World improvements thread (15)

In light of MKOLLER's Information Brokering and Dollar's Advocacy thread, I have come up with a new thread idea. Basically in this thread, we mention/discuss ideas we have about fixing problems that we see in our cities/towns or just things we notice in our town that we wish to contact out local government about. For instance, I noticed our streetlights, and I did some research and wrote letters to the Prime Minister and my local government about viable alternatives. Another example could be bringing up something about alternative forms of energy, and we discuss how we could bring it up with our governments.
Something to get the world moving for the better.

If we're gonna talk about these stuff, then yes. I noticed that only in my country, trash is everywhere. But litturally! Trashcans are mostly empty, and the trash is outside of the cans! I really hate it... The only thing i want from my goverment to do is pay attention to this. But i'm 16, i can't really raise my voice here about much things, unfortunatelly..

>>3 Same thing here. Funny thing is the city where I live has been the "cleanest" of the whole country for around 3 or more years in a row. But how come you can't do anything? Well, as I don't know where you live there isn't much I can say to help, but I´m pretty sure there is something you can do to put your goverment in action.
I haven´t made much about it yet though, as culture has been always one of my top priorities.
I have a relative who's working in the goverment's cultural branch, where I help whenever I can.
So far, we have been raising the awareness of various topics, LGBT rights (mostly LG, I have to say), abort, discrimination of any kind, etc.
So I hope to be able to help this little city more in the future.

Article related (on the subject of lighting). I've been wanting to do a government awareness thing for a while, so I'm glad someone else in the community took the initiative. There is a two part informational piece on contacting the government in the "Information Brokering" thread for anyone who's unsure of how to go about it.

So guys, trash on the streets is a bit of an issue isn't it?
Why not get a small group to give up some time (maybe once a fortnight for a 6 hours, if that) to go out and select an area to clean. It doesn't have to be anything big, but simply getting people to clean an area could soon inspire members of the public to do the same. Whether it be cleaning a park or the side of a road, it'll help make your town look good.

Also, be sure to check with your local council for the possibility of such a task.

Update on streetlights initiative;
my email went from Julia Gillard's office to the Department of Local Affairs and is now being handled by Tony Simpson MLA.
Basically, they're talking about it for now, but it appears as though it may be enacted soon, based on costs and whatnot.

It feels good to help make changes, no matter how small.

If there were someone to organize something like this where members of the dollars could work together to make the world a better place, I'd love to be a part of it.
