Trying to remember a book I read (1)

So, I have been trying to remember the title of the book that I read a long time ago and so far I've tried several websites and forums. It was a book that I borrowed from a library and I remember knowing exactly which shelf it was on because I borrowed it a couple of times.

From what I can remember, the book was a YA book because it was shelved with the Wrinkle in Time books. It was written in a strange point of view, I think it might have been 2nd POV. It was about a boy that lived with his mom and could speak to paintings somehow. I remember that he looked at a painting of a field and the figures in the painting would talk to him, including ones that were painted over. I believe his father was an art forger and that if the boy looked a a painting his father did, he could look at whatever was on the other side of another forgery. One thing that sticks out is that he ask his mom about why their maid (or nanny) ate food the wrong way. His mom said it was because she was from America. I have tried to google it and the library's website is currently down, so I can't search for it right now.

I know it's a long shot but I figured someone on this website could figure out how to find it.
