Will you approve my petion? (15)

I am on the brink of starting a petition to withdraw most if not all U.S military bases from other countries. The cost to maintain these bases are well over billions of dollars yearly. Most of these bases are in countries were not even at war with. What's the point in wasting so much money each year? If you agree then I will start the petition in the name of Dollars. It's only fare that I let the Dollars Community decide.

I will be making and official response in seven days.(to vote) Say yes for the petition to be in the name of the dollars. Say no for the petition not to be in the name of the dollars. Feel free to leave comments.

That seems to political to be in the name of the dollars but you can still post it and we can sign as individuals if we wish

Not to rain on your parade, but honestly if something a simple as a petition to withdraw was all it took to get the government to reconsider their actions, this problem would have been solved ages ago. It's a policy that we're so deep into at the point in time that it'll take ages alone just to reverse given a concentrated effort.

As it stands, both the reasons we do it, and the reasons we can't just retract immediately, are rooted in aspects of international policy and political bureaucracy that makes this a much more complicated problem than a simple decision. Something commonly misunderstood by people is the simple-minded idea that the US government can just flip a switch and undo years of activity in one night, and that they're just selfish for not doing so.

A petition will do literally nothing, in my opinion. A petition draws attention to an issue, and it's already very clear in the majority of the public eye and to the president himself that we need to withdraw.

As a side note, this thread belongs in the Missions board. But might as well address it while it's here.

>>4 Not to mention how many petitions and whatnot that the government likely ignores on a regular basis on most issues

I think this is a good idea, but I must too agree with everyone else here. The government making their own choices and stuff to summarize it up badly. But I would sign the petition.

A mass number of signatures would obviously make it more possible for the petition to be recognized. The ideal amount would of course be 100,000 signature because congress would then by law have to consider it. Last time I checked there are about 20,000 dollars world wide. And I'm just guessing here but I think we have about 500-800 active members. An admin would probably know better than me. But all I am saying is that we have a good foundation here to make a Big CHANGE in the world.

Once again I would like to remind people of how to vote on this. (yes or no) at the end of comments.

It's not an official mission yet because I want to seek the approval from other dollars. Until a decision has been made on this thread, there will or won't be a petition in the name of the dollars. It's up to the dollars.

Personally, I don't see an issue with these bases.

We've got bases in places like Germany, Japan, etc. and it allows a certain level of cooperation and diplomatic ties with these militaries that would otherwise be diminished or depersonalized.

This way, we have the capability to respond to emergencies anywhere in the world if we need to, plus, it significantly decreases the difficulty of reinforcement, reapply, and air support in foreign areas of conflict (although I may not particularly support these conflicts, nobody wants to see our guys left alone over there).

Plus, you'd be putting a lot of our military out of work.

If you really do plan on trying to make a difference, though, I would suggest finding and supporting an existing petition, as it is far more likely to have an impact then just starting another one.

I live in the U.S.>>1HEARTBEATSKNIGHT. READ ME!i'm may agree that some another day. I agree with taking some bases away but not all of them like 2 or 3 in each country limit. because some countries NEED TO DO WATCH and others PROTECTED. maybe the U.S. have too many and things don't always go well in other countries when we there. but we MUST REMEMBER than NOT ALL countries ARE GOOD SOME MAY EVEN NEED TO BE DESTORYED. NOT EVERYONG IS GOOD so that is WHY WE NEED TO WATCH OTHER NATIONS. cause when things go wrong in other countries someone needs to be there to save people. the U.S. put BASES ARE THERE FOR A REASON YOUR WRONG! so what if it costs us LIVES ARE WORTH MORE. we do lose a lot of our people. but they wanted to go them volunteered for that and they will not be forgotten as long as we do that they will always be with us. if anyone is ready to watch over them its the U.S. cause we already have the bases and we always volunteer to help even after we may have cause some problems too. WHAT IF THOSE BASES weren't there some countries could destroy another. did you think that? yeah we may not have a lot of money like the others. but bases are not the problem. it's the people in my country U.S. that's the problem we can be so foolish sometimes. we can hire people or make up new jobs. sadly conserving money by making are bases weak or closing some down. even dumber. now not the time to close some bases down. cause of now other countries are stirring up problems. now is not the time MAYBE sometime in the future UNTIL THEN THEY SHOULD STAY UP. WHEN I FEEL THAT THINGS WILL GET BETTER AND WE WON'T HAVE TO WORRY ANYMORE(HIGHLY UNLIKELY BUT THERE IS ALWAYS HOPE) then you have my vote. TIL then I VOTE NO!!! ( but I DO HOPE you find your followers for your "PETITION") I may not agree with you but I wanted to share my ideas with you because you need to know how someone from the opposite side to understand them and to get them on your side. your posts don't impress me or even show why your on your side. so work on that, give people a reason to say yes. K.

>>7 Listen,

It's not like the government is blind to this issue. There is literally no way they are unaware of public opinion on war and overseas troops, because the government consists of people as well. And others have made their thoughts known very prominently over the years. A little extra wouldn't do very much at all, and even if they considered the petition, again, there are a number of reasons why they just can't do it.

Besides - 100,000 signatures? There are 300 million people in the United States. 100,000 is less than 0.1% of the population.

Please don't fall into the category of people who can't see this from multiple angles. The US government doesn't act mindlessly - if this were such an easily solved problem, it would have been solved already. You must think on the reasons why it hasn't, from a realistic point of view, and not just "the government is being mean again."
