If Earth was found flat and not round how would life be? (26)

1 Name: Neko Takahashi : 2013-05-30 20:14 ID:ucPjIcLZ [Del]

Personally I think that part of Europe and Japan would be cut off from the Earth and would become unexplored also the seasons will affect the world differently since the rotational trajectory on its axis is slightly changed and, there might not even be an axis!. But thats just my opinion...any others?

Would that mean you could touch the sky now?

Yes, yes it would.

Uhhh.. This is a *bit* obvious but:

THINGS WOULD START FALLING OFF THE EDGE!!

I don't even know what to say to this.

I think you may have given this about 1.5 minutes of thought, because, due to gravity, things tend to cluster together in roundish ways, so this wouldn't really be possible under the current laws of physics.

What do you mean by "cut off from the Earth"? Why Europe and Japan? Where does your hypothetical Earth flatten? Are you currently sober?

OH MY GOD THIS IS FROM MAY WHYYYY >>5

There's no other interesting threads to reply to. There's nothing wrong with reviving something when everything is going so slow. ;)

You're welcome.

This is a topic of discussion, but it barely holds any merit or importance... honestly I like thinking about these kinds of questions, but I'm starting to think we could do with a science board alongside technology to discuss things like this.

But that's something for the Suggestions board, and I have a feeling there'd be little demand for it. In the case that this isn't a junk thread, I do have a response :V

...

Anyway, if we assume that we can ignore certain physical laws like gravity, and just add to the hypothetical that physics simply reworks itself in a way that this is plausible, then we can actually think about it.

The flat earth theory coincided with a geocentric model of the solar system (as purported by the actual Flat Earth Society's FAQ, because they literally believe in this idea to this day), so we don't have to worry about things like the earth's rotation being changed. Everything would be more or less the same on a physical level...

Unfortunately, trying to read the rest of their site gave me brain cancer as they tried to explain things such as intercontinental travel and what lay on the edges of the world. So that's up to our own speculation for this scenario, unless someone else would like to sift through their logic.

it is flat you just don't know it.

One thing to say... gravity...

How will it not be unexplored if there is technology? Just wanted to point that out unless the whole population dies and of course no one would be able to explore it.

I imagine gravity would be messed up.

>>15 I read it. It's too late for me, the brain cancer has already set in...
I lose a little bit more faith in humanity every day. When I think I've finally seen it all, I discover a new type of human stupidity. It's rather depressing...

People would jump off... Yeah.
