This is a Utopia. (190)

Why can't the world be like this. I think everyone should look at this and reflect on themselves. This is why it should be on the main board.

This.

This speech is godly.

This is..
This, I need to share it with people. I just felt like posting the speech in case people couldn't watch the video, but the music in the background and the way he speaks makes a big difference.

(Charlie Chaplin):
I'm sorry but I don't want to be an emperor. That's not my business. I don't want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone if possible; Jew, Gentile, black men, white. We all want to help one another. Human beings are like that. We want to live by each others' happiness, not by each other's misery. We don't want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone. And the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone. The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way.

Greed has poisoned men's souls; has barricaded the world with hate; has goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed. We have developed speed, but we have shut ourselves in. Machinery that gives abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge as made us cynical; our cleverness, hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little. More than machinery we need humanity. More than cleverness, we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost. The aeroplane and the radio have brought us closer together. The very nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness in man; cries out for universal brotherhood; for the unity of us all.

Even now my voice is reaching millions throughout the world, millions of despairing men, women, and little children, victims of a system that makes men torture and imprison innocent people. To those who can hear me, I say "Do not despair." The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed, the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress. The hate of men will pass, and dictators die, and the power they took from the people will return to the people. And so long as men die, liberty will never perish.

Soldiers! Don't give yourselves to brutes, men who despise you and enslave you; who regiment your lives, tell you what to do, what to think and what to feel! Who drill you, diet you, treat you like cattle, use you as cannon fodder! Don't give yourselves to these unnatural men---machine men with machine minds and machine hearts! You are not machines! You are not cattle! You are men! You have a love of humanity in your hearts! You don't hate! Only the unloved hate; the unloved and the unnatural.

Soldiers! Don't fight for slavery! Fight for liberty! In the seventeenth chapter of St. Luke, it's written "the kingdom of God is within man", not one man nor a group of men, but in all men! In you! You, the people, have the power, the power to create machines, the power to create happiness! You, the people, have the power to make this life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure. Then in the name of democracy, let us use that power.

Let us all unite. Let us fight for a new world, a decent world that will give men a chance to work, that will give youth a future and old age a security. By the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power. But they lie! They do not fulfill their promise. They never will! Dictators free themselves but they enslave the people! Now let us fight to fulfill that promise! Let us fight to free the world! To do away with national barriers! To do away with greed, with hate and intolerance! Let us fight for a world of reason, a world where science and progress will lead to all men's happiness.

Soldiers, in the name of democracy, let us all unite!

28 Name: The Doctor : 2012-01-28 11:47 ID:Dm9aoIXa [Del]

This is the very reason I love humans, despite all the idiocy that holds power, there are still men, women and children who have their own mind, their own ideals, their own hearts. And it is their choice as to whether or not they will make the world a glorious place, a miserable pit of evil, or to stand by and do nothing, it is their choice to stand up, or to be stepped on, that is the beauty of free will, not just doing things because you are told to, but because you choose to. Even no choice is a choice, and, for good or ill, there will always be a choice so long as they continue to breath, so long as their hearts continue to beat, there is always a choice. Society has muddied and clouded the reality of what life really is, "don't do that, cause no one else is" it is close to becoming a law, but there is always a choice, instead of laughing or leering at those who are eccentric, you should applaud them! They break the boundaries that society has put into place, they have broken the pattern. A man who came into possession of millions of dollars is now living as a homeless man, a drifter. Not because he has lost anything, but because he has gained everything! To finally realize that what is "Normal" is only just an illusion, a concept that is similar when visiting a different culture!

Sorry, that video just built up that rant in me. ^_^

We all want this... So why instead do we have to be in competition. Why must we instead feel that we ourselves, no matter who we align with, are better. Feel as if we are right, the heroes, and everyone else is wrong and evil?

Humans can never and will never live in a perfect world. Humans where made with an unique frontal lobe which gives them the ability to judge and make decisions. The reason we could never live in an Utopia is because of our biggest issues. ANGER, PRIDE, VANITY, JEALOUSY, GREED, and SEGREGATION. We live in a world where only the strong survive and if you cant keep up you will be looked down upon by the rest of society.

I see nothing wrong in trying. If we can't become a perfect world where everything's happy and sparkling, we may come close, no? It's not about being perfect, it's about improvement.

If we had no problems in the world, that would be a problem in itself. I don't think the speech said anything about creating a Utopia, just the OP. Pft, I'm getting lazy so I'll just make a

Sadly.
You see, if you don't know this, FOX is radically conservative, misinformative, and in all aspects, just news at it's lowest point. They sensationalize all they do to make for their little knowledge on what they're reporting. They would, if anyone be the type of news station to turn down offers seeing as in their eyes, "the speech is bad since it implies that gays should have equal rights" (for a present-day example) and such. They do honestly think that not everyone deserves equal rights. Facts are facts. FOX is false.

No matter how hard we wish even our stars will fail us. Even our family will leave us behind if we are weak or struggling. Even people who we thought were with us will turn. A utopia is my dream. But even the most good willed places will be dinged and dented by its inhabitants.

This vid resumes well the Dollars I guess.

But still, a utopia is a utopia and even if we're "united" here online on the Dollars (gender age nationality or religion doesn't matter) the world will never turn out this well.
It's pretty sad but it's called reality, so we should just concentrate on the good parts and fight for what we think is right ;)

92 Name: Tsutome : 2012-02-10 07:44 ID:kN58hMCX [Del]

The video was dead on, the world is only bad because some people choose to make it bad, and as for your idea of a utopia, one is not needed, a utopis could be something as simple as sitting by a fire with your wife and chil safe in the knowlage noone could take them away from you.
Which sadly now noone can be sure that they wont lose anything to another mans greed.
But with each person willing to do good we are one step closer to each of our Utopias.

Well, We all have issues. Like the US . They dont drill for oil on their own land and there fore have to go to other places for fuel. To be honest I think the us needs to take a look at other countrys like Japan. They are litarey 50 years ahead. Even tho they had some natural base issue and was able to bounce back cause of US and others. They still bounce back pretty fast. They are appartently doing something we our selfs arent doing. I think it mainly the oil and Researching Advance tech insed of warfare and what not. If you ask me >.> . On the count of their Hologram Base Tech that is...well alot farther then most people would think. Holograms that sing and Holograms now that are able to touch and be touch. We will see more about it maybe 10-20 years from now.. T.T

...what?
A. The video had absolutely nothing to do with the US other than supporting ideals shared by it. If you didn't figure it out, Chaplin was directly discussing Nazi Germany and the hindrance it caused to world unity. I assume you may be responding to another comment made earlier, but without a reference I have no idea what the fuck you're saying.
B. Japan has as many issues as any other developed nation. The US has serious economic issues, China is a Human Rights hellhole, Japan has a continually depleting food source and a deteriorating population, the Middle East...is all fucked up, most of western Europe is dealing with worsening financial issues based on their attempt to create a joint currency, it goes on. It's easy to complain about the place you live in, but all I'm hearing is the typical whining of a person that has only listened to others complain and not experienced firsthand. Just because one nation is developing something we aren't, who cares? I, for another, am thankful that our already bumheaded government can see that we have more important things to be doing than making flying cars and holograms.
C. "They are litarey 50 years ahead." Assuming you meant "literally," there is no way to do that short of making a time machine. Exaggerations of such proportions do not belong in the kind of statement you were making, so you would have been better just not saying anything about it. Now, Japan is more advanced because the people of Japan have shown an interest in such advancements. The people and corporations of the United States have taken greater preference of the preservation of natural resources and the continuation of older culture as well as keeping space for new developing cultures. We can do that because we have the space to support both interests, and Japan does not. Herp Durf.
D. Along with *literally: *don't *therefore *US *countries *though *were *because *ourselves *aren't *it's *instead *whatnot *touched *(far too many grammatical errors to even attempt)
D2. Why should D matter? Because you are putting your serious beliefs out for everyone to see. It is hard to take anyone seriously when they are both from an English-speaking nation and spell like a 3rd grade C student.

Try again.

As for food supply this is true. And as our economic state. Yes but alot of it has to do with oil and fuel along with other things each appartently Japan has figure out. I'm saying why not follow some of their examples and follow the good examples that the rest of the world put up to make our country better.

true, a lot of economic issues arise from fuel but really, that has nothing to do with Japan.. they got their own issues too (that cannot be answered by Vocaloid and hologram technology) and it's easier to say that a country should drill their own land for fuel than to actually do it. You need land that is uninhibited and actually has a supply of fuel that can be accessed by machines.

This video is amazing! I got chills just listening to it! ^^ Everyone should hear this and I think our politicians need to take a few notes from this speech and FOLLOW THROUGH with what they "promise" and "guarantee" that they'll do during their term. I know that being in an office is stressful and it's hard to get things done if people argue, but that is the jod THEY CHOSE. They know what their getting into and should do what is right for the people. Ok..had my say ^^ bump

Hrms.

Do you think this thread is really related enough to debate the concept of a utopia itself? I know that wasn't quite the aim of the first post, but there have already been a few conversations about it. I'm curious to know if I can make a new thread specifically for discussing "peace on Earth" in general or if this one is close enough for it.

174 Name: Leigha Moscove !9tSeSkSEz2 : 2012-08-28 20:34 ID:aCqFg7FH [Del]

>>173 This could initially start a debate over what a Utopia is, but I think a thread that's created with the intent of being a topic of discussion about what an utopia is would not go on hiatus as often.

My reasoning is because this thread just kind of states an opinion, where the topic of discussion thread actually gives us something to talk about. Since our motto is "The would isn't as bad as it seems," and most people are actually looking to improve the world in some way, I think that a lot of people here would have some form of input in the discussion. I know I would.

I think that you could make a new thread for this, post the link to this thread, and say that you're remaking it to be an actual topic of discussion. You could probably say something along the lines of, "I saw this thread and watched this video and it got me thinking about what a Utopia is." Then you can link both and proceed to give you opinion. Then, to finish it off, you ask for everyone else opinion.
