Throughout elementary school, I was an avid fan of anime/manga/dramas so of course I wanted to be a mangaka. I practiced drawing a lot so I draw pretty well now, but that passion then turned to singing and teaching in junior high. Now, I want to be a researcher/professor in the field of biology with maybe a minor in music (although I'm not sure how that will work since I don't play any instrument and my singing is a little horrid). Expect cancer to be cured in the next decade. ;) It kind of works out since my family had always wanted me to be a doctor. (I'm Asian)

A very unlikely wish is to become a manga storyline writer. An even more unlikely wish is to be a voice actor. As for being paid for any of these things, well... who knows.
I'd do it all anyway. I also want to travel a ton, but there's not much chance of getting paid for that. And none of these ideas to anything to help me decide my major. :L

Oh man, I wanted to be a lot of things. Let's go down the list shall we.
Archaeologist when I was in that Yugioh phase. Had my sibling's elementary teacher buy me a book on reading hieroglyphics because I had thought they only worked in Egypt and shit.
Left that and after a few years later or so, I wanted to be some type of movie director or something, when I was working on this film project and was the only pair to actually succeed in making this film thing, I forgot.
After that, I was in my emo music phase, so I wanted to become a singer or some type of musician because it was cool, I listened to a lot of bands back in the day (Note: a lot of means mostly Linkin Park and some other stuff).
Somewhere between that and somewhat now I guess, I wanted to become a video game maker/tester, because again it seemed cool at the time.
And those are just the ones that I remember right now. There are more, I think. And then there's some currently that I don't feel like sharing. Herp derp.

And here's a tip, go to a community college for 2 years first for your basics. It's cheaper, and you get an assosciates degree where you could pick up from if cirtumstances require a temporary break from college.
And honestly, cherish high school kids. You may want to get out, but you're going to be sad on the last couple days. That's about 12-13 years of your life coming to a close. Realize that the people you've spent 12 years of your life with... You won't see most of them ever again. I remember wanting to get out ASAP, and even wanted to et a GED to get out quick, but now that I am out, I really do miss high school.

If I were to tell you anything it would be to tell you that you should see if you can do the job before you spend your life preparing for it.
I wanted to be a Marine in the United States Military. I spent my whole life training in combat and special tactics only to find that I am permanetly prohibited to join any branch of the military because I have a disease called Crohns; a genetic gastrointestinal disorder. It was hard to swollow. It is still hard to swallow. I spent so much time adapting to extreme combat situations that I can never go back to being something other than a public enemy if not a soldier. The life of a lab rat is not for a killer like me. Maybe if I had forgot my dreams to become a Marine long ago and just took the other path I would still be able to achieve my goal. Anyways, take it from me if not no one else do not go after something without seeing if you can do it. Once you set your mind on something for so long it's hard to shake it, so make no mistake.

I'm interested in either becoming a computer programmer or a fashion designer. Everyone makes fun of the huge difference, but you know what? I'm proud of being well-rounded. My choice really depends on which/if any vocational school I get into next year. I applied for both of those; I'm pretty sure I'll get into the computer science course since I've done so well in the school technology competitions. There's always the possibility that my major idea may change in the two and a half years I have left of high school, of course, or that my job idea may change through college.

I have absolutely no idea. I could be a number of things, a writer, critic, doctor(both medical and surgical, as well as psychological), computer forensic analyst, police officer, even a chef. I have a ton of things I've been told I'd be good at, but what I really want to do is become a world traveller.
I don't mean like just getting paid to fly places, but like get a job with National Geographic, writing columns on foreign culture. Or hell, if I'm going to aim high, try and get one of those shows on the travel channel seeing the world or something.
But thats what I WANT to do. What I'll probably end up doing is teaching or working in a restaurant somewhere. Might get lucky enough to get one of my stories published, who knows?

after high school i was confused about life. for college, i followed my mother's wish and enrolled in BS Nutrition and Dietetics. But after sometime i got bored and lost my interest (because i am better in cooking than calculating for calories). Psychology got my interest so i shifted to BSPsych even without my mother's consent, when she found out she told me to drop all my subjects (heartless) i told her i would but i did not. im still studying BS PSych but my mother who works abroad thinks im lazing my life, a hikikomori. "No matter what, i believe that i should choose for me" ~thats my motto :D someday im gonna be an intel/spy for the army or maybe a Scenes of Crime Officer and after my service i would write poems and books including my autobiography. ;D

I kept changing my mind all through out high school, and now that I have graduated I still have no idea what I want to do with my life. The one thing that stayed constant, however, was my deep seated yearning to become a mother like my own- someone who listens to my problems and helps me through them, someone I could tell literally everything to and not have a single fear of being judged. I've always been so lucky to have a mother like mine, and I wish everyone had the shear dumb luck that I've had.
I still have no idea what I want to do with my life, aside from being a mom. ^-^
I'm putting myself though college (Gen Studies, oh, the joy!) working under my uncle in the office for his HVAC company. It's a fun place to work, since everyone has a wonderful sense of humor. The prank wars are EPIC! (Zip-tied fer-breeze canisters, marbles in the cabinets, and random pen sling shots.) Fun times.

It's hard to tell what I want to be. I feel like everything where I live, in my surroundings, this society, is just repulsive and stupid. It's been a while since I posted in this thread. Originally I talked about engineering since my main goal has to do with efficient urban design and resource allocation. However, having spent time in engineering study, I found that it wasn't pointing me toward the direction I had set for myself.
Since then, I have changed my major to Geographic Information Systems (which is a funny way to say Geospatial Analysis, or the study of maps and map data). So far, it's been a much better fit, and I feel that by continuing on with it, I will be able to do my part when it comes to controlling the movement and distribution of resources, in order to promote efficiency and availability (damn, that's a mouthful).

I want to be a manga artist... I realize that it will be extremely hard but I don't care! ^-^ I wanna try something that will be difficult and I will make it. I'm also considering being a writer. I also want to become a writer, and apparently lots of other people too. Every day I'm writing. I just love people and have always find their actions very interesting. When writing, there is this large feeling of burning happiness inside of me.
In addition to this, I would also like to become a doctor. It's just that I'm rather fast bored, so I need a constant flow of new things happening around me. As a doctor, I can help people and come across infinite situations. As a writer I can release my huge imagination, write about the people, which I so much love, the illusions, which I so adore, and all this different worlds, which I find so interesting.
If I find time during this, hopefully I can learn to play piano, talk and write Japanese and practice martial arts.
This is going to be one hell of a ride, me likey :)

I think I replied to this months ago saying I wanted to be a Special Agent in the FBI.
But now I'm not sure. A lot has changed, and I know a lot more will change in the future. I've been arguing a lot with my mother about this subject, but I just really am not sure what I want to be when I grow up.
I've been thinking lately I want to be a book editor. I've always loved literature. So I might just do that.
But then again, I might change my mind. I'll see what I decide to be if I go to college/university.

You could say that I'm having a dilemma about this since I am good at many things (oh modesty) but my main priority is money. There is an undeniable crave for being a psychologist and I think that that profession would suit me well (since I love humans and understand them...main reason why I like Izaya)and bring me an acceptable pay, though it’s not certain (nothing is for certain). But there is also a problem of my laziness. The only thing that separates me and the diploma i need for that profession is stupidly chosen literature. I believe I am right to say that there are many better written and more useful books then the ones I will have to study at The University.
The other profession that sparks my interest is something that includes mathematics, physics and informatics. With the right choice of career it could also bring me more than enough money, also not for certain….
In the end I didn’t even write what I want to be, just what would be beneficial…. -.-

I want to be a writer too, to be honest. It's not practical but it's what I enjoy doing. It also feels good when you show your writing to other people and in return you get praise and criticism and everything just clings to your heart even though you have tons of other things to think about.

I want to be a game developer and I'm striving to be one now. I think it's better to fight for what you really desire. What I want to be when I grow up?
Well, I don't know, I need help. I don't picture myself doing anything. I can do many things, and people say I'm 'super smart' (really don't think that). I read all of these threads and almost everyone has something they want to do. Me on the other hand, have nothing at all. I am sick and tired of people asking me that question when I don't know what I want to be yet. I don't even know myself yet. The time is ticking, and I need to decide fast. My parents, I know, won't always support me with money. There are so many things to choose, but so little time.. And sometimes, you know those online future planner things for jobs? Yeah, those, they choose a lot of different varieties, and it doesn't help at all! I don't want to be in a family, either.
Whenever I ask people to describe me (for a better job to go off of) They either say I'm talented, smart, and sporty. Like, what does that even mean? They also say I can talk a lot and a little.I don't want to be an athlete either, too much moving or running for no reason. I can understand and use technology very well.. Like I said, I can do many things and I want to put them all at use. I want to help the world. In any way possible, even if I have to die..I am very chicken and I am usually scared of things, but after a while I tend to get used to it. I really don't know what to do..I'm very stressed about this. I love people and things in my own way. I want to do something new and exciting..kind of why I joined the dollars. My parents want me to have a high paying job, but I want to do what I want. I am a pushover, so you know how that goes..When I was younger, I always told them I wanted to be something..happy, but they would always be like 'happy? Please it's not worth it. It doesn't give you money. Haha Stupid, naive child' and stuff like that. I still believe in happy, but I don't really know about my job. I think it might be like undercover stuff ya know? Hm.. Nevermind.

I wanted to be a chef, and I've got 2 months of school left for training to be one, but I've realized I really don't want to be one. I was only taking it because I needed an excuse to get out of a terrible job my mother got me, which had been causing me panic attacks & making me just break down crying at least once a month (I hadn't had anything like that happen before I got the job, and haven't had anything like that happen since I left). Well, I eventually want to cut all ties with civilization as an old man, climb a mountain or getting to some other difficult to access place, and just live the rest of my days in solitude, doing my own thing as some sort of hermit. I work as an overnight security gaurd, and have for about a decade. Sad thing is one rarely gets the job they want. You need cash so you find a job you can "stand", simple as that. Case and point, i wanted to be a weapons desighner, like mad scientist level as a kid, nvr came true. As for a story from work...i happened upon a couple in a car that had parked repetedly in a dark area of the property. Little did they seem to realize we had shiny new cameras installed. Long story short, one person in the car was some old ugly dude, and the other a worn out lookin young women, perhaps even a girl who had quickly gotten out of a certain "position" in order to answer my questions such as "are you a tenant here"? She wasnt, even tho she tried to convince me otherwise. Right after i left to go back to the desk i watched as they hastily left and drove off before i could make sure of the obvious from the cameras and call the cops.......so...ya, fun, no? Lol

I used to work in stagehanding, I'd be setting up big shows with about a hundred or so other people, unfortunately, due to covid, I've been unemployed for a few months now. Considering getting back into hospitality or retail, just because money's real tight and I've got bills and rent to pay, even though honestly I hate those fields...

Of course, some people are just lucky to get what they want without needing to devote a lot of time, effort, and money to get there (and honestly, all the more power to them); but most of the time you need to think what would you be willing to sacrifice to be what you want to be. And a lot of the time, the sacrifice is just not worth it (or not even possible at all) and you need to compromise with a job that you may not really "like", but you can at least "tolerate".
