So i keep seeing some people saying this is a fansite and vis versa. So I want the members of this place say what it is to them. Is this a place that you come to for social resons or do you want to help people.

I'm here to help, and tend to get irritated with people that assume this is a fansite. It is only a fansite to the extent of the Anime board, so when people start treating it like one in the Missions board, I kinda want to.... What's the word? Ah, "punch" them.

Yes, I am probably the biggest fan of Izaya there is. I cosplay as him and walk around town acting like him. I live in a small town in Texas, close to Wichita Falls, And there is close to no anime fans besides me and my friends. But that's besides the point.

I love this site. Durarara!! Was the best anime we have all watched in a long, long time. Afterwords, We started making our own group for the dollars here in town. THEN, I stumble across this website. And what do I think?

I think this is a great socializing website for fans and people alike. People get onto me for being Izaya since he is from the show and I shouldn't do that...I don't care? I am here to have fun and do my own thing. And this website has given me the perfect opportunity to do so. If you want to help people, go do it! Great! If you want to talk with members of the same fan group as you, Go ahead! That's what this "World" Is for. Being the people that we want to be. And changing the way things are to what they should be.

I think this website should be used for both purposes. I think that it would be effective for communication between people who actually do want to help the world and for fans.

This site is good for when I wanna take a break from doing homework or when I just have random free time. It's great for finding people who have the same interests and making friends; it also gives me new things to think about when new topics of discussion pop up. Plus, I love seeing people participate in the Missions ^_^

I personally don't see the Dollars as a fansite, although I don't necessarily think it's only for community service either. This site is great for doing whatever, specially the fun stuff in Random.

To me this site is a place to get and share ideas for helping and doing good, as well as to keep myself motivated to do so. It's also a place I can come when I have time and just chill on the boards or every once in a while go on the chat.

So really, I think the big answer to your question is this: This site is anything and everything that we want it to be. It's not just one thing or just another thing. Nor should it be. If it was, that would kill a lot of the enjoyment so many of us find here.

The Dollars website is a place to share ideas and experiences with community service, doing good, and helping people, and I love that, but it also works as a place to just relax and chat with people who have similar interests.

The Dollars site is an escape from every day life to a community oof individuals who want a better world, and want to actually do something about it. For me personally, its a place for every role or title to be erased, and you can say who you really are and not get totally ripped for you ideals, and concepts. its a world I can access in the aplm of my hand, and not worry about the mask.

This website to me? Well that is easy. I mainly use the dollars as a source of information, as soon as I get on I go straight to "news" to see whats new. Like for example some of the more recent posts like "Immortal jelly fish" or the "self proclaimed docter" I don't see this type of information on the news where I'm from and i quite enjoy it. Though I do use the dollars to communicate with others, I usually try to have a... "fun" conversation (or atleast it's fun in my opinion) with others.

The Dollars (the group and this site) are rather important to me. I miss the days of forums and message board. I have been dicking around on the Internet since the days of early dial-up. I remember saving a bunch of website content (pics, animated gifs, text, midis, etc, but mostly pics) from my favorite pages as a precaution again Y2K. As time has progressed, I've seen drastic changes in the social norms of the global fat intrawebz. Some of these changes, mostly due to the wide-spread use of social networking and the de-evolution of such, have left a bad taste in my mouth giving me distaste for what the Internet world has become.
This site is your typical BBS, a very simple message board; believe it or not, this acts as a sort of filter (not just referring to the filtering effect of this site). Here, the behavior of users is akin to what I remember. There is no blocking, there are not hundreds of pictures, there is no popularity contest for comments, eprops, replies, reposts, etc. There are no friends, there are no groups, there is none of that useless fucking shit which acts as a poor alternative to social stimulations found IRL. Here, we are a community, forced to listen and respond to one another in order to participate in this site. It may be harder for some of the younger members here to see, but for me, I can see it clearly and it looks like the forgotten past. This is what the web used to be littered with, communities.
Networks are shit, bros; what you need is a community. This statement holds true digitally and physically.

I have an abundance of bookmarked websites and pages that I visit. I am very busy with everything that goes on in life, and therefore, never get the chance to visit my daily websites.

This is one that I open,everyday, after school is done, and I have this website open until I fall asleep.

I love this website. As a noob, I mistook this for an website/fan-site that was attempting to emulate the people from the show.

Raccoon, that was incredibly well worded and I couldn't agree more with everything you said. I'm not even sure if I qualify as old enough to have truly experienced the internet the way it used to be, though I do remember looking up to online communities with a sense of awe and respect - the sort of child-like wonder when one looks upon an adult who has his shit together.

I did take part in some communities, before social networking sites were popular. Though, as I said, I may have been too young to truly appreciate them for what they were. Their open-ended nature, where anyone could join, anyone would talk to anyone without knowing them prior, and people would share opinions on a wide scale with the entire community, always made me feel welcome and a part of something whether or not I was really active. I watched and observed, taking it as a prime example of communication among peers.

Perhaps it was because I was too young to really see it in retrospect, or maybe I was simply clueless - but it never truly hit me that this is what the internet was. It was what it used to be. As social networking became more popular, I took it in stride and grew a general distaste and cynicism towards other people, something that I always attributed to my perception on maturity as I grew older.

It's only now, after reading your post, that I'm putting two and two together, and the resulting nostalgia hit me with a sense of despair that has me doubling over in realization. I was already quite fond of this site, but I could never give it a real reason before.

It was the familiarity with an ideal I had long since forgotten. Thanks for reminding me of that.

Same here, except I'm even more recent, to the actual site at least. I think it has the same feel as the anime Dollars, the feeling of being somehow linked. I feel like we have the capability to change the world if something happens. That's not something you feel on, say, Facebook (despite their best efforts). It's not just a fan site. It's the Dollars.

I really love this place, even if I had just joined yesterday. People here actually want and try to make a difference for the world and make it a little bit better day by day. I've met a lot of new friends on here and everyone is nice.
I am a fan of Durarara!! and have found this place because of it (obviously), but I have met a lot of people on here who don't even watch the anime. They just really like the presence the people on here give them.
I also like the fact that people on here are able to voice out their own opinions and ideas.
I don't think this is 'just' a fan site, I think it's more than that.

The people here are nice. They are interesting. They really are. And the best thing is, you can easily connect and talk to them without the restraints of friendship groups, real-life drama, and so-on. Since we're all anonymous and all.

I feel this is a site that inspires. And makes me feel like a contributor to others. With some really good missions that i have felt made people smile. I know i had a friend help me a few times and they even made her smile just doing them. Its a site that could make a difference if taken seriously.

It's been a really long time since I've been here. Over a year ago this was a much smaller community. There were only a few people that were going out and doing good deeds for their own communities. Even the chatrooms have expanded to more than just a few channels. Now there's different selectable languages? Pretty sick! As far as I'm concerned, it's both; the site is basically our headquarters where we plan our missions, and its alos a place for us to take a break and chat casually.

To me this site is a place to go to where problems can be heard and people will do what they can to help weather its a mission or something small. But this site is also a place for many like minded people to either talk about something random or a serious topic. The Dollars IS the real deal and the individual can do what they wish with that in mind.

To me this site is like a group of people with abjectives and missions to do.But there are also people who are treating this site like a fansite or somethin' and i didn't like it.I wish that the members of "THE DOLLARS" will become more mature and think of what this site is made for.

Been hella busy, and why does this have 184 comments, when there is already several posts like this -__-, the site is what you make or want to make it and if people join you in making it a certain way its what it is, ideally i feel its a place free from judgement and fear of oh shit i posted something who will see it. I like it cuz we get to express what ever ways we want to express and we are only respected by how much you earn in each persons eyes, no little titles saying like senior officer or ranks.

To me, this site is more then a Fan site. It makes me Think i actually am part of "The Dollars", And i will continue to think im in the dollars. Why? 1.Because its fun. 2.It introduced me to 4 new friends who i love talking to. 3.It seems like a closely knit community of people who actually care about you and your opinions. This world.... this world of ours kinda sucks. Time is Everything. Time on this site is worth it though. This site makes me feel more connected to the world sometimes. I Love this site. I strongly dislike the trolling Wannabes though. Hate is too harsh of a word to use. I mean, these are other human beings. Im sure they have problems too. For me this is a site I feel should be devoted to helping others, but just not enough peolpe actually communicate in rl to put it to good use. I'm too young to do anything right now, but ask me this same question again in say 3-4 years, and my answer would for sure be to help people. I plan on using this site as a link to fellow members with the same goal and am not afraid to take action, even if it means getting my hands dirty. We need to stop just using this as just some fansite and make the Dollars a reality. That's just how I feel about all this anyway. I'm hoping i can find others like myself who aren't afraid, and are willing to, at times, break the law for the sake of what they are trying to accomplish.

Not only this site, but the dollars mean so much to me. i feel like this is where i belong, and its the first time I've ever felt that way about something.

It could be just me but it seems like this site is what "you" want it to be. For some people that come after watching anime this is a fansite, for those that like the whole idea that dollars represent consider it a site where they can help people. There also those that just see it as another site to troll. So like I said in the begging:

Umm, being a DRRR!! fans this site naturally attracted me. Tbh I just discovered this site recently with my renewed interest toward the series. But the fact that this site wasn't all about the series itself make me happy.

Me myself think about this site as a free community--here, we are colorless and invisible, it delights me. Although I come here to gather information or just having fun, it's nice to know there's a place I could belong in the vast world of internet. Almost feel like home.

I think its a little bit of both. Most people get on here just because its a fansite; however, ive found that some aspects of this site acutualy work like the Dollars, for example, a person posted a "missing person" thread she described the person and the aria which she went missing, the person was found a few hours later. I belive this would be a rare occurance because most people would probably be to lazy to get off the computer for five seconds and help a fellow human being.

I don`t see it as a fansite, I mean, sure there are alot of Durarara fans on here, and it is based off of the Dollars in Durarara, but we actually help people here, talk about alot of things, and rarely talk about Durarara.

Well...this site to me...it's a new beginning or starting point...I meet new people and changed a bit by learning. Every once in a while there is drama in the chats, but it's a good thing to let out instead of it being bottle up inside. This site change me and I'm happy, I use to be someone who didn't even speak at all, however, once I saw DRRR, I came and check to see if the 'Dollars' were real. Once I saw it was I came on right alway. So this site means a lot to me....I don't think of it as a fansite...however, more as a...new chapter in life.

I have come here for two reasons. I believe that it is perfect for connecting with those similar to me, and also, I believe I can find others that want to make a difference. I do have a realization that some people are just fans, and that is all this is to them, but that is not all it is to me.

This is a real gang,but one that helps others and are really just a giant community working together to reach individual goals.
My first time coming here, I didn't read the FAQ and messed up a tad. But a few people corrected my mistakes and now I am doing much more to help. Or atleast trying and thinking of ways to help. The first day I was here I tried acting like Izaya. That was a mistake. Yes I love him, but I'd rather just be myself then get chewed out.

My thoughts after DRRR were how cool it would be if the Dollars were actually real, with a real intent to do good. Lone and behold, they actually exist.

I've read all the other replies, some good, some...irrelevant...but I figured since this topic is close to my heart, I'd reply too.
I found out about the dollars, like a lot of people through the sow and through a friend. I thought, "Hey! It'll be fun to pretend like the Dollars are real,so why don't i join?" What an awakening. What I found was a bunch of people trying to do good in a corrupt society, a rarity that is almost never seen. I'm not the oldest member, but I look around my campus in the morning and see kids i've known my whole life masking their true and beautiful self with petty problems and rumors and nonsense. But here on this site, they seem to get a feeling of safety from their usernames and icons, and they're not afraid to admit that, yeah, they want to help, or they're scared to die, or that maybe it's not so bad actually trying to accomplish something. Today in chat I met a kid who was a great poet and was really sweet. It turns out that kid is a junior at my high school that i thought was one of the most frigid girls i'd ever met.
The Dollars to me is a group where I can say my opinion freely and get advice to actually help out, not just do nothing all day. It's a place of safety and freedom, a home that will stay with me even if I move and leave everything else behind. It's a place where anyone anywhere can be needed.

It's something the whole world can be apart of.

To be honest I joined this website because I thought it was a fan site. But no I realized that it's a real group, a real organization, but now I want to be a REAL Dollar. 1 who helps someone In need. When i watched DRRR i was amazed at the dollars, and i wanted to be just like them, and when i figured out that it was i real thing i almost died! Its not that im dissapointed, but i did expect it to be more of what it was like in the show, however i do love the chatroom.

How is it different Link? It's a community site, with the most limited administration you can manage which appears to consist primarily of management of the site functions itself, the rest are left up to the membership, and yet everyone's level of respect prevents it from devolving into a mess like 4chan

To me this is a site for socializing and helping people. Forming Dollars groups around the world and do good deeds I guess. Its also kinda exciting how you're helping change the world with people who thinks the same as you, doesn't it? :D

Of course I came here because of the anime and I was really excited that something like this really existed. But more I liked the idea of doing a change that hasn't been made before.
It may be my imagination, but I've got the feeling that someday this will become something big and I'd love to be part of it.

First I came here cause of the anime, but I have always loved helping people. It quickly changed from Fan-isum into wanting to be a true honest Dollar. I love what you guys do. I love that I can help people. And I am so very grateful to all of you have been trying to help me threw my depression. You don't even know how much you all have helped me. I hope in return that I can help all of you.

But this site is really cool. I enjoy reading the conversations and I feel like it's sort of a big community. I like being able to contribute my own opinions and seeing new ways to help people in the Missions section.

I think that this site are incredible because it saved lives, depressed people,suicidal peolpe ecc...perhaps with this site we can change really the world..

Just who are the Dollars?

To put it simply, we are a group united in transparency. Our flag has no color, and our members are not bound to any hierarchy. At over 10,000 strong from across the globe, we have many smaller cells, but there is no true leader. Age, ethnicity, economic status, ability; none of that matters here. Everyone is equal.

We abhor violence and go out of our way to bring peace, justice, and prosperity to our respective communities. We want to show the world that groups like ours are not to be feared. Many of the Dollars vow to do what they can, and our only reward is motivating others to join our cause. We use a Bulletin Board System to congregate and bounce ideas off one another, as well as being a place for general discussion of shared hobbies and interests.

Anyone can join. Just say you’re in the Dollars and you’re in. Spread the word.

I admit, I too came here because of the anime, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. I initially thought this to be a fansite but have since changed my view on the group almost immediately after I entered that password.

I like how we really are an active group, where everyone is doing their best to try and help people, find ways to help others, as well as just communicate and interact with everybody else in this site. I believe that the Dollars, we, as a whole, are a single collective of numerous individuals who have one same thought in mind, we all want to change the world and help in whatever way we can, and to me, that is amazing.

I have to say that I somehow find this place to be like a second home already despite being here for not more than a day. Perhaps its too soon to say that, but I've been browsing around the forums, as well as being particularly active in the chat, and I'm really enjoying the crowd here. I can act as I really am, and I enjoy that.

The Dollars as a whole is slowly growing on me.

I came here because of the anime, and I knew there would be people who would try to make something like the Dollars off of Durarara real. I love that we actually try to help people, and I love a lot of the threads on here for they can cheer me up if I have been having a bad day.

I came here for the same reason as the others, plus to improve my roleplaying skills. But being on this site is more that just that, It's kind of like a family. The Dollars together are really nice people that seem to want to help others.

I came here because of the anime and what not. Also it's nice this place isn't a fansite and the real thing. But I'm not super delusional to think it's completely the same thing as the anime, you know? Like we're not a gang. Also I felt happier when I joined this place because I was having a life crisis and thought my future would be me being an unsuccessful person still not making up my mind on what I REALLY want to do, but since I've joined, I've felt like I can think more clearly and feel motivated on what I really want to do. ^_^

I came here after i finished the anime but it's good to know that these are a bunch of good people and are a small group for now as not many people know about this place. i came here for a chance to be part of something that was different from my usual life and i found it!

I, like many others, found this site after watching Durarara! i don't really consider it to be a fan site but at the same time i don't think of it to be a cheap knock off like many of the other sites. Im really glad that i found this site, i was never really clear with myself on who i was, who i wanted to be, and why i was letting other people control my life. After i came on here i talked with other people, realized what type of person i was, and im much happier now! i don't let people control me and if i need advice or just want to talk i come on here and just talk to people who will understand me!

I haven't been here long, but this site feels like an extended family already, and i keep hoping someday I can actually contribute something to the missions.

I also am new but I love this site and its people and dearly thank whoever made this possible. I think that I would love to help people except I'm not sure if I can yet. I do hope that once I become independent that I will be able to be part of the missions. At first I also thought this was a fansite and technically it is but really now I know its so much more.
Thats just what I think though and I probably sound super cheesy. But yeah that's my opinion.

I feel this site could be something greater, the only setback is that Dollars members are spread all across the world, not in a singular place. With more members in each state that wouldn't be a problem though.

I generally see this place as a forum for people who want to do good int the world. There's a reason animation is only one of 18 tabs over to the left, & I've referred people who've never seen DRRR here.

To me, this site is a way to leave all your troubles behind and finally be able to calm down without all of the stress. It is also for social purposes.

dollars-bbs.org is a place where I feel like we, as like minded human beings, can connect with each other, and in some way, do good in the world. Be it that some of us go out and do a charity thing under the Dollars name, or meet up and talk about things you guys have in common.
That's the short version of what this site is to me.

I see this site as a place where a budding organisation lays, an organisation that could possibly improve the world one day and I want to be part of the, improving the world that is

I think this group is a place for both. You can meet people, socialize and make new friends but you can also do good in the world. I've made lots of new friends using this site, I have yet to official do good under the group's name, as I am a new member, but I hope that will soon change

I think it's a place for people to do good and become friends in the process, or the other way around. But you can't have one without the other here.

I think it's a recruiting site for dollars missions to reach an end that are relevant to factions as a whole.

A bunch of cool people?

Even though this is a "fan site", I personally think that the person who made this did believe that this site has potential to be just like the site in the series Durarara.
We have the people who come for fun, the people who want to make a difference in the world, people who want to use it for personal gain, etc etc.
For me, this is a place of learning and connecting. We have a chance to learn from people who can hack or has connections to certain people. We have a chance to know what is going on in the world and do something about it, to learn from it and take whatever actions that we as a group feel that we should take. We're all liked minded people mostly, we all mostly see the true potential of this site, to us, it shouldn't matter what others think mostly, we just need to be us and do what we think is right.
That's what I think of the site after all, at least, a part of it.

I've barely started using this site but for me it seems like a place where I can talk to people and make new friends. (And occasionally try to help with the missions). And I hope i can get meet many more friends :)

I first heard of this site when my friend started watching durarara years ago. I wasn't that interested in it because I didn't really know the point of being a part of this site. (in all honesty)

Years later, and I am now in college. I wanted to meet more people from around the world. I have tried A LOT of apps and websites just to do this, but NONE of them worked.

When I told my friend about my dilemma, he re-introduced to me dollars. I gave it a shot in one of my school off days and after being with a good set of people in a chat, I started going there more often, until it became a habit.

Now, I go here everyday.

It's amazing here. Of course there are also a_ _holes, but that just means there are also good people.

It's the best site to meet people from around the world.

The Dollars is a community that for the most part keeps it real 24/7. Almost everyone on here acts like them self, and we are forced to deal with one another. You can't block, you can try to avoid, but most of the time we are forced to deal with one another - which I think is great. In communicating with such a vast amount of different people, I feel I have learned more of the world and more of myself. Much of my old judgments are gone because people have proven me wrong or shown other sides of the picture. Even if half of the site is random nonsense, we add a bit of ourselves with each post and show a little bit more of this vast world.

To me, this a place i go too for... I guess socializing, the random, literature, and art board. Also there's no need for commitment here too. In real life if you start talking to people more often they might expect you to be around their lives more often. If you're like gone for a week, they'll think somethings up or that you got something against them, and when you appear again, they'll question you, but here, if you're gone for a week and come back later on, nobody really questions it. There's nothing wrong if you're gone for a while, it's also normal here to reply to things even a few days later, nobody bats an eye. Also, I use this BBS too because it's nice to keep it going, keep it alive and such. Another reason too is because it's easy to find out who all the most active or atleast most recently acrive users are too.

I love the anonyous part of this. Its somewhere i can go and say whatever i want and no one knows its me.

I think of this site to be an official thing. Though based from an anime, I think a group known as "The Dollars" can be a group where everyone can feel welcome and feel safe anonymously. Nobody knows anyone, but yet people still help or chat to these strangers. I believe this site is something for the joy of anyone who enjoys the thought of being able to be in a secret group where they can be free to ask and chat as they want under their own alias without the fear of being judged.

I can understand it basically being a fansite, since the password is so well known :/ But I only really come here to chill with others and check out what people are doing.

Yeah I'd say both. It's nice to talk to people here (some of the time) cause you meet all sorts of personalities, but I also use it to help or be helped whenever I can.
Also it reminds me of the anime whenever I come here and I feel like an actual Dollar, a feeling I love.

I do love this site and this site makes me feel like an actual Dollar. I do enjoy everyone here and all the personalities that the people holds. Its something that I do love being connected to other Dollars.

This site can't really be anything else than what it is, people posting threads with people making replies to them, what differs from other similiar sites would be the mindset of the community, we've all seen drrrr, we all know that dollars was supposed to make the everyday life a little less of a hassle, so with that in mind lets not cause much trouble, shall we?

The site, to me, is a special community.
Whether you call it a fan club, or an online "colourless colour gang" is up to the eye of the beholder. However, seeing as the question is what the site is to me, I can't answer like that.
Again, this site is a special community in my eyes. It's one where I can ask for help, look for entertainment within others, or do basically whatever with whoever I happen meet. Sure, I can do that in any community, but this one also happens to have others who I know for a fact also take interest in my arguably favourite series. Conversations don't even have to be about the show/manga, you can talk about whatever.
You could be a man, a woman, young, old, or whatever, and you'd still find yourself a place here.
Having all this variety of human beings in a single website, where almost all of them talk about different things and yet still connected oddly--it makes this place a pretty special one to me.

It's almost my always, go-to happy place, cheesy as that all sounded.

To me, this site is usually where i go to interact with people. It's kinda like social media however because this community is smaller, it feels like i can get a bit more emotional and more personal in a way, like I'm talking to human beings and not a persona.

As a person who spent most of there juvenile in and out of detention and homeless, this is probably close as I'll ever get to an actual home.

It's nostalgic. The fade to obscurity has made this board quieter and less chaotic than popular analogues like 4chan. With how few people actually remember this site nowadays, it actually feels more like a secret society than ever. ^^
