World Hope? (42)

1 Name: Ladarius : 2011-12-28 16:07 ID:AcUWXEBw [Del]

Do you ever think that the World will ever be a good place for us? Where their is nothing bad and nothing to worry about, only peace. I say yes. But I want to know what YOU think.

2 Name: The Doctor : 2011-12-28 16:11 ID:Dm9aoIXa [Del]

Only with a massive population reduction, and world wide emp

3 Name: Perplexed !icJjWh/.ro : 2011-12-28 16:16 ID:ocArDR40 [Del]

Blatantly, yes. Whether or not the world will be good for everyone is another matter. Personally I only have minor and insignificant worries. The matters of the world are currently distant enough from me I rarely pay heed or feel their sting.

4 Name: Forsythia : 2011-12-28 16:29 ID:1NV3a5HE [Del]

It's a nice thought but in my own opinion, I don't think so. There will always be bad people out there who either get pleasure from hurting others or people who hate certain people enough to beat them, kill them, bully, all those things. It's a nice thought to be at peace with everyone, no more fighting, hurting, not to be afraid to take a step out your door, but it's only a dream we, dollars and all, can wish for to come true.

5 Name: epsilon762 : 2011-12-28 16:31 ID:r1Yp5ecU [Del]

Personaly, I beleive the world will never become a good place for everyone. After all, as soon as the world becomes perfect, life will not change and we'd be stuck on a permanent loop. Furthermore, for the most part, scientists are paid to come up with problems for us to solve, because if they had nothing to fix, they would be out of a job

6 Name: Perplexed !icJjWh/.ro : 2011-12-28 16:45 ID:ocArDR40 [Del]

I can't comprehend how people can be so absolutist in this matter. It might not be probable but I don't think that makes it impossible. You also can't account for the X factor in all of this, there are too many things you'd have to assume, and it seems you're all assuming things will remain bad based on that same probability.

>>4 I don't think it's a dream. I consider my world >>3 a good place. If the minor worries I come across didn't exist, I would be rather bored. Perhaps then my world wouldn't be a good place.

>>5 If there's nothing to fix, no-one would be out of a job. I don't understand how perfection is not good, furthermore I don't believe perfection means life wouldn't change, unless your idea of perfection is mental stasis.

7 Name: NoSkittlesForYou : 2011-12-28 16:48 ID:6+GufpOn [Del]

If this world was perfect for us, it would not exist. Nothing perfect exist because anything can become better. The reach for perfection is just an illusion. This worl will never be perfect for us because we as humans sustain it from reaching that illusion of perfection.

8 Name: Perplexed !icJjWh/.ro : 2011-12-28 16:55 ID:ocArDR40 [Del]

>>7 That logic seems faulty. If the reach for perfection is an illusion, I can't begin to fathom what societies are attempting.

I also don't believe the pursuit of perfection prevents the future achievement of perfection.

9 Name: Zenmaru !gm30xS/oUU : 2011-12-28 17:08 ID:CstpEtt5 [Del]

Never. The only way would to have the world under a dictatorship. But that wouldn't end up very peaceful. >>

10 Name: Crisis : 2011-12-28 17:09 ID:TnATDGwh [Del]

It will never be perfect. Partly because of differing opinions. What is perfect to me, may not be perfect in someone else's eyes, so a world perfect for everyone, can't happen. Secondly, conflict. Someone will always disagree with someone else, and all it takes is the will of one person to start something terrible. Take for example Hitler, or Fidel Castro. It may not be perfect, but we can always certaianly do "better". (And it's really the fact that perfection is unattianble which makes it the most beneficial. Since it's unattainable, we are constantly striving to reach a level we can't, which means we're always striving to do better.)

>>6 If there's nothing to fix, plenty of people would be out of jobs. Plumbers, electricians, and handymen for example.

11 Name: BarabiSama!!C8QPa1Mt : 2011-12-28 17:23 ID:2G0+FF3k [Del]

Yin-Yang Theory :O

Without "bad", there can't be "good". You would have nothing to measure your standards by if everything was "good" - no, there would be no such thing as "good". Even if we clear out everything that we currently think is "bad", we will never reach a utopia where everything is "good". Once you clear away the current "bad", people will develop new things that they think are wrong and "bad". It's a never-ending cycle, as far as I can see.

12 Name: BarabiSama!!C8QPa1Mt : 2011-12-28 17:25 ID:2G0+FF3k [Del]

Unless everyone was the same with the same thought and holding the inability to be themselves, we can never do it. Beliefs, opinions, ideas... these things all get in the way. As long as the "individual" exists, the entire "entity" cannot be at peace.

13 Name: kamura♠ : 2011-12-28 17:25 ID:mDDLJWK5 [Del]

the human race is something that can never be perfect, we are beings that strive to move forward and advance in the world, if perfection was reach we would not be able to move forward, we would not be able to advance.there will always be conflict, fighting will lead to more fighting, and we would come to the conclusion to kill all those who were fighting, and then the world would start rising up in riots from people being killed over small fights, the world world eventual go down in chaos, and we would be under a dictatorship and the world would never be able to return in a semi-peaceful world, there would be much more suffering and many, many more would be killed. but maybe i am going alittle too indeep on this, that is my opinion though.

14 Name: Perplexed !icJjWh/.ro : 2011-12-28 17:36 ID:ocArDR40 [Del]

>>10 If being out of a job is a problem, and there's nothing to fix, there's obviously a paradox.

15 Name: Yamie : 2011-12-28 17:36 ID:J9gZrTpd [Del]

>>11 Well freaking said my fellow Dollars member!! Everything must be equal!

16 Name: Perplexed !icJjWh/.ro : 2011-12-28 17:40 ID:ocArDR40 [Del]

>>13 We move forward because we are imperfect, not because we can't be.

>>10 In the case of Hiter or Castro, they rose up to deal with problems in their own way. Those are not viable examples against the possibility of perfection as there were pre-existing problems that plagued Hiter and Castro

17 Name: JKuri : 2011-12-28 17:46 ID:Sbwp2NtX [Del]

I don't know if I even want to have children based solely on the state of things now.

18 Name: Loliprincess : 2011-12-28 18:28 ID:lTuK8T9U [Del]

I believe there's still hope that the World will one day be at peace. Even if it takes years for that to happen or even when it happens before the World ends, I believe the World will one day be a good place for everyone. <3

19 Name: ForteΣ!ljEVVXEJNE : 2011-12-28 18:29 ID:dieqRAOj [Del]

We are fucked. End of story. We are going out the same way the Greeks did.

20 Name: iono : 2011-12-28 18:51 ID:qHGQ5evn [Del]

personally, no. Ive accepted that humans are selfish creatures. Not always by choice, of course, but our desires and instincts dictate many of our decisions. If theres a chance to hold power (and there always will be) someone will jump on it, no matter the cost.

21 Name: BarabiSama!!C8QPa1Mt : 2011-12-28 19:22 ID:2G0+FF3k [Del]

>>20 Don't desire and instincts dictate all other creatures' decisions, as well?

22 Name: Thiamor !yZIDc0XLZY : 2011-12-28 19:48 ID:6xy56oRj [Del]

Only humans have desire.
Animals, they wouldn't desire a bar of chocolate. Their instincts just are telling them to eat. If it's chocolate, so be it. But they won't crave just it. They would crave any food, because nature tells them to eat.

23 Name: Sekai : 2011-12-28 20:02 ID:dumz16vi [Del]

>>20 Yup. I don't really like humans. That's why on my roleplaying site, I've completely deleted them as a species. ^_^

24 Name: BarabiSama!!C8QPa1Mt : 2011-12-28 20:11 ID:2G0+FF3k [Del]

>>22 When it comes to cravings, animals have that as well. You don't crave something just because you're a human. You usually crave something your body needs (or something your body is addicted to). Animals are the same way. For example, most wild animals know what food is poison and that they shouldn't eat it - that is not a food they would crave or eat in general, then.

And my thought still stands that other creatures have desire. We may have desire for different things, but both humans and other creatures have it. They desire things they need, though I don't doubt many animals and such cannot comprehend their own desires.

You put a bone with a hickory flavor next to a bone with no flavor in front of a dog. There are dogs which will choose one or even some that would refuse to eat one or any at all and others that would eat all, and it is their preference, their desire, to have that one or two or none, whether they or we can comprehend why or not.

25 Name: Thiamor !yZIDc0XLZY : 2011-12-28 20:12 ID:6xy56oRj [Del]

In general role-playing, Humans are meant to be the more balanced group. Not like it matters. But, anyway, Humans can learn almost anything, and thus they are more balanced.

26 Name: Thiamor !yZIDc0XLZY : 2011-12-28 20:16 ID:6xy56oRj [Del]

>>24

Still, that isn't a desire. That's what'as programmed into them. To go with what is better. It isn't them, personally wanting it. It's because their instincts say it's better. They can't comprehend the desire for food, for power, or to actually live.
They don't know why it's better either. Desire implies YOU wanting it. If you want it, you comprehend wanting it. Animals can't do that.

They just do it because that is what's programmed into their mind and body.

Lol? Saying the world will ever achieve absolute and complete peace is like saying God exists. It's only based on faith, and not realistic understanding.

29 Name: ultispy !L9K4OkD6Mo : 2011-12-28 20:49 ID:RISqSNk6 [Del]

Hmm. No.

30 Name: walker : 2011-12-28 20:54 ID:ciMeB+lC [Del]

yeah I don't think it'll happen but if we fight for it and never give up matbe

31 Name: Sleepology : 2011-12-28 20:55 ID:ecwb1v5M [Del]

"Where their is nothing bad"
what?
I say no, because the world is full of that person who just wants to start shit. So unless we go the crazy worldwide ditatorship(?) way, there will not be peace.

32 Name: Misuto27g : 2011-12-28 21:15 ID:tzUzv/ie [Del]

Its all just opinion for now really. Whether we actually achieve it is up to us. As the Dollars we should at least be open to the idea because isn't it what our goal is? S'all I have to say

33 Name: *insertnamehere*!!mhJDjCwh : 2011-12-28 21:22 ID:eRSzjoca [Del]

Oh man, I'm gonna derail this conversation just this post. Good lord, there's another Misuto! I never knew this. This is funny. When he gets here, I shall laugh at his face awkwardly.

34 Name: *insertnamehere*!!mhJDjCwh : 2011-12-28 21:22 ID:eRSzjoca [Del]

The other, older one, I meant, when I said I'd laugh at his face.

No need to apologize, it's a somewhat common name, I guess. It's fine.

39 Name: Katon : 2011-12-28 22:06 ID:S7oX/0Ky [Del]

There can never be world peace. It's a quaint thought, like a bedtime story, but people will always disagree and desire more money or power.

40 Name: archadmiral!ISvQ2vSsZc : 2011-12-28 22:13 ID:J8HtvlS+ [Del]

There is always hope, but i swear to god these threads are so similar they are giving me deja vu, GOD DAMNIT -__- the world is peace is already a thread, good vs evil its the same basic opinions just ask is there still hope in those threads instead of making a new one.

I mean after starting a gay marriage thread, i feel like since its all yes for gay marriage (all the best arguments are yes), i want to check out opinions on incest marriage i dont wanna open up a new thread in fear of spam.. I am up for saging this
