Foie Gras Production - Animal Cruelty (3)

1 Name: Ponyo : 2014-04-11 08:11 ID:dgYwQ1C3 [Del]

The production of foie gras  (the liver  of aduck  or a goose  that has been specially fattened) involves the controversial force-feeding of birds with more food than they would eat in the wild, and more than they would voluntarily eat domestically. The feed, usually corn boiled with fat (to facilitate ingestion), deposits large amounts of fat  in the liver

Basically i want to discuss firstly

Is foie gras production animal cruelty ?

Should the foie gras production be rated by the worst/best foie gras farms?

Secondly, what is animal cruelty ?

why is there animal cruelty in the first place?

If there are anymore topics on animal cruelty, post it here too*-*

>>1 I've heard of this before and from what I've come to understand, it isn't animal cruelty. The tubes that force feed the ducks don't hurt their esophaguses.

Sure I guess, I don't eat duck so it doesn't matter much to me.

Animal cruelty is the inhumane treatment of animals.

Animal cruelty is a touchy subject, especially for me, and it's really fuzzy in agriculture and animal produce. The system can be considered as animal cruelty but food is food, and although I believe there should be higher standards of animal treatment in the produce sector, I also understand the economic implications that it may result in.
I think domestic animal abuse is the real issue, there are many people that horribly abuse animals and nothing gets done and most people don't even get charged with fines and/or court time. I'm even acquainted with people who have shot cats for fun and it disgusts me to my very core, I can't even let my own cats outside anymore because it worries me that someone will purposely run over them, which has happened before and broke me heart.

yes it is very true that animal cruelty is very subjective in various ways, as much as people think foie gras production is animal cr Fo uelty or survival.
It might not be animal cruelty for it comes with a value as food

However, at the same time,
its like saying that going against an animals nature is the proper thing to do.

As for domesticated animals , in times of war , they might be treated the exact same way

For instance, if agriculture and trade had to be delayed and there is too much of starvation it is only normal or an intuition or instict for a human to kill for food
