Well in the discussion of the new mission KK offered to make a map, so everyone can get an idea of how many other members are near them. It probably can help us to know how many 'dollars' are in your countries, cities, how the community is growing and actually it can helps us if we want to meet with someone who is near to you.

No theres a way to do this. I don't think this is such a bad idea, so long as it's not on the main page. People might then post topics such as "OMG IM FROM THERE TOO" anyways.

You can get one powered by google and it's maps. I've seen it before I just don't know how to get it .. :/

There's only one dollars member in tha place I live...which is me.

While not exactly a map, there is already the BBS members by country list which can be found if you click the link in the sidebar to the right.

I think it's an awesome idea. I know there's at least 1 other dollar member in the city I live, because I came here because of him, but it would be awesome to find more people living close.

Ok, well I've just done up a Google maps one. You have to have a Google account to place a marker though :\
It's free and doesn't take more than a minute, so I guess it's not too big of a deal.

Also, let me know whether you want this Publicly listed (like it is now) or Unlisted (so only people who have the link can find it). I'm pretty sure anyone can edit that, so once a decision is made someone can go ahead and change it to that.
Personally, I think it would be better off Unlisted (safety reasons, although I doubt anyone will show their actual address)

Ok, for some reason I have a hunch it was this "Kiri" person. When "Kiri" put his/her placemark down, he/she also changed the map name from "Dollars" to "Kiri".

I'll start putting the markers back based off of butwy's map.
Anyone, feel free to put your marker back where you want it.

Also, Dollars members, give me your opinion on this idea: Should I simply lock the map to editing? This way, trolls can;t get to it. However, it would make it very difficult for others to edit it. I could give others "ownership" status, but I'd need their email address (that's the only option Google has for adding collaborators. But then the thread could get cluttered up with "Unlock so I can edit it" posts...
*Sigh* I wish there was a backup system.

NEW CHOICE: Want me to simply import data from Butwy's map and then Morino, Grell, Aradjha, amylance, dragpent and kiri can put in their own locations again, and then I simply save a backup (YEAH, JUST FOUND OUT I CAN DO THAT HERP DERP) each day or something.

Ok, the map has been fixed up as best I could. However, there are still some whose marker are in the ocean/in the middle of the wilderness, etc.
I recommend everyone checks their markers to make sure they're in the right location.

Aaaanyway, I'm not sure if anyone has sad this yet, but how about just locking it and leaving it unlocked once a week for anyone who wants to update their location?

I thought about locking it and then unlocking it at a certain time, but it just wouldn't work.

People would want to add their location while it's locked, leading to "Unlock the map please" posts, and others would forget to add their location when the map finally unlocks.
Plus I would probably forget to unlock it :S
Besides, no one has mucked up the map in a while and I've got backups.

I like the idea, i think I'm the only one in my country to be a dollars member...but maybe with the help of this map i can find someone closeby anyway XD nice idea...I'm game!!:D

reltair should find a way to have dots show up by ip address, thats how the tripcodes work with ip, that would show where we were and we'd have more people than this.

Ah, the map isn't regulated or made by Reltair - It's member suggested and member maintained.

Also, in the case of static IP users, the dot would be inaccurate and changing constantly. (My IP lists me in kansas, for example, but I'm on the East Coast)

Perhaps Reltair can register for some sort of google-powered map that plants pins NEAR Dollars IP adresses (not precise for safety reasons). This requires very little coding for him, ALTHOUGH It may require payment in the form of donations. In which case Reltair may need to add some sort of PayPal donation link on the right hand side of this site (As mentioned in previous threads).

Idk if I was just imagining it, but when acessing the map on mobile, it seemed to have a good amount of pins then when I accessed it on my pc a couple days ago. Did that mean people really join recently or does mobile gmaps just not seperate the pins into pages

If you've moved you can put yourself back in place. If you don't exist, then there must have been some sort of problem and you have to add yourself again.

And make sure to check all two pages of the list. The map never has all the pins on it, it's split in half and what you can see on it depends on what page you're on. That may actually be the whole problem with why you can't find your mark.

If you look on the top right of the page you can see a button labeled by country. That has the country location of everyone who has gone there and put in their info :) I don't think it shows cities tho

This sounds like a great idea,but I hate to have to sound like a worry wort. How can we make sure that it is safe for us to give out the locations of where we live. Then again I'm probably just being paranoid but I hope you taken safety into considerations.

If your worried then dont put the marker on your front lawn. Maybe the corner of your street or a few streets down. It doesnt have to be exactly where you live, thatd be a bad idea

Just a thought... Wouldn't this prevent our colourless identities? I think that this is a good idea, only if you want people to know where you are. I, however, do not.

I think that with this map, it could show, how many other Dollars are in your area, but still keep the anonymity! In essence, it would give you a number, and general area of other Dollars members in the area, but still keep the colourless aspect of the Dollars!
We really need to get this!

I also mentioned this idea when I replied to the identification amongst the dollars thread. I will repost what I said to see if a little of my idea could help.

nstead of creating signs or words, why don't we do something with the site? I propose a locating system. Everyone fills out a location sheet when they get on the website. First you mark your location on the globe then you mark city, state, county, and put in your zip code. Once everyone has that information in, there should be a button that says 'Locate Dollars members in your area' Then a drop down list should come down and give continent, country, state, city, and county and see if there are any Dollars near you, then you can send them a message or invite to a common location and meet them there without giving any colors or flags. This is a colorless program, and yes I have considered the cons of privacy. I believe that even when you fill out your location there should be a button to hide yourself from public veiw, the only way you would show up if someone was looking in their area is the number count and there would be no marker that pins where you are. Also I would create a tips and procedures that must be read before proceeding to find the dollars members. For instance invite four or five members to a very busy location just in case one of them is not who they say they are the chances of defending yourself are increased. They do the same thing on Facebook. We can't identify ourselves by secrets and items. Furthermore, You don't even have to meet them in person, you can just get in touch with someone in your area or even some place else and say 'hey, I see that you are a dollar, I have a great Idea for the dollars to do something abut the world but I need someone else's advice and insight, you being a dollar, could you help me out?' then you could exchange Facebook contact, twitter etc. and communicate common goals and problems.

Though, the only thing flawed about that that goes against the whole concept of the Dollars, is the idea of being pinpointed. (With the ZIP code.)

Even if you don't put your address down, people still have a pretty good idea of where you are if you include your town or zipcode. I don't mind the Map idea too much, mainly because anybody could lie and put the dot somewhere else. However, having a whole section of the site dedicated to member locations just sounds like a bad idea.

I know we had a system where you included your country and username with an intro, but that got taken out.

Honestly, if you want to know who is in your own area, go to the Countries board. Your idea doesn't solve the concept of identifying other Dollars at regular places at all; it's strictly limited to pre-planned meet-ups and requires a minimal amount of Dollars' private information.

that was only an example. country state and city however should be filled out. I was only getting the point out there, people don't have to give that much information.
