so the last few days i've realized that facebook it's just... weird. i mean, everytime i watch my news feed, there's this girl that posted a photo about f*cking pizza, and it has +30 likes! all of them are always the same people, a couple of friends that i know, her family, heck, even my brother has liked her status, and he doesn't fucking know her! facebook it's like a place where people think they are popular, but in reality, they are lonely and has problems with self esteem. i don't know about you, but i use facebook just for the chat. also, i was reading this topic about ''modern zombie apocalypse'' and i can't tell you how acurate it is.
So, what do you think? =) oh! btw, sorry for my english, if i make any typo or something please forgive me.

Facebook is used for popularity reasons for most people like teenagers posting about how drunk they got last night or what they bought from the mall or what they're eating, etc., etc. but for me and many others, Facebook is a way for many people to connect. They anime community on Facebook is amazing! I've made so many friends and have been able to discuss my hobby with other people to my heart's content. I know people that I would have never met if I wasn't for Facebook, I also fell in love on Facebook.
All I'm saying is that it's a matter of perspective, Facebook connects people but it's how you connect and with who that really matters. :3

I use FB for keeping in contact with certain people who tend to not be involved in other social networking sites so it's like the only option. Fb really likes to try and dig out your personal information though. It'll pressure you to put your school and where you live. I find it more tolerable than tumblr in some regard. Sort of.

I'm not on Facebook. It's a data mine as >>12 already mentioned and I'm not a big fan. Facebook can be used to reconnect with people you know, but so can email or a phone, and only the government will be mining those methods of communication as opposed to the highest bidder.

Since all of my friends are on Facebook, they have lost most of their communication skills. They don't know how to use email or answer their phone, and trying to contact them through these methods is useless.

Now it's not possible to hide your name from a search, and who knows what's going to happen down the road. They can get away with this because everyone is addicted to it.

i do agree that facebook can be absolutely ridiculous and have absolutely no meaning. but somebody in my family is a raging alcoholic and she's had to stay in a few places all alone and the AA (alcoholics anonymous) group page on facebook helped her stay in contact with positive enlightening people. I think facebook kinda depends on who your friends are and the pages you like. with me I just like anime pages and family. :3

I don't know about anyone else, but I use facebook for my own enjoyment. I rant. I rave. I play. I post stupid stuff. I post meaningful stuff. I debate. I compliment. I have a Facebook but I only use it because I don't like using cellphones/smartphones. Basically just for chat, some university announcements and mini file sharing(lectures and stuff). I stopped going online on facebook about 2 years ago. at first i was there only for the chat. I posted once in a while something... but i stopped. I don't really like facebook, there are way too many people who are insulting each other, and many haters (way more haters than on other communities). But i like the animefans on facebook.

Facebook is what people make of it. Most of the time its used a source for bragging or bully and also stalking. Some people use it because they want to get in on what's big. Others use it to connect with friends. I personally have one but in a sense I neglect it.

it's great having to connect with other people in facebook esp. if you are far away from them (well, i use facebook in order to connect with my classmates tho) but if most of your friends are really shitty, like taking pics of what they are eating or what they are currently reading and they would have like, let's say 200 likes but their post is just so random so yeah. facebook is really about popularity. if you are popular then your post would get like a hundred likes even if it is stupid.

Keep here, Facebook to me just isn't fun..... It's easy to use if you set it up right but after awhile it gets annoying, and all the settings just plain piss me off, like when I try and change who I get notifications from it just frustrates me to no end,also to many fake people on there, same with twitter, Instagram and all those other social media outlets.
I mean if it's to help people find us sure but I think it could do more harm then good.
I say just focus on improving this site, maybe make an app that works just like this site.

I have deleted my facebook account since lastyear and in my opinion, it is something that while you have it, it dominates most of your time and attention but once it is gone, you realize it really not that important and you can live your life just fine without it.

it isnt that important and just ends up wasting your time on useless things, but i keep mine anyway since i dont like using my phone to message people, so i message my friends online. other than that it is useless and time consuming and addictive(in a BAD way) and facebook has a very ugly system of requiring too much information about you and your life. they require your name, email, phone number and all kinds of vital information about you that they shouldn't even be asking.

The popularity of facebook lives off our need for social connection by simulating it. From what I see, more than half the people friended are those that you don't make regular communication with but are nice to see 'around'; and the people you chat are normally people you have contact with by phone anyway, but then you can't blame them for not calling/texting because it's likely they're using the phone for chat in the first place... See, if they were using the phone to talk/text you they wouldn't be able to be on fb at the same time -the web taught us this afterall 'no multitasking, no win'

Facebook is quite relevant to me primarily for networking with people I know. I know every single person on my Facebook in that we've at least met and have had a couple words exchanged. Otherwise, people on my Facebook are close personal friends. I like to use it to keep track of what my peers, colleagues, and friends are up to. Furthermore, it is handy to organize people into groups as well coordinate events and invites because they are all relayed to your phone and calendar for ease and convenience. Lastly, it's a communication source that is always a viable option (if someone's phone isn't working for example) and a good way to stay connected with people you haven't seen in a long time or are separated by distance.
