Boston Marathon Bombings (165)

1 Name: Courtney_97 : 2013-04-15 15:43 ID:R1sdImkr [Del]

When I came home from school today, the news showed a report about the bomnings that's happening durring the Boston Marathon. No reports of it being a terrorist attack, though. But still, it's just plain scary. Kind of like 9/11 all over again.

What are your thoughts?

2 Name: Inuysha97 : 2013-04-15 15:46 ID:ZYtb93D0 [Del]

I heard about that too. It's kinda a scary thought. I hope the explosions were accidental, i mean, i hope no one planned those explosions.
I'm glad though not many people died, but my prayers go out those who did and others who were injured.

3 Name: Courtney_97 : 2013-04-15 15:49 ID:R1sdImkr [Del]

On the news, it said the police looked through security footage and found a guy with many backpacks that might have been bombs. No one knows the real cause yet.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-22160978

When I got home from the store it was airing on Fox News. I'm watching it through the BBC now. Four bombs have been found; three have been detonated (one they think was detonated by police to dismantle it but do not know for sure). Between two and three dead; 22+ injured with several amputations.

The site's a no fly zone and the city is in a state of emergency. However, the White House is still open (surprisingly).

What gets me is that of the four bombs, only two went off of their own accord. I'm wondering why the other two did not and what/when they were going to be used for. I mean, the first two bombs went off within ten seconds of each other. It stands to reason that the other two should have as well, so it's strange that they didn't.

5 Name: Alice!l14UvTg4qQ : 2013-04-15 15:54 ID:olcuUMx5 [Del]

And a bomb went off at JFK Library.

6 Name: MKOLLER !YYk5m0jo12 : 2013-04-15 15:55 ID:PAx20228 [Del]

UPDATE: Third explosion confirmed as being an attack explosion and NOT a police detonation. Still looking for more explosive devices and the Mass. Governor is issuing a public statement.

7 Name: Courtney_97 : 2013-04-15 15:56 ID:R1sdImkr [Del]

Well appearently the first two went off durring the men's marathon. Maybe the others were suppost to go off durring the woman's or maybe they were supposed to be used to trick the police and get even more people injured...that is, if they were planned to go off at a certain time...

8 Name: Courtney_97 : 2013-04-15 15:58 ID:R1sdImkr [Del]

The police are not sure weather or not the JFK explotions are related or not...I hope not.

9 Name: MKOLLER !YYk5m0jo12 : 2013-04-15 15:58 ID:PAx20228 [Del]

They still have no idea. The device count is five now (three attack explosions and two bombs being dismantled by police). My guess is that they'll need to check every building in the immediate area; it's entirely possible that they'll continue to go off throughout the day.

Any opinions on who did it?

>>10 Police Commissioner Ed Davis says the next briefing will take place in two hours' time. On the possibly the explosions were a terrorist attack, Mr Davis says: "You can draw your own conclusion." - BBC News

Some people think it might have been domestic (meaning American citizens did it). But time will tell. Also, the lockdown has spread to many parts of the city now.

It's just plain sickening. Not as awful as 9/11 though, but still awful. Godbless.

My school was suppose to have a trip to Boston next week, well, a band trip. I guess it's out of the question now... but it's disgusting that someone could do that! Just sick!

17 Name: FoolishBlacky !gYwrNZJp2s : 2013-04-15 16:18 ID:VeCR0tez [Del]

I highly doubt that North Korea had anything to do with this. I mean come on, it is nearly impossible to leave that country.

I think it was probably some home grown nutjob, judging by the facts that a) almost all of the terrorist attacks on this country have come from this country and b) the Taliban and their ilk have much larger bombs than this.

"LOS ANGELES – Police in Los Angeles, New York City, London and other cities worldwide are stepping up security following explosions at the Boston Marathon.
Los Angeles County Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore says the department has opened an emergency operations center, increased patrols for transit and other critical areas including the Los Angeles Dodgers game Monday night
Chief NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said Monday that critical response teams are deployed around the city. Officials are stepping up security at hotels and other prominent locations.
British police also say they are reviewing security plans for Sunday's London Marathon. It's the next major international marathon. A London Metropolitan Police spokesman says police are working with marathon officials to review security plans." - Associated Press via Fox News

They just now clarified it as a terrorist attack. I think it was an extremist group in the US that were provocated from the increased gun restrictions lately.

Looks like you beat me to the post. Anyway, there's something I'm worried about. A lot of us were looking forward to the "Are You a Dollar?" mission today. Plenty of our members had a dollar sign visible on them today. Is it possible someone could be attempting to sabotage the Dollars?.. Still, it's just a theory of mine.

It's not a powerful enough attack to be from a powerful well known terrorist attack. My prayers go out to Boston, they still aren't sure what's going on.

31 Name: Vincent : 2013-04-15 17:32 ID:5wWOaXiR [Del]

I heard about it. People hurt...people loosing limbs; it ain't a typical day for many people to say the least. I wouldn't dare compare it to 9/11 though. Who knows what it was...I wouldn't bother getting scared over nothing. Its not like there's anything you can do about it but stay out of the way.

Casualty total is up to 88 with more being identified. Because of evacuated buildings (including hotels) there are also many displaced tourists.

My friend's dad was running in the marathon. Luckily he and my friend weren't hurt but my feelings go out to all the people that were affected by the bombing.
I'm lucky that I didn't end up going to watch the marathon.
Way too many horrible things have been happening these past two years which makes me really disappointed in people...

Just another symptom of how sick humanity is. Why do people do shit like this?

35 Name: Vincent : 2013-04-15 17:36 ID:5wWOaXiR [Del]

As for it being a foreign terrorist attack: extremely unlikely. Worst case scenario is that its a person (or group of people) who just want to "keep the wheel spinning". A terrorist attack at a supposedly important event would catch the most attention; that's what they would want.

As far as the dollars go, it's very apparent that there's nothing we can do other than reassure other people and keep each other posted. I can't wait to learn of what investigators discover. Foreign...or domestic terrorism?

Screw that, who ever is near the area they held the bombing go help out with the clean up or go visit the hospital and show the injured some compassion. I know that won't be many people but we can at least TRY.

That's exactly what I mean. Accept that there's little we can do. Don't go all "Dollars are here to save the day!" like a little child. If you want to make a difference, don't get too excited. Keep your wits about you. If you're lucky, you may be able to help later on. Sit back and wait for an opportunity.

About the Boston Bombing news, My opinion is...
The person who do it must in insane, 'cause that very irrational when you bombing with in the name of God. Just like a Jihadist. Make Moslems were sick when they heard the news like this. Why the terrorists compassionless with the victims? And makes many enjoyment for themselves.

I know there are a lot of you that want to do something about this. But let me make this clear, the bombs have already gone off. There is no way we can save anyone from explosions. What has happened can no longer be prevented. At this point, the best we can do is share any information relating to this we can find. Whoever is responsible for this needs to be tracked down. It isn't our job to witch-hunt away for a culprit, but what we can do is report anything abnormal. If you were in the area at the time, and remember anything that seemed out of place, or if you happen to stumble across anything that could link, just let us all know. Playing detective and poking around the crime scene is none of our business.

I don't think this was pointed out but, the bombs were set to detonate 10 seconds apart from each other to maximize any casualties. Since the first bomb that goes off would send people running in the opposite direction, the second would detonate to catch those trying to run away. At least, thats the reasoning that I heard on the news, which implies that the bomber actually knows what he/she is doing. Either way, the only thing we can and should do is hope for the best.

>>77 The Boston Marathon is still a major event that attracts American spectators across the country and some foreign spectators as well. Sure, it wasn't as big and as disasterous as 9/11, and the death toll is no where near as high, but the point is we [Americans] don't get much organized terrorism, and 9/11 and the Oklahoma City Bomber are all we really have to compare this to. And since many are assuming the bombing was done by foreign terrorists, it's being more compared to 9/11. So yes, it will remind us of 9/11. The confusion, the panic, the blood. The fact that people thought it was an accident at first, until the second bomb went off. Sounds familiar?

And what's sadder is how people further away from the finish line thought the sound was that of fireworks before they saw the smoke and the bodies.

Here's something written by CNN just a few hours ago:

"e Boston Marathon is the world's oldest annual marathon, dating back to 1897.

It's a tradition that not only symbolizes the arrival of spring in Boston, it also marks Patriots Day -- which commemorates the day of the opening battle of the Revolutionary War.

Each year, more than 20,000 pound the pavement through the winding streets of Boston as thousands of spectators cheer them on.

After Monday's tragedy, some wondered whether the spectacle would ever happen again.

"The Boston Marathon has endured two world wars and many other things," said Fred Treseler, who has helped train more than 3,000 athletes for the race.

"I am quite sure there will be a Boston Marathon next year. But for certain, the Boston Marathon has been changed forever." "

You're an absolute cunt.

I don't know if this has been said yet but I'll say it for the rest of this thread:
Death isn't a competition.
You don't compare a tragedy to another tragedy by the number of fatalities and say that you should feel less guilty for one than the other. They both result in the loss of innocent human life. There is no ranking, no rating, no contest. All death like this is completely and utterly awful. If you don't feel the same so be it, but right after a time of crisis and at the start of a time of mourning is not the time for you to go spouting your own indifference.

It's a terrifying event not much different from the 9/11 attacks. Many people were wounded, some were killed, even runners were hurt in the process. As far as I know, there were three bombs. Two went off, one was found and defused. I'm hoping that those who were injured may recover quickly, and may those responsible pay dearly for the harm they've caused.

Anyone trying to blame a certain group is stupid. You can be sure that it was an act of terrorism, but you must also remember that "terrorism" does not define who the terrorists are.
For anyone here who doesn't know what's going on, you need only look at any news article about the subject. I ensure you, they are easy to find.

I just read an article about this (i knew about this before i read the article) and apparently, they used a pressure cooker to help with the bomb which is weird but in a way i guess it makes since. Also each explosion was 11 seconds apart.
According to Defenbaugh, it was "undoubtedly a terrorist attack." which is true because the definition of a terrorist is somebody who wants to inflict terror so, it was pretty much a terrorist. Nobody accidentally bombs things. But it would be dangerous to say what cultural or ethnic group did it.

Although, something like this is always a big scare in my area, especially because everyone is at most 30 minutes away from a big military base in the county. There have also been a lot of gun threats at the middle and high schools here. One day I came to school early and the principal was out in the hallway telling everyone to sprint into the cafeteria and even later, into the custodian's closet and the locker rooms, because of a fake gun threat some girls posted on Facebook just because they did not want to go to school a day before.

Anything around here involing explosives or mass shootings is always scary when people hear news about it here. Right now, they are currently telling people to be alert when visting, or being near the military base

It really is terrible, the people in that race weren't part of any big company or anything. They were just average citizens. When I was young, they found a bomb outside my elementary school. It wasn't working properly, so I guess we were lucky. Still, I feel bad for all those who were hurt in the bombing.

I honestly doubt that this was an act of foreign terrorism. It had to had been a mentally ill American. This even goes to gun control ironically. The USA should have more thorough background checks, and not alow those who show signs of withdraw or agression to have the opportunity to easily recieve lethals. The issue will continue if action is not taken.

>>107 True, about having background checks, but purchasing a bomb from your local bomb salesman is normally not the way most domestic terrorists make weapons. For the OK City bombing by Timothy McVaugh(?), I remember reading that it was a fertilizer bomb. Also, for the Unabomber(you can look that one up), the man literally just made bombs and sent them through the mail to explode. Point is, creating a law that limits something already treated as illegal and dangerous to society won't do anything. Action>legislation, like reporting suspicious activity.

And if afterwards, you still think the hype is too much, don't forget about the injured. Those people don't just have scrapes. They ain't dead, sure, but their fucking LIMBS ARE MISSING. That still qualifies as injured. Sorry they didn't specifically say "this number of people are missing legs, this number of people are missing arms, this number of people are missing feet, this number of people are missing fingers, and this number of people have head injury from hitting the pavement."

America is currently:

- Trying to figure how the hell North Korea plans to start a nuclear war with us.

- Trying to avoid a lawsuit by Canada of over 900 million dollars a year, starting the end of May, because American meat industires are labeling which meat is local and which is imported.

And now, an act of terrorism- which I will call it now and say it's foreign, because when it comes to bombings, our domestic terrorists go after government tax buildings and maybe police stations, because, apparantly, that's where all the illuminati and Jews live...(Sarcasm intended people)

Don't trust the main stream media, go look up the event on youtube, watch interviews of witnesses, see that there is something going on here that is not caused by extremist Islam or North Koreans or any other bogey man. See that the people in charge of our nation are the bad guys.

Point of discussion for this thread: "What are your thoughts?"

Some people believe it's white supremacists continuing their recent spree of violence. Possible, but I feel this is rather unlikely.

And for the North Korea sentiment: North Korea's pretty psychotic, but they're essentially incapable shut-ins screaming at the world and shooting through their own windows at the neighbor's house. It's probably more likely that the bombers are reading this thread right now than this is any sort of organized from North Korea. Plus, if they did it, they'd be holding marches to their clear and godlike superiority to the rest of the world.

Here's what I'm seeing from this FBI press release.

They've found a battery, pieces of a pressure cooker, and collected much of the shrapnel. They found one of the circuit boards from the bombs and suspect at this time that the device was detonated remotely by a cell phone and are reviewing phone records trying to isolate any calls that may have triggered the blasts.

They found the second casing, which they say could possibly be another pressure cooker, but they're not certain. Shrapnel includes nails, BBs, and ball bearings.

Still no arrests yet.

136 Name: Kay : 2013-04-17 17:42 ID:xUD28k6F [Del]

Looks like the official injury count is 176, and 3 dead. There have been at least seven amputations, and a number of severe injuries. This numbers have likely been adjusted from the earlier 250-300 to discount people with scraped knees and such. These were shrapnel bombs, so while there are only three dead, yes, people are missing body parts, and a lot of them are hurt pretty bad. You cannot discount the damage here and write this off.

From CNN, it seems the FBI is looking into the suspect believed to have been wearing a light colored hoodie, a black jacket, and backwards white baseball cap.

They haven't discounted the possibility that there were timers involved.

Authorities have claimed 'significant progress'.

These bombs were of similar construction to bombs found in the Middle East, but are common and well known, and could literally come from anywhere.

I hope they catch the perpetrator soon, I heard some place was evacuated because of an unattended backpack. A lot of people, not just in Massachusetts are worried about this now. On another note, the one who set off the bomb didn't aim for those who finished first, but instead some people who came later. Do you think they were aiming for someone specific? Or was it just a fluke?

"Kind of like 9/11 all over again."

I don't agree with this, and I highly disagree with this statement.

The fact that you compared it to 9/11 shows how the US Media likes to keep the public scared.

Firstly, we have no idea if this was domestic or foreign terrorism, or who was targeted, if anyone.
Secondly, the toll is alot lower, and medical personnel had a much easier time getting to victims and saving others.

This attack is just another example of the world slowly falling apart. Until an arrest has been made, we cannot be sure of why this was done.

So please, don't compare it to 9/11.

In addition, terrorism only works if those affected are in fear after the event has occurred.

If the bomb was a scare tactic, it probably didn't matter when it went off, as long as a lot of people were around, and if the bomb was meant to kill as many people as possible, that'd also be best when the most people were around.

At the point the bomb went off, the street was pretty much filled with competitors, as opposed to a few coming in at a slow trickle near the first place racers.

It's possible the bomber simply detonated the devices remotely when the most people were around, or (less likely, but still quite possible) simply looked up the average time it takes to complete the marathon and set up a timer to detonate it when the bulk of the runners were going by.

Or, they could have a random or completely unknowable motivation for doing what they did and when they did it, but these are my guesses.

The bomb detonated within a 10 minute window of when the most runners (on average) cross the finish. It's quite probable that whoever set this up simply wanted to injure or kill as many people as possible with no specific target.

As of about 8:41 PM EST, the remaining suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was taken into custody. It looks like this is finally over.

This week has been absolutely miserable. Knowing this is resolved takes a huge load off, and hopefully Boston, Watertown, and all surrounding communities can continue with life as normal again. As a kid who lives in Texas but has lots of family in the Boston area, I want to thank all the crews that worked together to apprehend Tsarnaev. I can't possibly thank them enough.

Whew. Done.

I feel bad for Dzhokhar.I don't think he really wanted to kill or had a thirst for blood. His brother influenced the poor guy and caught him up in a web of insanity that really can't be helped. The things he did were wrong, but whenever I read about his past or his Twitter, Dzhokhar just seems like a normal teen.Yes, an obnoxious and naive one, judging by his Twitter, but still a normal person.

His brother, Timbaland/Tamerlan Tsarnaev was just crazy. Not only a complete hypocrite, but also a racist. Not to mention, giving ignorant people in the US the option to start hating on Muslims again.I'm not even Muslim (I'm a Buddhist), but it is strange to see how many people hate them just because they assume something.Yes, they had a rough past and some of the things written in the Quran are controversial and just dark gray in the morality meter, but the same goes for the Bible, which is basically the world's best selling book. They've both changed their policies and even if I don't believe in them, I won't get in their business.

Don't start wishing that they'd kill him or maim him or anything. It'll make you just as bad as him.Besides, we'll need his information to know why his brother even started this disaster.Honestly, when I see things like "Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.... GET FUCKED. By americas dickkkk." on Twitter (Not gonna link it), it bothers me.I'm as happy as everyone else here, if not happier, that the crimes have stopped, but don't stoop so low as to become the same thing you hate.

This quick apprehension of the two men was a great way for the government to show terrorists that they will deal with these matters swiftfully and harshly. Hopefully Boston will recover soon, but we will never forget those who were lost in the explosion.

If he didn't want to hurt people, he wouldn't have actually fired shots out of that fucking boat he was hiding up in, or even run from the cops after his brother had died.

If it WAS all really because of his brother, the moment he died he'd have handed himself over in some way, not run from the law and shoot at them when they closed in. Which he did.

He is as crazy and deserves whatever punishment he gets. It's as simple as that.

While this isn't much of a current topic, I'll go ahead and humor you guys with a little comment |o|

The first thing my cousin said was, "This is all a ploy! Obama did this and is going to blame it on North Korea so he has an excuse to start a war!"
