Saving lies or Painful truth? (21)

1 Name: Noire♚ : 2014-08-09 03:57 ID:hwT8uuD/ [Del]

So you got lied to? Okay, well, that sucks. But I've been pretty much thinking about this for a while already. Would you wanna live in a world full of lies that save you from pain or reality where you get hurt but know the truth?

So which side are you on? The real side or the masked?
Why there then?

Ugh,this is complicated.I think I'll go with the reality where you get to know the truth.Yeah, truth usually hurts, but I prefer that than living a fake life with fake people. And anyway, everyone finds out the truth behind a lie eventually.

3 Name: Rukimii : 2014-08-09 05:26 ID:nTr/wTPo [Del]

I would choose the reality.
Because living ignorantly in a world full of lies is nothing but foolishness. A world solely dedicated for cowards.

Plus, living in the world without pain, is basically feeling nothing. For example, the emotions of happiness and sadness; if one of them were to not exist, how do you know which is which?
The truth is shrouded, not because of the lies but because of the nonexistent pain.
Without that pain, just who are you really?

Reality is cruel,
so i'm sure lies are a form of kindness.
Thus, i say kindness itself is also a lie.

I hate people who lie.
So i hate kind people, i only met a few humans who don't cover the truth with kindness. Those people are worth 100 times more then the people who lie.

>>4 Hmm,I know what you mean. It's kind of sad how "kindness" goes so well with "lies".It's so hard to tell if a person is truly kind or just covers everything up with it.

I think it's not simply black and white and that there are a heap of factors that affect the situation but for me specifically I'm going with the painful truth. But I suppose that this question has a lot to do with how we affect others because when it comes to knowledge and unawareness we have to make the call for them. I think we probably won't be able to know what's best for us so which one you choose is just your approach to an answer we don't know so there probably isn't really even a wrong answer in theory when it comes to intentions. Since we have to make a call for others that could significantly affect/influence them I guess (it obviously is all based on the situation) I would leave people in the dark or not say anything. I wouldn't lie to them but I wouldn't reveal things to them either if I have doubts on the situation. If I don't know I think it's best to not affect them.

On a more personalish note I really hate being left in the dark about things. It's probably the most offensive thing someone can do to me to leave me in the dark about something "for my own good." People seem to thik it's being nice or "the right thing to do" but it really isn't. I guess people have good intentions but I just think we (humans) are just really stupid in general.
As to why I would choose the truth when it comes down to important things it's simply has become who I am and I think of it as that I've crossed a point where there's no turning back. The more aware you become the harder it is to stay ignorant and vice versa. But it's simply my opinion that the truth is more important than hapiness because I guess it's just easy for me to not care about that kind of thing. I guess you could say that I'm too curious now or have become apathetic to everything else but either way it's my top priority in this life.
Well that's all for me for now ^^

Knowing both the lies to uncover the painful truth and the truth behind the lies is something I prefer. Just come out clean, and I'm sure everyone will understand. If they don't try to put themselves in your shoe, screw them, you don't need them. But that's just my opinion. It depends on the person, I guess.

Well, i really don't know... I think I'd prefer the cold hearted, painful truth than some stupid, pretty, little lies. It's because we're living with so many lies that so many of us are so incredibly stupid. If we lived with the truth, sure people would be heart-broken, but such is life and we could quickly know how to manage things if we used our brains instead of panicking. We live on lies and people never tell us the truth, they let us to find out on our own.

But, my final decision is either both or neither. The truth can also reveal things like: the day of your death, who, why, and how someone you love would die, and many other things that we don't know in the real world for a reason. Because they're dangerous.

Anyway, i hope you got my point, have a nice day! LETAH! ^^

I think I'd agree with the idea that it's less of a black-and-white issue, and also probably contextually dependent.

Still, I'd have to say I'd prefer the truth. Seriously speaking, lying is definitely one hell of a useful tool that I have zero qualms about using at times. I just get bothered when I'm lied to. On one hand, I just think that there isn't a point in trying to live in a false and fragile illusion of safety. Of course, in this case, I'm thinking about huge national/global issues. Always tell the truth, because the repercussions will bite you back ten fold.

Of course, I'm also a greedy busybody that likes to be in the know, and I'd be immensely bothered if, or rather, whenever the govt tries to pull schtick.

On a more personal level, I still wouldn't pick white lies. I mean, even if you think that my music taste sucks or that my face is ugly, then just keep quiet about it.

I think ultimately it pertains to the value of information itself. The more valuable it is, then I think the less you should try to lie about it.

This is normally where I would end my post, but I just thought of something that happened last year. At my previous workplace (I worked in a land development company), there were two ongoing projects (specifically, two new malls in different locations in the city) dealt with by different people.

Mall A was doing well and staying on-schedule, while Mall B kept seeing delays in opening date, which was dragged from several times in October, until it finally was fixed to mid November. This is actually a really big deal. Weeks of delays in a mall's opening time would mean a shit ton of missed profits for the tenants, etcetc, and it was a serious pain in the ass.

Naturally, one would think Mall A was doing better. Actually, the truth was that in order to prevent what was happening in Mall B, the management at Mall A covered up a lot of incidents and issues that they came across during construction and continuously and persistently assured the Big Bosses that everything was going smoothly and that everything was fine.

I can neither confirm nor deny if anything subsequently happened at Mall A later, and as I'm not working at that company any more, I don't have the inside story. But it's something to think about.

I think that too much of anything is a horrible idea.
If everyone lied to each other, there'd be no closure and the world would be an insecure world to live in.
But if everyone told the truth, then everyone's hearts would be torn away bit by bit.
So in the end, honesty is a crucial fact of of life but sometimes it's best to stay in ignorant bliss.

It's no good to live in extremes. Either way would be painful, in one or the other. Is there even a right solution to that question in the first place?

Of course, there is this quote from "Miracle on 34th Street": "What is better: a truth making you cry or a lie making you smile?"

I think, if you need to tell the truth or lie - it depends on a lot of surrounding factors...it's not always easy to choose, but it should be a mix of both. If you concentrate only on one, truth or lies, that would be...cruel, in one way or the other. :)

i prefer living in a world of truth, it's not like everyone's thinking , the truth doesn't always hurt .and living in a world when you can know who hates/likes you, who's sad/happy...ect i think it's better, truths are way better than lies and we all know that

15 Name: Kanra : 2014-08-10 11:10 ID:UMYPrK3b [Del]

I'd much rather know. To me, it's the balance of good and evil that makes life worth living. To be alive you have to feel pain

16 Name: : 2014-08-10 11:32 ID:Mr27eZEf [Del]

So it's clear that we'd all like the cynicism in truths. But really, I don't think you can live banishing one or the other- it balances things out as Kanra says.

Everyone likes the sprinkle of lies as well as the truth. I guess it depends on whether it will prove to be detrimental or not. Yeah, we pick the truth served raw. But we like to be happy. And in contradiction, people are self-destructive whether it's on purpose or not. Point is, if we all lived in a world of truth only, would we be satisfied? Same with lies. You can't live without one, really.

Although, lies like 'No, I didn't eat your food.' are just part of life xD but I'd rather see the reality that I'm living than make my own.

18 Name: Ordoshsen : 2014-08-10 12:59 ID:Dbgjo6Oi [Del]

I love how almost everyone here picked "the painful truth" while living in the world which is really just a huge web of lies. Until you try and change the world, the truth is not really a choice.

19 Name: Nanami Rai !wVoPX6Dk6M : 2014-08-10 13:26 ID:+pGhyxyf [Del]

I land between. Some things should be known, other things shouldn't. I don't believe in the fact of all truth should be hidden, nor so I believe that everyone deserves to know the truth. I wouldn't want to live in the world where truth is there, we wouldn't be true humans that way. Humans are too flawed to always have truth, but we cannot always have lies. It's contradictory to want a world full of truth because there will always be lie.

I've been learning that everything will be known in time. Some things, like what Nanami Rai was talking about, do not need to be known, because the person might be too immature to react responsibly. People should know what is going on in their family's life, but some things need to be kept away, if only for a period of time.
