facts and go on right? i mean, whats wrong with more newbies that are curious and maybe wanna help? anyway, i dont think theres a way that we could stop all sorts of people from entering and i also kind of like that about this site..what do you guys think?

42 Name: Kasa : 2015-09-08 18:36 ID:Eod9hc6V [Del]

I get your guy's point about not wanting to let everyone in, but the problem is how would we select people? Also if we did it like in the anime and people have to receive an email to join, what about people who come on this site with no one they personally know on here? Along with that, this isn't that huge of a site right now, as practically everyone on here most likely knows of the anime. Like it's very unlikely that anyone who hasn't seen the anime would find this site. I feel like it'd just be easier and more realistic to keep it like this currently.

I agree

44 Name: Aya : 2015-09-30 12:20 ID:jTLC3xWp [Del]

I was also thinking that it should be harder to get in. I mean, looking up the password to get in feels like cheating to me, sorry if you think that I'm mean but that's what I think. If someone wants to get, thay should watch Durarara!! or something.

This is my thoughts so, sorry if offended you.
