This is by no means an attempt to start a new group, but to make those in this group aware of whats going down at wall street.

and more importantly who these people are and what they, and more importantly what you may, stand for,

first time I've seen ANY! reference to such an important protest, Thank YOU for posting this, and I'll be bumping since there has been NO reference to it, not even on msnbc (which is supposed to be the liberal media). I'm guessing that even their corporate masters are afraid of this...

>>3 well, they are more like soldiers, they were just fallowing orders. If they wanted, they could have easily removed all of them, but where's the media attention? it's been days since this started! I'm glad to see that they are getting donations coming in, but this is just the start.

>>5 I can't say that I represent "occupywallstreet.org" in any way, but from what I've read they are protesting the fact that taxpayers are currently paying for the economic meltdown, while the rich 1% of the US population are still being pampered and showered with tax cuts and corporate tax loopholes. They are advocating for the government to stop ignoring 99% of the population, and make some real financial and tax reform.

I recommend attending if possible. If not, you can see if your area has an OccupyTheNation event:

http://www.occupythenation.com/

At the moment, there are huge talks about the Chicago and DC occupations, especially since the police showed up at the earlier of the two.

.....
The first image I see is someone with a sign saying 'Stop capitalism'
PEOPLE ARE SUPPORTING THIS?!?! WHAT. THE. FUCK!?
If you want to be successful, try working, or invent the most popular computer OS that is successful thirty years after it was made originally, or redesign plastic to have the properties of steel cable but without the weight.
Do something other than protest those that tried in life.
Fuck, cleaning their house would be better than that!
All you're accomplishing is making it so others can't be successful.
That 1% you call 'the rich,' which, despite current claims, are not a secret society that controls world events, pay about 30% of the total taxes. They pay for just under half of the other 99%, the people who would 'the rich' 3% if they stopped standing in city streets yelling at the smart people who did something with their lives.
Unfortunately, something like 95% of the people who support these people would be unwilling to try if they had an idea that would be successful. Most would think it takes too much effort and just wait for their welfare check to come.

...I'm going to be honest, I didn't read this post until Sawducum brought attention to it.

I...have little positivity to add to this topic. And Sawducum pretty much said all I could have said on the matter. Shooting down an entire economic system is as effective as shooting down an entire system of government based on relative unhappiness in the inevitable vocal minority.

It is... silly, at best. Altruistic, but very much not thought out. Contrary to popular belief, good intentions do not always mean you're right. Having the perceived best morals at the moment is a terrible measure of an ideal's effectiveness in the long run.

>>17 Ok, so people walking around with photoshopped posters of our Commander in Chief made to look like Hitler or the Joker is comical, flashing a semi-automatic at a presidential speech, down right hilarious, but a college girl with a Stop sign that says "Stop Capitalism" well that's RAGE! worthy... honestly?
This protest, this movement is a direct and opposite reaction to the Tea Party movement.
And while I can't prove that there are any secret agendas between the top 1%, I can point to the obvious. These people started with a normal protest of 20.000 people on Wall St. -they received no news coverage- , a hand full decided to stay there, good for them. They weren't allowed to and are not allowed to pitch tents, or lay around in comfy beds (ever slept on a concrete bench for 2 days? try 10, every bone in your body hurts). They've been beaten, they've been maced, they've been arrested, and they are still there -no media coverage, xept for The Last Word, on MSNBC finally-. Those people aren't at a picnic.
Now to the obvious, while this was going on, a 200 some Tea Party protest happened briefly, it was all over the news and tabloids. How is that more news worthy? how is that more entertaining even? Someone blocked major news outlets to show this, they fear it, and they are trying to muffle it out, how is that freedom of speech?

21 Name: Sawducum : 2011-09-28 22:56 ID:wix59XYk [Del]

The issue lies in what they're willing to do.
It's what capitalism is based one: your situation is controllable by what you do.

Obama is not a very good president. His actions, what he's done, has proven that. It's not a matter of racism, it's a matter of his policies going against what's good for everyone who's willing to work at life.

But you will most likely never understand this as you've probably been raised to think everything should just be handed to you and have no skills because of it.

22 Name: Kon : 2011-09-28 23:26 ID:uhRx8PTk [Del]

aww, you made it personal... you mad bro?
Apparently a peaceful protest to you means useless hippies mocking about; Gandhi, Jesus and the Arab Spring, along with countless others... nothing? just because they chose to not be violent.
And no, capitalism is based on profit, it's based on greed, which is why we're in trouble economicly, there will never be enough money for a truly Capitalistic market.
Where does Obama come in all this? I was merely pointing out what some people did in comparison with what these other people did... I completely disagree with your views of the current President, but you are entitled to your views, just like I am to mine. I can't and won't try to censure you, but why is it ok for these protesters to be censored?

23 Name: Sawducum : 2011-09-29 06:33 ID:wix59XYk [Del]

I don't like Jesus either.

It also appears my last line was warranted.

Do something with your life or end it.

Obama is a terrible president. The only people who support him are other anti-capitalism / communist lazy retards who don't want to work for their life.
There isn't a shortage of money. There's a shortage of effort.

24 Name: Intimatronics !.6E4CbxK3E : 2011-09-29 07:27 ID:iHeLCdNI [Del]

First of all, "hippies" would oppose government regulation. Your argument is invalid.

There is quite a difference between the sort of capitalism Sawducum are talking about and the sort of issues that the protesters are upset about. Companies like Apple and Google worked for their money, but so did Goldman-Sachs and Lehman Brothers. The difference is that the latter two of four are (were, in the case of the latter) supposed to take care of its customers. All Apple and Google do are sell, but even Google does more for its customers and people in general than many major banks nowadays.

Just throwing that in there. This all has nothing to do with how Obama does as a president.

Main Board
Important topics, overarching Dollars issues, and actual topics of discussion belong here.

Actually, I think this falls under "Actual Topics of Discussion" more than many of the other threads. Well, it was until someone decided to pull religion and obama into it for some baffling reason.

Thread has been rather informative, I'm not one to generally watch the news in the first place - But the fact that this level of censorship is going on is kind of interesting. While I agree that most peaceful protests do generally get less coverage than the more aggressive ones - I am also of the opinion that "less coverage" doesn't really cut it for what is happening here.

That it took roughly... what was it? nine days? Just for MSNBC to actually put out a mention of it is kind of disheartening. And that's just a mention, not even a full blown coverage piece.

My personal opinion on this matter is that it's something the Dollars as a group would take interest in. Maybe not for participation purposes, but it feels like it deserves more attention and priority than its getting currently.

27 Name: Sleepology : 2011-09-29 09:01 ID:J6wuwX7v [Del]

That's why I didn't say anything about it until now. Im not 100% sure what the 99% are trying to accomplish, but Im doubtful that it involves our current president supposedly being supported by commies. Im pretty sure that the guy who wrote it doesn't actually know anything that has been/tried to be done, and is just mad cuz of how his life is and why it isn't fixing itself

28 Name: Kon : 2011-09-29 14:27 ID:uhRx8PTk [Del]

I am sorry that my words got spun to give this thread a religious or political tone, I was just bringing well known arguments to back up my claims for the conversation... I did not mean it as anything more then that.
However as Ayanavi and Sleepology mentioned, the whole point behind this thread, I would think, was to bring some light on this media censored subject.
And this attention isn't without success, because of us and others like us, they will start an investigation regarding the police brutality that they've suffered!

The movement is going downhill fast. They are starting to "define their goals", but their goals are far-fetched and poorly thought out. Violence is beginning to reveal its ugly face and the intelligent and informed participants are disassociating themselves with the movement due to increased ignorance fueled by emotion. They are being used as a vehicle for legislature to gain reason to be passed, they are being used by multiple power groups to reach agendas that do not concern or benefit the movement. Oblivious and aggressive is the future of the Occupy Wall Street movement.
