This is still very active, if you don't want to send your phone number an alternative is to send me or ash the email you used to sign up with groupme.
Your phone number can't be viewed by anyone unless you want it and is solely so you can receive (if you choose to) texts by sms when wifi isn't active. (no costs unless your provider chargers you for texts received.)

you won't get charged, the sms option is completely optional. You normally would just use the groupme app with wifi.
You can choose to receive the messages via SMS and that is free, however replying via sms and not wifi would probably use credit.

What do you mean by texting group? Does that mean all around the world texting? like, an online chat room or something? Or is it a nation-wide texting group where only people from each country can text each other instead of having an international communication with everyone? Cause if I don't have to waste money on credit, then I'd gladly use my data for online stuff..

So like a mailing list?

Rather than having to send our email, why can you make a chat app, that requires an account, but the only info you need is your own username(password is still same as password for dollars site). To avoid login with another persons username, the app will store your username on your device, so that when someone tries to log in with a username it must match the username registered on there device. To prevent username duplication, the app itself will work like other apps that require internet connection; it will check the server to see if a new username has not been used already. Also, if the app is uninstalled, the username is erased from the server and your device, meaning that the username is now 'up for grabs' for other new dollars members. Also so that it doesnt kill the feel for the dollars theme, one must log in using the dollars password before they create their username; once the username has been created, anytime the log in on that device, they only have to login with the dollars password. This way the first thing seen when the app is opened either way is our awesome dollars login page.

I have to say isn't it more convenient to just use the chat room provided ? it's been put there for a reason you know. And to be honest I'm kinda against those mail groups cause it'll just make things kinda awkward or somewhat for anybody me included out there. Besides just like >>136 said it's better if the Dollars log-in page will be the one to greet you.. though I gotta admit some IP's are having a hard time connecting to it.. The chatroom kinda gives you your own sense of security don't ya think ?

If there was a chat web app as a part of this site, rather that a link to another unaffiliated chat room, then that would be great.
