What is the American Dream? (11)

1 Name: ns : 2014-10-05 15:16 ID:yZezm/0/ [Del]

I've been recently doing a project about the American Dream in one of my classes and I wanted to hear your opinions on the questions:
What is the American Dream? Do you think it has changed over time?

The American Dream has never changed. The American Dream is the dream of freedom and equality (somehow i don't see how this accomplished in everyday society, but whatever) It's also, like they say, "The streets in America are basically paved in gold." Our dream is to make money, become successful. i think that's the American Dream. >_<

In my opinion, the American Dream is "to enjoy the freedom to make the lives of our children better."

And no, I don't think this has changed over the years. When the Puritans came to America, they sought freedom to raise their children in the religion that they saw fit. During the immigration boom of the late 1800's and early 1900's, many immigrants came to America with the hope that their sacrifices could make their children's lives better. And even today, many people work their fingers to the bone to build a college fund for their children. I think the dream has changed its face externally, but the heart is still there.

The concept of "The American Dream" vary from each individual. Some may think it's the freedom to practice what they wish without local authorities shutting them down. Others believe it's to prosper financially and be able to make a living and support their family.

Imo-

The American Dream is to take advantage of your economic and religious freedoms in America to better your life and find success. What the individual considers bettering their life is very subjective. One person may consider success to be very rich while another may consider it having moral fulfillment in their lives. It all depends.

That's a more empowering answer. I was told that the American dream was about having a normal life. Which would involve living in suburbia, driving a nice car, wife, kids, white picket fences etc. It can make people feel very depressed not being able to live up to those standards. We have to make our own standards because we are authentic. No one way of life is just for everybody. " It all depends" on who you are.

in the end who you are or what you will become in the future is up to noone but yourself. people may try to influence you but ultimately the choice is yours.
