Hurricane Sandy Victims (17)

I know that Hurricane Sandy has been in the news a lot lately, but I feel like it isn't really being acknowledged as the disaster it is. Lots of people are out of power, or completely homeless. Many people have died, and bodies are still being found. Staten Island in particular is destroyed. Huge parts of the Jersey shore are completely gone now.

I don't know if there has been something related here on the BBS. I haven't seen anything, but maybe I've just missed it. In any case, it's on main now. I could've put it in either missions or news, but the fact that I haven't found anything on it leads me to believe it belongs here on main. I'm honestly very sad that there hasn't been more news about it here.

So please, give Hurricane Sandy, and the hurricane victims, some of your attention! This is something that we need to be aware of. As Dollars, we need to be informed about these kinds of events.

I can giver some firsthand experience here. I live in Southeast Pennsylvania. The storm started here around 11pm Monday, October 29th, but the clouds came in late Sunday morning. I lost power at approximately 8pm Monday night. We were without power until 3pm today, November 1st. My house was cold and damp. Luckily, my Dad(my parents are separated) did not lose power, so I went to stay with him until today. We have the power back, but we have no running water. Something's wrong with our sub-pump.

There have been alot of car accidents and accident related deaths around the area because of stop lights without power. Before my power went out on Monday, there were approximately 100,000+ people in Eastern Pennsylvania alone who did not have power. There are still thousands of people, even around me, who have no power at all.

9 tree's in my father's yard collapsed. All of them were very tall and old, and one barely missed the pool. The roots just tore right out of the ground. There are now 2 holes in what was once a natural fence.

So yeah. That sucked. I have never gone that long without power(insert computer addiction joke here), not being able to take a shower or even wash my hands. We couldn't flush the toilet. It was just bad, personally. I'm sure other's, especially closer to the coast, had it worse than I did.

I'm in southern New Jersey and Sandy passed exactly over where I live. We were incredibly fortunate for how well we fared, but there was a lot of preparation here beforehand, most likely because of how bad we were hit by that June derecho. Resevoirs were drained ahead of time to prevent flooding, and there were a number of electric/utility trucks out just before the storm which I can only assume trying to back up our grid. The June storm left some people without power for 2-4 weeks... D:

This time around we had 2.3 million power outages in New Jersey (compared to New York's 2.3 million power outages)... We have a couple of coastal cities cut off from civilization (the governor, typically the bad guy, had done everything right this time, andhad announced evacuations in these areas that were practically in the ocean anyway... The mayor of one such city countered this order, and thousands wound up stuck... -_-). I saw today they still haven't gotten around to turning off the gaslines by the shore because no one can get to them, and the stuff is just pumping out onto the street...

It is great for you posting this on main and I hope the storm wont have a lot of casualties.
I for one, know that once the storm dies and everything settles, that local C.E.R.T., C.A.P., Air/National/Coast Guard, Firefighter, Law enforcement, and many other volunteers will help with the reconstruction and funeral services. I plan on going to help out my self when i get the chance. Any other dollars member wish to do so as well, it would help out a lot.

I have heard how bad it was and still is in other parts of my state. I don't know anybody personally who died but I feel so bad for their families.

Yeah, I have a friend that lives in the Rockaways (Pretty close to the beach) And her home was pretty badly ravaged. Its a real shame that all of this happened.

I live in Manhattan uptown and seen New Jersey explosions and heard and seen many people with problems from my old school. It was pretty bad but people are helping more than before. Recently on the news someone wasn't transferring the money and they just recently got caught for faking construction closing areas down. It was pretty big but I'm sure you can find the article. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfrsOVZDRWQ I seen a more info news report but I can't find it right now but this is what happened recently.
