It has been officially decided that June 19th is our Dollars Day. Now, we are trying to decide what we are going to do and where we are going to do it.

It has been agreed that we will try to have two major offline meetings. Those who cannot attend will be able to host their own smaller meetings. (A public calendar and map will be provided once more details have been settled.) We will also be having online chat parties, though we have yet to determine which site/program will we have them on.

Some options for the chat parties? IMVU, Skype, Gaia Movies, etc. The DRRR chats are too small and uninteresting, we feel, and want something with a better atmosphere, but feel free to give your input and suggestions.

We will most likely have the Eastern offline meeting somewhere in England or the Phillipeans, since those two areas are where our members are the most centralized. Unfortunately, our Eastern memberbase is very spread out, so we may have to settle on two meetings there or a meeting inbetween the most populated areas. We need to discuss this meeting quite a bit more.

We will most likely have the Western meeting on the east coast of the US. Right now, we are trying to choose between Washington D.C. or NYC (feel free to give other suggestions, though). Both provide several outdoor and indoor attractions without entry fees. Feel free to research more. Washington D.C. has various gardens and parks as well as museums; attractions here open early, however, most of the parks here close at around 5PM. NYC has various museums and also has Central Park, and the attractions usually close between 8PM and 9PM, but open later.

We need to decide other events and such that we intend to do on this day, both online and offline. Please give all of your suggestions.

Keep in mind that we are going to stick with things that are free. Again, the date is June 19th, and this thread is specifically for discussing the details of what we are going to do on Dollars Day.

Although those are nice big cities for a meetup wouldn't it be better to have it in a place more in the middle of America so it's not as far for people on the other side of the country.

Hmm...I feel it would be easier to get a huge group together in New York City, though my personal bias is tempting me to vote DC (I live pretty near there). Still..yeah, NYC.

Theoretically, if we were hosting one of the major events in NYC, would it be good to meet up, say, in Central Park and going on from there? Might be an obvious question, but I feel like tossing a few more pennies in here.

I realize that those are the big cities in America but they are way over on the coast of the country, people over in California may not be able to get that far. A better place would be in the Mid-west region of the states like Nebraska or Kansas.

Personally I know a great place to meet up in Iowa, and it's huge with a few Pavillions that can be rented out for that date.

For those of you who don't know, the Manhattan section of NYC where we would be is technically a small island. You can only access it by boat, car, or train.

I just want to give you all a disclaimer: I'm not trying to disown our lovely latino members. The majority of our memberbase is in America, so we knew we would have to host one of the main meetings there. We tried to do it more south, but it didn't work out. Unfortunately, it may be quite a big inconvenience, so if you would like to host your own convention for those south of the border, please tell us so.

Speaking of which. Regarding the meeting in the East. Should we have one in the North-Eastern hemisphere and one in the South-Eastern hemisphere? We have a large memberbase from the north-western area of Europe and another large memberbase from the phillipeans. They're both so far away, I'm not sure if it would be OK in any way to tell either base to go to the other. On one hand, we can put it in the Phillipeans and have the European members come to the American meeting, but on the other hand, I still don't approve of making people fly over the Atlantic for such a short meeting :|

As for the meetings, I'm not able to make it to D.C., or NYC. I'm in Texas, and can't afford an airplane ticket, so I guess I'll be stuck on an online chat. :/

I suggest for those who can't make it to the big meetings to have their own localized meetings, if they happen to know fellow Dollars in their area. Just a thought.

That, or if we wanted to go all-out, we could have something like the others were mentioning where the meeting has to have a sort of dress code.

To be honest, though, I don't think anything is necessary aside from telling your username (and, if you're worried someone may pretend to be you, remember your tripcode or just maybe email us privately with a code or something you'll have to say when we meet offline).

We're all going to be meeting at the same place, so it should be easy to see a big group of people and know it's us. Plus, it would probably be amusing to have some of those crashers who randomly join the crowd and play along lol The dress code would ruin that chance.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm in the Midwest. If there is going to be a meeting for Eastern and Western Dollars, shouldn't there be one for the Midwest Dollars?

Define "Midwest".
The Eastern Dollars are those in the Eastern hemispheres(Europe, Asia, etc.), and the Western Dollars are those in the Western hemispheres (the Americas).

The point is, this is a once a year event, and we really don't have enough members to host six major meetings, you know? If you can come, you come. If you can't come, you don't, and either hang out in the chats, on BBS, or host your own smaller meeting for those in your area.

Alright. We can see that the majority has agreed on NYC. The question has been open for long enough. Therefore, we will continue the thread with the assumption that we're going to NYC for the Western meet-up until otherwise noted.

The follow questions need to be addressed:
1. Where are we going to meet up?
2. When are we going to meet up?
3. Dollars Day is on a weekday this year, so should we meet up exactly on Dollars Day, or should we meet up the weekend before?

I have more things we need to discuss, but those depend on the answers to these questions. Well, give me your suggestions, guys.

Here are my own suggestions:
1. Central Park. I think we should also end back up in Central Park after our escapades (if we have any escapades :V) so that it's easy for people to be picked up.
2. I would want to meet-up really early so we could spend the rest of the day with our fellow Dollars and then end pretty late. So, like 11-9 would be my idea. (I would like it earlier, but most of us don't get up that early, so I thought that 11 would be late enough yet early enough.)
3. I think we should just do it on Dollars Day. There are a lot of downs for those of us who work or have family members (who would be our usual rides up here) who work, but on the other hand, NYC will be a bit less crazy on a weekday.

Also, I would like to take a bit of a poll:
If you're coming to the NYC meet-up (even theoretically if you don't know yet), how would you get here? Train, taxi, car, or bus?

1. I agree, Central Park would be a great place to meet, but we need to decide where in Central Park.
2. 11-9 sounds good, given that it could be extended for those who wish to stay out later.
3. On Dollars' Day, if it's a weekend we're going to lose a lot of people. It's just too busy and most of the prices tend to rise a little, including the price of getting to NYC.
4. Amtrak, all the way.

Regarding the offline meetings, if we're going to have a lot of people come to big meetings, we have to choose places officially and make sure it's organized for the sake of the safety of and simplicity for those attending. We can't just say, "Oh, cool, let's have meetings!" and then not discuss it further. Plenty of people want to have an offline meeting, and that's why we're having them, whether we have chats or not.

I really like the idea of having it in New York. ^^

My idea is this:
We all meet in Central Park, at a particular bridge or statue or something (to be decided later) on Dollars Day.

From some time in the morning to a certain time in the afternoon, we hang around there and wait for everyone to arrive. It will take some time for people to get there, depending on where they are coming from, and their mode of transportation, and of course there will be people who are running late and those who might get lost (hopefully not many).

We can use the time we are waiting to get acquainted and plan our day. This part should be a lot of fun.

Then, sometime in the (probably early) afternoon, when we've gathered a good amount of people, we all take off for adventures elsewhere in the city.

As for the adventures themselves, they could be anything from going to a public event, visiting tourist traps such as times square, or going off the beaten path and finding activities that maybe fit a common interest. It's a big city with lots of possibilities.

We may even, once we get closer to the date, be able to plan some altruistic activities, if we wish... Something unique and Dollar-like. But I'm getting ahead of myself here.

This is just my idea of how a nice Dollars Day would work out. I really want to know what you all think of this though, so please give feedback!

I think this is a great idea! However, maybe we should divide the western meeting into two different locations? Possibly even three. One for the west coast, one for the east coast and possibly one for the middle states. We are a big country. Since I live on the west coast, I'd suggest meeting in San Francisco since there is so much to do there. Maybe even LA or Sacramento.

Wow... I'm pretty late on the news, huh?

So, I have some suggestions to take into account: You kinda have to know the age of most of the members that join the public meetings (obviously).

As for the online meetings, most people would prefer IMVU. The problem is; not many people's CPU's are optimized for that type of program, producing lag. Leaving the only reasonable choice to be Gaia Movies.

For the chat, I would prefer using skype ^^. It's really good for group chatting, or even calls. Actually, why didn't we make those chat-parties more often? Personally, I love chatting with people, especially from Dollars, but I think that the "drrchat" is not really suited for more people than 5, because when you are chatting, it becomes a mess Oo. So, If anyone has Skype and wants to chat with me, I would be glad ^^ My Skype is: "maya.ellen" btw :).

Skype's the best one of them, it has group chat, conference calls, and all the features you would ever need... well, except group video, you have to pay for that. Second Life is ok, but the problem is, it's hard to signup for it out of the "supported countries", IMVU is just bad, and gaia is not really made for chatting... it won't work well with big groups.

I think Skype is the best bet right now. The download doesn't take up much time or space on you computer. Also, I believe you only have to pay if you want a premium account (don't ask me what comes with it because I don't know). And as stated before, it lags the least out of all the other chats.

I think for a meeting in England the first assumption for a city would be London. However when looking at the posts from the UK dollars thread there seems to be quite a lot of dollars in northern England so maybe a meetup place halfway like Manchester or Birmingham would be our best place to meet? If we're going to be having food, we're going to need an area where we can picnic out at every meeting. Central Park should be easy, but I don't know if they have grills (if we choose to need them), and if they do, I don't know if we'll need to rent them out. The same thing goes for every other meeting. We'll have to keep that in mind.

If we stay for several days, we are probably going to have to put together some sort of hotel system, perhaps even have everyone rent out rooms at the same hotel or hotels nearby so we can use similar forms of transportation and make sure everyone gets there safely. Having it for several days may be possible, but we can't gurantee that people can stay all three days, and if it's too spread out with who's coming on what day, we may end up having just three extremely small meetings.

Keep in mind that the majority of our members are younger and aren't going to be able to stay in a city away from home for three days.

Also, if people have already spent so much money coming here, money for food will be nothing compared to the cost of a hotel room in any of the major cities we'll probably be hosting these meetings in. We'll probably have to choose hotels outside of the cities and then take train there, in which case we would need to make sure everyone understand the train schedules. Even so, having the cost of a train six times a day for three days /plus/ the cost of the cheaper hotel would still be a waste of money.

Don't mind my organization ranting. This is just a preview of all the other things we would have to work out were we to go with your suggestion.

Unfortunately, I can't see too many up-sides to having it for three days, but I may be missing something. Opinions?

One thing could be, you find camp-grounds (and I'm sure they would have it somewhere, were the majority of us will be at.)

In most cases, camp grounds are very cheap, and/ or free to use. So if a lot of us brought tents (or say if they had it, RV's) then we could very well set that up.

Then, we'd have a place to stay at, as well as a place to stay at. Which will save many a lot in money.

Now, 3 days would just give you more time than a few hours one day, to get to know people you've been talking to online, more or less, for longer.

The donations thing is the major issue. We would need a save place to STORE this money, trusted people, and a good list that we can follow, to help KEEP this money in check.

One thing to help lessen the load, would be for each person to at-least bring 1 food item, or anything on along those lines. If they can, more would be better.

This way, that is less we have to spend that on, and then that would be more spent on the over all day(s).

It runs, but it's not a video chat. Just an MMO, Forrasy and I, created. It allows you to go on, kill each other, and talk. By the time this day rolls along, it should be even better.

Whew I made it to the end. And now my quick suggestion (and reason behind it):

I think that leaving the option open for both IMVU and Skype allows a bit more flexibility. Although having everyone in one group would be ideal (to which I have no objections), narrowing it down to these two would alleviate some of the complaints some may have, and also gives people a bit more room to read the posts before people continue sending out their responses.

Alright, just finished reading the whole thread. And its very obvious that no one had offered to take the lead in deciding where exactly in the Philippines will the meet up occur. So I'll start with my suggestions regarding this then.

There's just gonna be two options to go with (imo), either in NCR or in Cebu City. NCR from Luzon and Cebu City from Visayas. I've noticed from the countries board that most are from Luzon, so NCR would probably be a lot more ideal in terms of getting a higher number of participants for this meet-up but its gonna be damn hard for people from Visayas and Minadao to travel to NCR unless they'd go by plane. But since a lot more could go to NCR instead of Cebu City, I highly suggest to have it there instead; while people from Visayas and even Minadanao could have their own small gatherings or just join the online meet up.

Now the problem is where in NCR exactly. I'm not much familiar of good places to meet up with in NCR 'cause I'm not really from there.

But anyway, that's my opinion. To sum that all up, I vote for NCR aka Metro Manila.

So people, if you want this decided, speak up already.

We agreed to do free activities earlier. We're not paying almost twenty dollars just to go to a meet up spot. Alright after reading everything, i believe we should meet up a tad bit up of the Ramble in Central Park. Reason: it is close to the boat house, so we can spot it easily, but not too close to mix with alot of other crowds. It is closer to the center for easy access for everyone, and it is insanely close to 79th St. Traverse.

We also need a time, and I vote from 1pm-6pm total and we can start setting up around 11am.

There are gates at certain entrances into the park, as well as entrances to certain attractions within the park. For example, the gate we would meet for the Zoo would have been Lehman Gates. Check centralparknyc.org/ for more information regarding the various etrances.

Again, I feel your plan is too complex for this. We're just meeting up here. If you have to have pictures and maps to explain the path, it's too much.

Since nobody else seems to understand what I mean, allow me to just give my own input already. I think we should meet up at Merchants' Gate, which is the southern-most entrance to Central Park. Although it is popular, it is the easiest to get to for those of us entering at the southern end of NYC, which will be most of us. There are food kiosks, which give us an easy option to get food if we decide against doing a picnic-type thing. We obviously won't stay right here as the crowd gets bigger; we will move elsewhere, whether it be in Central Park or in the city. We'll get to that once we get this part down. I think we should meet early, maybe between 8-10AM, to beat the lunch crowd.

Regarding times, I think we should start early and end late, maybe 8AM-8PM. We'll have a thread that day that we'll update with where we are every hour or so. That way, people who couldn't there earlier can still meet up with us. The people who want to leave earlier can just leave, and those who want to stay later can stay with us. I think we should have leader-shifts set. Someone has to be the representative of the group, and maybe the shift would change every four hours. So, throughout the day, there would be three different leaders/reps (that way, the rep wouldn't have to stay the whole twelve hour day).

Well, if we're wondering where to meet up in Central Park, how about the part of the park in front of the Museum of Natural History? I mean... the museum is a good landmark for everyone to locate, and meet up at.
But there's specific places within the park we can meet up at too. Like there's the Sheep Meadow; which might be a good idea since it's a big open field-ish place.

LOL well I dunno for sure because despite living in NYC, I've only been to Central Park once ^ ^;;.

I just know that the museum is a very well known place. And in my experience, using landmarks help a lot when it comes to finding a place to be.

One con of meeting there, is that the part of the park in front of the museum is trees with a pathway. I mean I'm sure there's probably some resting area nearby, but not a lot of space if you're expecting like hundreds of people.

That's why I was thinking about sheep meadows because it's a big open space. hence the word "meadow".

Anyways, to be honest, asking questions like "is there an entrance" is kind of invalid. Central Park is a huge ass park that doesn't really have an official 'entrance' or at least, I don't think it does. If someone plans to go there, they just go in, and walk to wherever they want to go.

Yes, there are official entrances into Central Park as well as into specific attractions in the park itself. They're called gates, as I already explained earlier.

Okay, so basically, based on info from the links, Sheep Meadows is a 15-acre field that can admit about 30,000 people there in the summer. I don't know how many Dollars members might come and how many civilians will be there, but I'm pretty sure there'll be enough room for everyone.

It's located in the southwestern-ish area of Central Park. More specifically on West 67th Street, New York, NY. I researched a bit, and I think you enter through Columbus Cirlce (which is at 59th st and 8th ave), and walk from there. You can take a bus (M20) part of the way (but for like half of the way).

I don't know what we'll be doing at this meeting, but I'm pretty sure we can do almost anything at Sheep Meadows.
I believe there's some cafe there or something, so if people get hungry, we're covered xD.

It might be overused by Chatango can host big chats an alot of anime lovers have accs.

Just an idea for the official meeting in the Philippines... (since no one has given specifics yet)

I'm not that good with places around the city, but if it's Metro Manila we can try malls as meeting places?

Mall of Asia for example, though if we plan to stay there we might have problems going home because of the traffic (I won't though, since I live near it. XD).
Or other large malls like SM North EDSA/ Trinoma or Megamall. Or somewhere in Pasig (Not familiar with this place though).

Pros:
• There'd be lots of things to do for fun (I'm thinking of watching the fireworks at MOA, but meh, it's a Tuesday..).
• And of course, we can buy food in case we get hungry. :))
• And it's covered, so rain or shine we won't have to worry much. :)

Cons:
• The main problem would be traffic and transpo. Well I guess it's inevitable since we're talking about Metro Manila here, but still.
• AND.. If a lot of people WILL come, I'm not sure how we'll be able to move around.

Other options can be Luneta or other parks..
We can have a picnic or something. Luneta's Chinese Garden, says Yahoo! news, is a "good picnic place". Don't know though, haven't tried it. But it has pagodas & gazebos where we can rest. And Chinese poetry. XD
Entrance fee for the garden is Php10.
We just have to bring our own food to share. (I don't think we should buy food in the park. They're very pricey.)
Then I think we can go somewhere else from here. (SM Manila is near Luneta.)

Hehe.. I've never been to something like this before, so I actually have no idea what's gonna happen. XD
I'm not sure about other stuff to do though.
