Dollars! We need a better way to communicate within the group. Right now we have the board and the chatrooms. The chatrooms, however, have a limited user count and tend to lag or crash a lot. I was surprised when I asked if anyone used the IRC in the chatrooms most people didn't know how to use IRC - if they knew what it was int he first place.

In short, an IRC channel is a chatroom that can accommodate more users and supports PMing and file sharing without the cool visuals our current chatrooms have. It's pretty simple to use once you connect to a channel once, too. The boards are still good, since IRC is more for realtime conversations.

I mean,w e even have a Dollars IRC channel name announced on the right sidebar of the site. (#dollars-bbs)

I suggest anyone who wants to either be more active in the group or simply learn to familiarize with the other members to get their IRC clients started.

If you don't have one yet, you can download XChat or any other one and use that. The setup on each one is different, but it's usually pretty straightforward. If you don't want to download and/or crack an application, you can use the less reliable browser-based clients such as mibbit. (I strongly suggest using XChat.)

There are only a few things you need to know to get this started:

-The server: irc.rizon.net (Usually just "Rizon" in the applications' server lists.)
-The channel: #dollars-bbs

In XChat, you'll have to select the server, then either edit it's settings and add the channel to the favorites list OR you can just join the main Rizon server and type "/join #dollars-bbs". Then it's just about setting up your name and such. Of course, it's a little different on other clients, but it's usually approximately the same.

for those of you who don't want to download any software but want to chat on IRC, here's how:

1. go to www.mibbit.com and click "launch chat".
2. Click on the IRC drop down menu and select Rizon, It's wayyyy down there.
3. Fill in the nickname you'd like to use on IRC.
4. In the channel box, put "#dollars-bbs", without quotation marks.
5. You're in! click on the #dollars-bbs tab that appears near the top of the page, and start chatting.

It's funny because when me and the admin first used the IRC, only two of us inhabited the place for a straight two months.
Thinking back, it was a horrible idea since we already have the chat and all.
And to reinforce that point, most of this site's traffic are 15 year olds, and is probably new to using something developed a decade ago and not nearly as efficient as MSN and various other IM clients.
That being said, I think we should have a MSN chat group.

I'm going to agree with Antaro. MSN is pretty sketchy, software wise, for our purposes. IRC is just perfect for large groups.

I know that alot of people on this site don't know what IRC is, but it's pretty easy and i'm sure everyone could figure it out.

I just downloaded XChat last night with hopes that I can communicate with some here, only to find it empty lol.

IRC would be an excellent way to communicate and I urge everyone to make it a regular form of communication for us.

I got XChat recently and plan to go as often as possible. I can't be perpetually connected, though, since my computer has a tendency of dying when left on too long... But I'll be sure to be on when I can.

Bumping this since I think it'll be better if more people go on the IRC chat. It's pretty good since there's PMing, but right now not many people go on at all... So although its not as visually appealing as the bbs chatrooms, its much more reliable.

This thread was made so that our members could communicate a lot easier. Nao we have the skype, emailing, texting, chatroom, and the boards to add to our communication. I'm not sure how much we'll need the IRC stuff, but I would like it a lot better if you directed some of the RPers and 'trollz' over to the IRC and we can stay where we belong.

For some reason, I can not use the IRC system for more than a few minutes before it bumps me off and says "An error occured: Invalid session, this most likely means the server has restarted; clse this dialog and then try refreshing the page." When I do, it often has the same problem again. Has anyone else had this problem, or my computer just weird?

Ah, nope. That's not just you, happens all the time to most members. qchat is notoriously horrible. Try mibbit or Kiwi IRC instead. They're both web based and about 10 times superior to qchat.

Also, the link of the side does it automatically, so when you use mibbit or Kiwi make sure you enter the server as irc.rizon.net and the room name as #dollars-bbs so you connect to the right room.
