SOPA has returned (Our freedom limiting once again) (57)

1 Name: Valinn : 2013-08-24 12:46 ID:X9i+5GGF [Del]

I'm sure not everyone in Dollars know what SOPA is. SO I will explain and also leave links of SOPA videos below for better understanding.

Introducing SOPA 3.0

SOPA Has Returned, Time to Kill it Again
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fTt4K4Cae4

SOPA=Copyright=Felony
http://www.complex.com/tech/2013/08/sopa-felony-copyright-streaming

SOPA Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_Online_Piracy_Act

SOPA-Copyright Censorship
https://www.eff.org/issues/coica-internet-censorship-and-copyright-bill

To simply explain "SOPA" It is a bill that the government has made to DESTROY OUR FREEDOM AND PRIVACY. If the bill passes that means NO MORE:
"DOLLARS","FAN ART", "FAN FICTION", "DEVIANT ART", "YOUTUBE", AND MILLIONS MORE ETC... AND EVEN THE WORST CASE SCENARIO POSSIBLE IS NO MORE "ANIME".
This is a VERY big deal and this is not the first time this has happened.
And whoever uploads a "copyright" on ANY website is consider A FELONY and CAN SPEND MORE YEARS IN PRISON THAN RAPISTS,MURDERS,ILLEGAL ACTIVISTS, ETC.

Even "Let's plays","Gameplays", like Pewdiepie's can be consider a FELONY.

DEFINITION OF FELONY:
fel·o·ny
ˈfelənēSubmit
noun
1.
a crime, typically one involving violence, regarded as more serious than a misdemeanor, and usually punishable by imprisonment for more than one year or by death.
"he pleaded guilty to six felonies"

We need to sign a petition to stop SOPA. The link I will put down below. Please help us regain our freedom ONCE AGAIN. We need 82,242 signatures to stop it. Currently we have around 17,700 and it's not increasing very rapidly. PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD AND SAVE OUR PRIVACY AND FREEDOM.

PETITION TO TAKE OUR FREEDOM BACK:

I have found a few more threads about SOPA in other categories, but I will paste them here along with their rightful maker.

Well I'm sure we've all heard plenty about SOPA over the last few years so I don't really need to explain much about what it does. But for those who missed out on the internet #@%$ of the year, here it is more simple. SOPA was basically the government's ban hammer on all those on the internet concerning what it detailed. Last time I remember it had to deal with music or sites. Only this time it's focusing more on, and I got links for this so sorry if I screw up somewhere. The streaming, and downloading of videos, songs, etc. Now I believe this is the 7th time they tired having this sneak past the people's noses. So keep that in mind. Here are the links

https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20130805/12472124074/administration-cant-let-go-wants-to-bring-back-felony-streaming-provisions-sopa.shtml

Now this is my first news post so I am unsure if I am allowed to leave a personal opinion on this, so please don't sage it if I'm not supposed to. Personally I don't believe in going to jail or prison for a max of 16 or 20 years for downloading a few games, music.. etc. To me this is pretty much an abomination that deserves to stamped out, again unbelievably.

Thaaaaaat's RIGHT! It's back! The 1st amendment crippling (yes, this mainly applies to the US, but can still be VERY devastating to those abroad) Anti-cyber-piracy-policing law is at it again! (like always =_=') This time, with a heavy focus on streaming of copyrighted goods, ie film, music (mostly music), and other media. Things otherwise defended as our human "freedom of speech & etc." rights for non-commercial purposes, this law makes you a CRIMINAL, for so much as putting up an AMV. As well as allowing courts to shut down ENTIRE sites for the actions of only one derelict member of said site (and oh, the playground infamous trolls might have on this, or the minefield they'll make of it) and criminally charge any members. Now, I would assume they'd have leniency on goods without copyrights in america, since the bill itself is purely patriotic, and ringing harshly in the ear of the cries of post-911 hysteria! Also ringing of corporate greed, and stereotypical conservative limericks of aiding the poor, downtrodden business man in his time of need. And what better way by defending them from their worst foe: pirates, striking at their weakest front: the cyber front. Sadly, it's noble and lofty goals, perfumed in patriotism, engages its promises via murdering the first amendment, not even just for americans, but internet denizens WORLDWIDE who are members of us-based social media, streaming sites, and potentially even artistic expression sites (artistic expression, listed as a main protectee of the bill) such as Deviant Art, anf Fanfiction.net.

So you already knew this was a duplicate, why did you feel the need to make another one? Even if this is consolidating them into one, it really doesnt solve the problem. All it does is waste more space, because more posts about this topic is going to be made, no matter how good you make your thread.

My main issue with this is that this is an US made bill, while the sites it affects are not all US based. My second biggest issue is the whole fan made stuff, people could not draw fan-art of their favorite anime characters, also with the fan-fictions, all they would be using is an idea but this could potentially kill those as well. Then there is all the other things that happen like with Youtube etc. This idea the government is getting needs to be ground into DUST. It's been stopped twice I think, and it's back again, hopefully third time is the charm.

Stop SOPA 2013
In 2012 the Online Privacy Act was brought fourth to congress to be passed which would have negatively affected everyone on the internet as a whole. The people fought back and it never happened. Several times now since then it was revised under a different title with changes and tweaks to the wording to again try to get it to pass without the general public knowing about it. Each time it was found out, and then repealed.
Here we are in 2013 and again dealing with a portion of SOPA, this time the streaming of copywritten works is at the forefront of this particular law to be. If a particular stream contains any copywritten material of any sort the uploader and creator of said content can be found guilty and automatically placed in prison for years on felony charges.
Let's end this for good
Ok so this time the internet is in BIG TROUBLE!!!! For some reason this bill of copyright is being passed on to the internet, that also includes Deviantart, and especially Youtube! So all of our OCs or any thing else we do that are based on video games, shows, ect. so once this bill is passed our OCs and anything else we do will be BANNED to the public and the internet. Not only that Deviantart will be shut down!! FOR GOOD!

This not good at all! NOT GOOD AT ALL!
Not trying to spam.

Since this thread has been bumped again, it would behoove supporters of this petition to read this as well.

The bottom line is, signing the petition isn't a bad thing, but it's also relatively pointless if you're ignorant to the matter. I made a statement about this on a thread that has since been permasaged, and the post I linked explains the information behind it better anyway.

So far nobody has acknowledged the above, despite it being posted no less than four different times. If you can't be bothered to read the entire post, to form your own thoughts, or even to read the ensuing conversation, at least pay attention to maybe the last two or three posts on the thread? Please? This is how a discussion board works.

It may say that it "is" a different type of SOPA intentions, but once you get a hold of something you want more of it (especially if it has many form to such as control and rightfully delete or eliminate things "THEY" "THINK" is "unneeded" on the internet. And slowly and cleverly they can be consuming us, but I may be wrong. Thank you for the links ^^

Please be aware of something fully instead of bandwagoning with everyone else. The more you are informed, the more you'll know whether something's an actual threat or not.

And also because bandwagoning is a sign of being a dumbass sheep. Don't be sheeple. This is addressed to all of you.

43 Name: Misuto!M4ZBq07Cs. : 2013-08-27 02:05 ID:g2bZloq2 [Del]

>>42 I didn't. The petition seemed not very thought out, hard to back up even if it gained the number of signatures, and everyone involved seems to be indiscriminate instead of giving what isn't even being considered for a bill yet due process.

Signing the petition only guarantees that the government or appropriate authorities acknowledge the cause. But read the petition again - can you tell me, from that alone, what exactly they're standing for? I sure as hell can't. They heard a buzzword (SOPA) and incited needless panic before even understanding the full story.

I won't sign something just because someone told me I should sign it. That's kind of a basic principle.

>>51 People have more or less made it clear that they won't stand for such a thing, which leads me to believe that even if they do try and make that part of the bill a law, it will be highly unsuccessful even without drastic measures. We already shot it down multiple times on that premise.

That said, technically speaking, that was a technicality based on their vague and uninformed wording of the original bill. They worded it in such a way that it overrode basic copyright laws, seemingly because they didn't understand how the internet works in the first place. By now, only the uneducated are even attempting to word it in the same way - they know they have to rework it if it even stands a chance.

The original and primary purpose of the bill is to put a damper on online piracy, and all the complaints come from the collateral that those restrictions cause. To look at it as if they want to specifically target your fanfics or song covers is hilariously wrong, and you probably need to think about their motives more before passing judgement.

Read this post, this person brings up many points and facts, showing that this is not SOPA, nor it will do anything to hurt you.

And yes, it may be from tumblr, but it doesn't make it any less valid. If you think it isn't valid, then this thread might as well not be valid, since this thread was made by just another random Internet person rather than a reputable source.
