I remember reading this a long time ago and I really just sucked up everything Osamu Dazai had to say about society and his role as being the joker and his whole life being a dilemma of that one role and how he could either be seen out of it. It's a great read for sure

You should give his other books a try, too. I recommend The Setting Sun and his short stories.
